Chapter 236 Only Wanting to Deceive Others, Never Considering Deceiving Oneself

Mitchell saw Ella waiting at the doorway and furrowed his brows slightly before asking, "Is there something, Ella?"

In fact, Ella had been standing by the doorway while Mitchell was wiping Willow's face with the towel. She watched this man, who usually acted dominant in the mall, carefully taking care of the girl lying on the bed, oblivious to her drunken state. A feeling called jealousy grew wildly in her heart. She had to admit that she had truly fallen for this man in front of her. The more jealous she feels toward the girl lying on the bed, the more she envies her because she possesses all the indulgence from Mitchell. Ella had been leaning against the wall, accompanying him at the doorway for as long as Mitchell had been inside. She never expected that she would one day be so lowly for a man. "Is Willow okay?"

Speaking of Willow, Mitchell's face softened. "Hmm, she's asleep. Every time Willow gets drunk, she just falls asleep without making any noise or fuss." Ella heard the indulgence in his tone and felt a pang in her heart. In fact, liking someone could be felt through their language, gestures, and even body movements.

"It's all good," Ella said timidly, then looked up and noticed the bruise on Mitchell's lip. "You...is your lip okay?" With her steady gaze, Ella examined Mitchell's slightly swollen and bruised lip, with traces of broken teeth on it.

Mitchell didn't mind and replied, "It's nothing." Then he asked, "Did they finish?"

"Not yet, they started grilling again," Ella forced a smile.

Mitchell walked past her and said, "Let's go down too." Ella lowered her head and followed behind him but suddenly stopped when she saw his figure ahead. "Mitchell," she said.

Mitchell also stopped, turned around, and looked puzzled. "What's wrong, Ella?"

Ella approached slowly and finally stopped in front of Mitchell. She stared into his eyes, remained silent for a moment, and then took a deep breath before asking, "Mitchell, do you like her?"

Mitchell was taken aback, pursed his lips, and didn't answer. Ella smiled bitterly and continued, "Mitchell, you like Willow. You can deceive others, but not yourself." This time, Ella used an affirmative tone.

Mitchell chuckled self-deprecatingly, "Willow has someone she likes too." Before Ella could grasp the meaning of Mitchell's words, she heard him say again, "I've only ever wanted to deceive others, never myself."

Ella stood frozen in place. She thought Mitchell might stay silent, deny it directly, or come up with an excuse, such as treating Willow as a sister, which was why he treated her with so much care and affection. She didn't expect him to admit it in such a humble tone. How much love must he have to protect her so discreetly? He takes care of her like a sister in front of others while allowing his feelings to grow freely when he is alone. So, was this the reason he never pursued a girlfriend? Because no one could replace that person.

Should she be grateful and consider herself lucky? After all, he was willing to act in this play with her. He said that Willow likes someone else already, so that person couldn't be him, right? Ella found herself needing clarification. As a girl's intuition, Willow must have some interest in Mitchell. She believed she wasn't the only one who thought so. Therefore, Mitchell thought that Willow liked someone else, and that's why he didn't dare to confess!

"Mitchell, you said Willow likes someone already. Who is it?" Ella asked cautiously.

Mitchell's face darkened, and he answered heavily, "Not quite sure, it's her classmate."
Ella couldn't help feeling conflicted. She couldn't explain clearly, but she knew that her classmate and the man she liked both liked each other, yet neither of them was aware of the other's feelings.

"Mitchell, how do you know they're classmates? Have you considered the possibility that it could be Willow..." Ella began to say.

"Possible what?" Mitchell asked, furrowing his brow.

"Never mind, let's go downstairs and get something to eat," Ella ultimately chose not to say anything. Why should she tell him that Willow might like him? If she did, the truth would be revealed, and she wouldn't have a chance anymore. Humph, it's fair competition. She didn't plan on giving up. If one day he finally realized it himself, then she would admit defeat and voluntarily back off. But for now, she didn't plan on giving up.

Ella ran downstairs cheerfully, with Mitchell following behind her. He didn't understand why her mood could change so quickly, as if she had become a different person. He shook his head, finding girls really hard to understand.

In the yard downstairs, everyone grilled the remaining ingredients. Daniel saw Mitchell coming down and approached him, holding a skewer of grilled pork belly, and asked with concern, "Bro, is Willow okay?"

"She's fine, she fell asleep. When you go back to sleep later, check if she kicked off her blanket and cover her up," Mitchell took the grilled pork belly from Daniel's hands. Daniel nodded understandingly, "Don't worry, I'll take good care of her. I've taken care of her when she drank too much before. I'm quite experienced." After saying that, Daniel saw Matthew's sad face and quickly explained, "Not many times, just once or twice, maybe three times."

Mitchell glared at her and took away the chicken wings in her hands, saying, "Don't take Willow out for drinks anymore."

Daniel quickly nodded and promised, "I won't; I won't take her out with us when we have drinking sessions." Mitchell didn't say anything more; he just ate his chicken wings. Daniel knew that Willow probably wouldn't listen to her, either. With a bitter smile, Mitchell wondered how long she could control her. That stubborn girl was perhaps waiting for the return of that classmate who went abroad to study.

The group of people ate and drank until 1 am before dispersing. The alcohol was finished, the lamb meat was consumed, and only a few remaining pieces of beef and vegetarian dishes were left, not in large quantities. Madison didn't expect them to eat so much. In the afternoon, she saw a whole lamb and thought there would definitely be leftovers. But to her surprise, everyone ate and chatted and played, and everything was cleaned up. They drank mostly beer, fruit, wine, and some cocktails, not in large quantities. Except for Willow and Hank, no one got drunk. Matthew and Nicholas helped Hank back to his room, and the rest of the group went back to their rooms to rest.
Matthew and Madison lay back on the bed, having just finished taking a shower. It was already almost two o'clock, and Madison, who had been drinking, seemed excited. She grabbed Matthew to chat, "Matthew, do you think my brother and Rachel have no chance?"
