Chapter 259 Who is in the Photo?
Daniel directly told Willow his bold guess: [Willow, do you think the person in the photo in my brother's wallet could be you?]
Willow replied to Mitchell's message, saying, "Thanks, Mitchell, I'm much better now." It was a straightforward response, just like before. Mitchell had been waiting with his phone in hand, and when he received Willow's reply, she was still polite to him. Sometimes, he felt close to Willow, and other times, he felt distant, just like now. She seemed to only see him as a brother, just like she did with Daniel. In order to feel closer to her, he could only show concern for her as a brother. Over the years, he had outwardly embraced this role of being a brother, but internally, he suppressed himself time and time again.
Receiving Mitchell's message, Willow felt no ripple in her heart. Over the years, she had become accustomed to his brotherly concern. She quickly replied to his message and then opened the one from Daniel. However, she immediately sprayed the sip of hot water she had just taken all over, causing it to go up her nose. This resulted in a violent coughing fit, bringing tears to Willow's eyes.
Although she had hoped for it, today, she was certain it wasn't her. In the morning, she saw a post on Laura's Moments, where she shared a photo of herself wearing the high school uniform with the caption, "That boy who secretly took a photo of me, now I'm giving the photo to you." She had considered it a coincidence, but it was too obvious. She had seen them in the office early yesterday, and Laura posted that photo today. Moreover, if she hadn't personally seen the photo in Mitchell's wallet, how could she have known it was secretly taken? And why would Laura conveniently share her high school photo?
Willow felt a heavy feeling in her chest and replied, "It's Laura."
Daniel jumped up from the couch, unable to wait to write a Facebook post. Instead, he dialed Willow's number directly. When she answered, she heard Daniel's voice filled with disbelief, "Willow, who is this Laura? What's going on? How do you know it's her?"
Willow briefly told Daniel about Laura's post on Moments. "Didn't you see her post?" Willow curiously asked. Due to their work project, they had connected on Facebook.
Daniel sat down on the sofa, lowering his voice. Just now, she was too excited and didn't know if her brother heard it or not. She spoke a bit more softly, "I didn't even add her on Facebook. Quickly take a screenshot for me to see." Last time, when Laura wanted to add her, she did not have her phone in her hand and said she would add her next time. Because she didn't want to add her in the first place, she didn't take it seriously or think much about it. So, she and Laura still hadn't connected on Facebook. Daniel still couldn't believe that the person in her brother's wallet would be Laura. He urged Willow to quickly take a screenshot and send it to her so she could analyze it thoroughly.
Willow didn't hang up the phone. After putting it on speakerphone, she opened Facebook and found Laura's profile picture. The last post was made this morning, and she had also shared a news article, so it had already moved to the second post. Willow took a screenshot and sent it to Daniel.
Daniel opened the picture and looked at it carefully. Based on Laura's current relationship with his brother and knowing that there was a photo of a girl in his brother's wallet, it was indeed difficult not to think this way. And if Laura hadn't seen the picture in his brother's wallet, it wouldn't be a coincidence for her to post a high school photo and write that caption. Could it be that the girl his brother had been so obsessed with in high school was really Laura?
"But it's impossible. Laura went abroad a long time ago, and she didn't attend high school in Horizon City anyway," Daniel muttered to himself. Then he put the phone back to his ear and continued, "Willow, I still can't believe that the person in my brother's wallet is Laura. Laura studied abroad in high school. Did my brother follow her to another country to secretly take photos?"
"When Mitchell had just graduated, there was a period when he frequently traveled abroad," Willow thought of the time when Mitchell used to go on business trips almost every week, and they were all to foreign countries.
"But that doesn't prove he went to find Laura. Those trips were all for work purposes," Daniel stubbornly refuted. He couldn't accept the fact that Laura, the one his brother had a secret crush on, was the same person.
"Daniel, even if you don't like Laura, there are many facts right in front of you that you can't change." Willow remained calm, perhaps feeling the deepest torment in her heart.
"I really don't have any bias against her. Okay, maybe I do have a slight bias, but I am being rational and analyzing it calmly. Do you think Laura is the type of person my brother likes?" Daniel asked.
Willow fell silent for a moment, then finally said, "I don't know." She didn't know what kind of girl Mitchell liked but knew it wasn't her type. She hadn't seen him with any other girls over the years, and he hadn't been in a relationship before Laura, so it must be her.
Daniel also felt that discussing this topic with Willow was inappropriate. She was determined to look through her brother's wallet and face the truth to find out who it really was.
"Never mind, you're sick. Rest and have breakfast. I'll come over tomorrow after work to check on you." Daniel quickly ended the conversation.
"If you're busy, don't bother running back and forth. It's just a little cold. I took medicine and slept all day today, so I'm feeling much better." Willow knew that Daniel didn't even have time to sleep when he was busy, and she didn't want her to exert herself running around.
"Okay, I understand. Get some rest, then. Goodnight." Daniel made up his mind to visit her tomorrow and bring her some food.
Daniel hung up the phone, turned off the TV, and walked to Mitchell's room. He knocked on the door, and Mitchell's deep voice came from inside, "Come in."
Daniel stuck her head in and entered the room. She saw Mitchell sitting at the desk, seemingly busy with work.
"Bro, are you still not sleeping?" she asked with a smile, and then her eyes wandered around as if searching for something.
Mitchell paused his work and stared at Daniel, "Do you need something from me?"
Daniel looked around but didn't see what she was looking for. She looked back at her brother, who had already finished showering and changed into pajamas. His wallet was probably in his pants pocket, and the pants were probably hung up, so she had no chance today. She couldn't just rush over and open the closet door in front of her brother to search. She didn't dare.
"Okay, never mind; I just saw your light on and wanted to see if you were resting. I'll go back to my room now, and you can continue with your work." Daniel felt her brother's piercing gaze, and she quickly opened the door and slipped back into her own room.
Back in her room, she had been thinking hard about how to get her brother's wallet.
