Chapter 414 Mitchell Helped with the Thesis
Patrick walked to the backyard and saw Quentin teaching Hannah how to skateboard. Mitchell stood nearby, holding Willow's hand, watching the two of them.
He didn't expect that Hannah would bravely start skateboarding in just one night. Quentin was truly an excellent brother. The two little ones saw Patrick coming and ran towards him. Hannah couldn't wait to show Patrick what she had learned.
"Patrick, I can skateboard by myself now," Hannah said.
"Hannah, that's amazing," Patrick praised without hesitation, holding Quentin and Hannah's hands as they walked over.
"Quentin started teaching me early this morning," Hannah said with a smile.
Patrick patted Quentin's head and praised him, "Quentin, you're the best brother ever."
Patrick walked over to greet Mitchell and Willow, then started playing with Quentin and Hannah again.
Watching them have so much fun, Willow remembered a girl in her college dorm who loved skateboarding. She joined the skateboarding club and always carried a skateboard around. Willow thought it was super cool back then.
Willow didn't participate in many activities during college. Danielle was in the film association and pulled Willow into it as well. Most of the students there were into the arts or acting, and many were already doing commercials, so everyone was quite busy. The club rarely held events, and Willow almost forgot she was even a member.
She also joined a painting club, which was more of a hobby for her, so she attended every event. The architecture courses were quite demanding, especially the specialized ones, and the professors had high expectations. Willow devoted most of her energy to her studies.
In her spare time, she sometimes went shopping, out to eat with Danielle or hung out with her roommates. The rest of her free time was spent at Mitchell's company.
The JK Group building was completed during Willow's senior year. By then, the company had grown significantly, and the rented office space was no longer sufficient. When Matthew made his first big profit, he invested it all in buying land to build the office building. Matthew designed the JK Group logo, and Mitchell designed the building's architectural design. Now, the JK Group building has become a landmark in Horizon City.
Mitchell's office moved from a small rented space to the 16th floor of the JK Group building, where it was now.
Starting in her senior year, Willow visited Mitchell much more frequently. For her internship course, she worked directly with the project team. There were no special treatments; she mainly helped with meeting preparations and attended meetings as an observer. She also greeted guests—basically, she did everything. She never complained and worked enthusiastically.
For lunch, she either ordered takeout with everyone or went back to school to eat if she had afternoon classes. She didn't notice that after she started interning with the project team, a refrigerator appeared in Mitchell's office, always stocked with fresh milk. Every day, she would sneak up to find Mitchell, and he would hand her a bottle of fresh milk.
While interning and working on her thesis, Willow was busy but happy. One afternoon, with no classes, she stayed at the company working on her thesis, losing track of time until it was dark. Despite spending the whole afternoon on it, she still wasn't satisfied. Her advisor had already rejected it twice, and she was at her wit's end.
Mitchell had a habit of checking the fifteenth floor after work. Sometimes, he knew she had gone back to school, but he still wanted to take a look, even if it was just at her small workstation. So when the elevator reached the fifteenth floor, and he stepped out, he was surprised to see Willow still sitting at her computer, frowning as if she was facing a major problem. He paused for a moment.
This was the first time he had seen Willow working late.
Mitchell walked towards her. Willow was so focused on her thesis that she didn't notice anyone approaching.
When Mitchell lightly knocked on the table next to her, she jumped up in surprise. "Mitchell."
He nodded. "It's so late. Why haven't you gone back to school?"
Willow belatedly looked at her watch and realized it was almost 8 PM. She widened her eyes and sheepishly said, "I lost track of time working on my thesis." Then she lowered her head in embarrassment.
Mitchell smiled warmly and asked, "Is it done?"
"Not yet," Willow said, feeling even more embarrassed and lowering her head further.
Mitchell walked past her to the computer and bent down, saying, "Let me take a look."
Willow quickly stepped aside to give him space and softly said, "I don't know what's wrong. The tutor just won't approve it."
Mitchell took the mouse and clicked a few times, reviewing her design. He thought it was not a big deal, then stood up, his face full of gentle affection, and said to Willow, "Let's go have dinner first, then come back and revise it."
Willow hesitated for a moment and then said, "Mitchell, you go ahead. I'll finish my revisions and send them to my tutor first."
Although she really wanted to have dinner alone with Mitchell, she couldn't justify it if her thesis wasn't approved.
Mitchell smiled at her, making Willow feel a bit awkward. She glanced around, avoiding his gaze.
Mitchell said softly, "Are you sure you can revise it on your own and get it approved?"
"Not sure," Willow replied, looking up at Mitchell with a blank expression.
"So let's go. Have dinner with me first. You won't have the energy to revise without eating." Mitchell took Willow's hand and led her out.
Willow stared at her wrist, feeling the warmth from his hand, her heart racing. Her mind went blank and she followed Mitchell into the elevator.
It wasn't until they stepped out of the building that she realized and stopped, saying foolishly, "But even after dinner, I might not be able to get my tutor's approval."
She thought, 'Would a dinner magically solve everything?'
Mitchell continued to lead her forward, chuckling. "Silly girl."
