Chapter 504 Baby, I'm Your Daddy
Madison saw how nervous Matthew, notdaring to pick up the baby. She smiled and said, "Honey, don't worry. Babies aren't that fragile. Just support his butt with one hand and his neck and head with the other."
With Madison's help, Matthew finally picked up Joy. He was stiff, but the baby seemed comfortable, eyes closed.
Matthew carefully placed Joy in the crib and sighed in relief. Looking at the sleeping baby, he softly said, "I'm your dad."
He didn't even realize how gentle his expression was.
Who wouldn't love such a cute baby?
Matthew tucked Joy in, moved the crib next to Madison's bed, and sat on a small chair to keep watch.
"Honey, you sleep. I'll take care of Joy," Matthew told Madison.
The nurse had mentioned that newborns need to be fed at night, so Matthew wanted Madison to rest.
Madison was exhausted from labor and quickly fell asleep.
Matthew adjusted her blanket and checked on Joy.
Joy was so small. Matthew hadn't expected a newborn to be so tiny and soft. He mimicked what Quentin and Hannah had done earlier and touched Joy's little hand.
Joy sensed his dad and slowly opened his eyes, grabbing Matthew's finger before falling asleep again.
Matthew felt the strength of Joy's little hand, a magical connection of blood and kinship, warming his heart.
It was a wonderful feeling.
Matthew stood by the crib until Joy let go of his finger, then sat back in the chair.
The night was quiet, and his heart was at peace. With his wife and newborn baby by his side, what could be better? His parents in heaven would be happy to see him so content.
Madison was discharged on the fifth day after giving birth, as all her indicators were normal. They completed the discharge procedures and went home.
Though the private hospital was nice, home was more comfortable. It was also easier for William to take care of Quentin and Hannah at home.
Madison recovered well after giving birth, even healing the injuries from having Quentin and Hannah.
Matthew hadn't gone to the office for a month, handling urgent matters online. They hired an experienced postpartum nurse who cooked nutritious meals, which Madison almost always finished. The previous nurse mainly took care of the baby, while the new one focused on Madison's meals, and Valerie continued to cook for everyone else.
Madison had plenty of milk after giving birth and usually breastfed Joy herself. Even though it was tiring, she didn't want to stop.
Matthew slept beside her, always ready to help at night by bringing Joy from the crib and putting him back after feeding.
Seeing how hard he worked, Madison sometimes wanted to pick up Joy herself. But every time she moved, Matthew would wake up and stop her.
"Honey, just call me if you need to feed him. Don't pick him up yourself. The nurse said you're still recovering, and your arms will get sore. Be good and wait a bit before you start holding him again, okay?" he coaxed.
Madison understood and nodded. "Okay."
After a pause, she added, "I just see how hard you're working."
"I'm not working that hard; don't worry. You went through pregnancy and childbirth; that's the tough part. What I'm doing is nothing," Matthew said as he skillfully placed Joy on the bed.
With all the practice over the past few days, he had become very good at holding the baby.
A month after giving birth, Madison had recovered well and was finally allowed to go out.
Joy, who wasn't wrinkled like other newborns, was already very good-looking. After a month of impressive eating, he had gained weight, and his features had become even more defined and attractive.
Patrick and the others often came to see him, especially Patrick, who visited three or four times a week. If he weren't so busy with work, he might come every day.
He didn't neglect Quentin and Hannah just because Joy was born. Every time he came, he would bring small toys or snacks for them.
Quentin and Hannah now eagerly awaited his visits, calling him every evening before dinner.
"Uncle Patrick, are you coming to see Joy today? Valerie made a lot of delicious food." Usually, Hannah made the call under her brother's instructions, her sweet voice melting Patrick's heart.
"I'll come after work. What snacks do you want today?" Patrick hadn't planned to visit, as he was working late, but he couldn't resist Hannah's invitation and decided to go.
"Uncle Patrick, you don't need to bring anything, just come." Hannah's sweet talk made Patrick very happy.
"Really? Then I'll come straight over after work," Patrick said, laughing.
"Or maybe bring some of those snacks from last time," Hannah quickly added, worried he wouldn't have time to buy them.
"Okay, I'll bring snacks for you. I'll come over after I finish work, so don't wait for me for dinner." Patrick laughed. He truly doted on Quentin and Hannah, always fulfilling their requests.
Hannah hung up, smiling at Quentin, then realized. "Oh no, Quentin, I forgot to ask Uncle Patrick to bring the new Lego car for you."
She was only thinking about food.
"It's okay, Hannah. Snacks are delicious," Quentin said with a smile, clearly doting on his sister.
