Chapter 244 Returning to Horizon City.
Everyone had a simple breakfast and set off for Horizon City. They returned to the original car because Nicholas had left early, so Rachel took Madison's car. Hank's car had empty seats, but Madison decided not to meddle in their relationship anymore. She really didn't expect Rachel to be involved with Nicholas...
That night, Madison forgot to ask about Rachel and Nicholas due to other things, so the first thing she did after waking up the following day was to chase after Matthew and ask what was going on. Matthew said he was guessing and felt that Nicholas cared too much about Rachel, the kind of care a man has for a woman, so he thought something was going on between them.
Rachel clearly rejected being an "aunt" to their child, so Matthew warned Madison not to be irrational. If her brother-in-law really had feelings for Rachel, it would be heartbreaking. Matthew's analysis made Madison realize something. She carefully recalled some information, such as when she found her parents with Nicholas's help. He said Rachel had told him. It seemed they had frequent contact...
Then, the night Nicholas left, Madison received a message on Facebook from him, saying he was pursuing Rachel. She also saw Nicholas go back to his room to pack his things, and Rachel followed him upstairs. So, she was certain that these two were not just pursuing each other, as Nicholas claimed. They were clearly interested in each other.
That night, she couldn't wait to share the news with Matthew, thanking goodness she hadn't told their parents and her brother first. Otherwise, it would have been a big misunderstanding. Matthew hugged her and said, "So, don't worry about Hank's situation anymore. Let him handle it himself. He needs to find a wife without my help."
Madison was close to giving up, and her enthusiasm for finding a partner for her brother also diminished. She should let things happen naturally. But she couldn't understand why Rachel didn't tell her about her relationship with Nicholas. She felt a bit down at the time, and Matthew said Rachel was probably too embarrassed to talk to her about it.
Madison was puzzled. What's there to be embarrassed about? She would be twice as happy if these two were really together. She saw Nicholas as her brother and Rachel as her sister. If they were really a couple, she would be overjoyed. Finally, Matthew reminded her to find a suitable time to talk to Rachel, and Madison agreed that she should take the initiative to speak to Rachel. After all, Rachel had been her best friend through her most difficult times.
On the way back to Horizon City, the weather wasn't very good, and it suddenly started raining as if it didn't want them to leave. Madison felt grateful that they had been so lucky. The weather had been great the past couple of days, and everyone had a great time and relaxed. Madison sent Nicholas a message on Facebook, thanking him for his hospitality.
After all, they had enjoyed free food, drinks, and entertainment for many days. Initially, Madison felt hesitant, but Nicholas said that he would appreciate any useful advice during the trial operation phase. Madison didn't want to insist on paying, so she mentioned to Matthew that Nicholas's resort could be considered a candidate for JK Group's employee welfare and team-building activities. Matthew readily agreed.
After dropping off Rachel at her apartment, Matthew turned around and headed back to the villa. Although Quentin Garcia and Hannah Garcia had invited her to play at the villa, Rachel politely declined. She thought it would be inappropriate because their uncle and grandparents were also there.
Moreover, whenever she saw their uncle, she couldn't help but think of Madison's attempts to matchmake them, which made her feel awkward. She promised the two kids that she would drop them off at the airport when they went to Rivertown Bay, so they only let her out of the car then.
Patrick's place was en route to Willow's, so he dropped Victor off at his hotel first before continuing to Willow's apartment. During the drive, Patrick turned to Victor and asked, "Have you ever thought about getting a place in Horizon City and maybe a car? It'd make getting around a lot easier for you."
Victor, who had been resting with his eyes closed in the back seat, opened them at Patrick's suggestion. "I've got a business trip tomorrow. Aren't you still on call?" His tone implied that buying a house and car was unnecessary. "If I come back to Horizon City, I'd still need you to drive me around."
Patrick had hoped to convince Victor to at least purchase a car, which would free Patrick from his unofficial role as Victor's chauffeur. However, considering Victor's substantial income and the year-end bonus he was likely to receive, Patrick held his tongue. After all, Victor only stayed in Horizon City for brief periods, and it seemed a kinder fate to serve as his occasional driver than to endure the grueling business trips to the Middle East that Victor often took. With that thought, Patrick couldn't help but feel a touch of sympathy for Victor.
Once Victor had exited the vehicle, it took just over ten minutes to reach the base of Willow's apartment complex. Patrick quickly helped her retrieve her suitcase from the trunk, eager to relay his message, "Willow, Patrick has left. He's got plans to game tonight, so you'll be heading up on your own."
The security at the apartment where Willow lived was well done so that strangers couldn't enter. Also, it was daytime, so Patrick left her at the front gate without any worries.
Willow looked at Patrick's hurried appearance and couldn't help but smile. "Okay, Patrick, you can go. I'll go upstairs on my own."
Patrick stylishly opened the door of the SUV and hopped in. "Bye. I'll take you out for dinner another day, " he said. Then he pressed down on the accelerator pedal, and the car quickly drove away.
Willow pushed the suitcase and slowly walked toward the front gate. Just as she arrived at the apartment gate, she saw a familiar figure squatting next to the security booth. He looked like a pitiful homeless child, exceptionally pitiful.
Willow took a closer look and realized it was Declan!
She pushed the suitcase over and stopped in front of Declan, looking at his head. Declan felt a shadow cast over him and slowly raised his head. When he saw Willow, a childlike and innocent smile appeared on his face. "You're back?" Willow didn't know why he was there and asked in a murmuring voice, "What are you doing here?"
"I was waiting for you," Declan answered naturally.
"Why were you waiting for me?" Willow asked in confusion before Declan could speak.
Before Declan could answer, Willow's phone rang. She took it out of her bag. Huh, why was her mom calling her at this time?
"Hello, Mom, why are you calling me now?" Willow answered obediently. Lucy, her mother, smiled on the other end of the phone and said, "Willow, do you remember when you used to spend summers at your grandma's house when you were little? Grandma W, who lived next door to Grandma, had a grandson who always liked to play with you."
