Chapter 437 Thinking About a Birthday Surprise

Mitchell finished his shower and pushed the door open.

Willow was no longer playing with her phone; instead, she was resting her chin in her hands, frowning slightly as if she were pondering something important.

Mitchell, dressed in a bathrobe and drying his hair, walked over to her, but she remained in a daze.

"Willow?" he called softly, but she didn't respond.

"Willow?" he raised his voice a bit.

Willow seemed startled, snapping out of her thoughts.

Seeing Mitchell standing in front of her, she stammered, "Mitchell, when... when did you... come in?"

She hadn't heard a sound, even though he had already finished his shower.

Mitchell smiled and said, "I came in while you were on your phone. Is something wrong? You seemed lost in thought."

"No... nothing. I was just thinking about work tomorrow and got a bit carried away," Willow quickly replied as she made up an excuse.

She couldn't let him know she was actually planning a birthday surprise for him.

Mitchell didn't suspect anything and said, "Tomorrow might be busy, so don't overwork yourself."

"Okay," Willow agreed while she nodded and smiled.

Mitchell went back to the bathroom to blow-dry his hair.

When he came out, Willow was still awake. He walked to the other side of the bed and said affectionately, "Better sleep early, or you'll have trouble getting up tomorrow."

Willow responded softly and lay down.

Mitchell reached out and turned off the light. The room plunged into darkness, and Willow lay there, eyes open, still thinking about the birthday surprise.

The next day at work, she brought a bag of candies and snacks from Maple City to share with her colleagues.

Elizabeth teased her with a smile, "Willow, is this an early announcement of you engagement with Mr. Jonah? Are you giving us wedding candies in advance?"

"No, it's just some treats I brought back from my trip. What are you thinking?" Willow explained bashfully, still feeling a bit shy about mentioning Mitchell at work.

Elizabeth, seeing her reaction, assumed something good had happened and said, "I get it."

Willow was about to say something more but their conversation got interrupted when someone came in to see her.

After nearly two weeks of taking the time off from work, she had a lot to catch up on. Projects her colleagues had helped with while she was away needed to be handed back to her, and she had to organize the progress of other tasks.

The time flew by, and before she knew it, it was past noon. When Mitchell called to invite her to lunch, she looked up and realized that it was already past twelve.

She quickly closed her laptop and dashed up the stairs.

Since it was late, her colleagues on the sixteenth floor had probably already left for lunch, so she didn't run into anyone on her way to Mitchell's office.

When she pushed the door open, he had just finished setting out the food. He had also been busy that morning, and when he looked at the time, he realized it was past twelve and Willow hadn't come up. He called her and then started setting out the food, thinking he might need to reheat it, but luckily it stayed warm in the insulated bag.

Willow walked over and sweetly called out to him, "Mitchell."

Mitchell turned and smiled at her, asking, "How did you forget about lunch today? Were you very busy?"

"Yeah, a little bit," Willow said as she sat down on the couch.

She didn't want to say she was very busy since Mitchell was much busier than her.

The couch and table in his reception area became their temporary lunch table.

Mitchell set the table for her, and Willow served them both a bowl of soup. They smiled at each other, passing utensils and soup back and forth like a little exchange ceremony, creating a sweet and harmonious atmosphere. She even felt that his motivation to come to work was their daily routine of having lunch together in the office.

While eating, Willow was still thinking about Mitchell's birthday surprise. She had thought about it for a long time last night but couldn't come up with any ideas. She didn't want to give the usual gifts.

If everything went as planned, everyone would celebrate his birthday at the bar, just like every year. She had a bit of a selfish wish to celebrate a day early, just the two of them.

So, during lunch, she seemed a bit distracted.

Mitchell thought she was tired from work and said, "Don't overwork yourself. If you can't finish, I'll help you tonight."

Willow snapped back to reality and realized Mitchell thought she was overwhelmed with work. She quickly explained, "It's not too much. I can handle it."

Mitchell offering to help meant she would be offloading her work onto him, which seemed like a waste of his talents.

"Alright, then let's just enjoy our meal," Mitchell said gently.

Willow nodded in agreement and started eating seriously, still pondering his birthday.

In the afternoon, Willow returned to her desk and worked diligently.

At the end of the day, she messaged Mitchell on Facebook, saying she planned to stay an extra hour to finish up. So, they both stayed an extra hour in the office.

After work, they didn't go home immediately but walked to the nearby mall for dinner. A new Mexican restaurant had opened, which Elizabeth had recommended earlier, saying she had already tried it and it was quite good. Willow eagerly dragged Mitchell along.

There were similar Mexican restaurants in Seaspring Valley City, and every time Willow visited her parents, she had to have a meal there. This place was indeed good, very authentic, and the decor reminded her of the ones in Seaspring Valley City.

Walking in, she almost felt like she was back there. She excitedly pulled Mitchell to a table. Considering he couldn't handle spicy food, she ordered everything that was mild.

Seeing her so happy, his mood lifted as well.

Since the food was mild, Mitchell ate quite a bit. They finished almost everything that Willow had ordered.

Feeling stuffed, they took a leisurely walk back to the office to get their car.

On the way, they saw a little girl playing with fireworks, which reminded Willow of the joyful times during New Year's when she and her friends would buy lots of fireworks with their pocket money, staying up until midnight to light them and watch them explode in the sky.

Suddenly, an idea struck her.

Fireworks seemed like a great idea.
