Chapter 220 Matthew Comes with Air Conditioning
Madison was very happy to receive Nicholas' phone call. They hadn't seen or talked to each other for a while, and with so much going on recently, she didn't want to say the unhappy things but instead wanted to share the happy moments with everyone.
A deep voice came from the other end of the phone. "Madison."
"Nicholas, are you in Horizon City?" Madison asked eagerly.
"Yes, most of Pinecrest City's business has been transferred here, so I'll be staying in Horizon City from now on," Nicholas said. Last month, they finally relocated the entire company to Horizon City.
"That's great! We can see each other often now," Madison said happily. For her, Nicholas was like Dorian, a brother with blood ties and another brother without blood ties.
"Aren't you worried about Matthew getting jealous? Maybe he's just concerned," Nicholas jokingly said. Being able to speak openly and make jokes meant nothing to worry about.
Madison felt a bit embarrassed. After all, Matthew did do some childish things in the past. "Matthew won't be like that now," Madison explained.
"I was just joking." Nicholas chuckled softly. "If you have time, bring Matthew and the two children to play together." Nicholas extended an invitation.
"Really? Congratulations," Madison sincerely congratulated Nicholas. His effort to get to where he is today cannot be summed up in just a few words. Additionally, he showed great courage by relocating the company from Pinecrest City to Horizon City for the town's development, which is also worth praising.
"Matthew is still more impressive. He has always been my inspiration," Nicholas spoke truthfully. Matthew's legend in the business world remains unbroken, and many entrepreneurs idolize him. This is also one of the reasons why JK Group receives numerous job applications every year.
"You're all highly talented." Madison blushed and felt slightly embarrassed, praising Matthew in front of others.
"I heard Rachel say that you found your biological parents?" Nicholas asked with concern.
As soon as Madison heard Nicholas mention her parents, she couldn't contain her excitement and immediately shared her story of being reunited with them. She completely overlooked the familiarity in Nicholas' address to Rachel and their connection.
Upon hearing Madison refer to him as "Nicholas," Rachel was so startled that she dropped her pen. She couldn't believe that he was already calling Madison after they had just parted ways in the morning. Rachel strongly suspected that he did it on purpose. She waved her hand at Madison, still on the phone, and walked out. As soon as she returned to her office, she couldn't wait to send a message to someone on Facebook.
Rachel: [Did you do it on purpose? Did you tell Madison that I told you about her finding her biological parents?]
Nicholas: [No, I didn't.] The response came back instantly.
Rachel expected him to reply slowly. Wasn't he still on the phone with Madison?
Rachel: [Aren't you on the phone with Madison?] Puzzled, she asked.
Nicholas: [Aren’t you next to Madison?]
Rachel stared at this message, thinking about how Madison had received a phone call and they were talking happily. Suddenly, she felt a sense of gloom in her heart. Although she knew that Madison was absolutely faithful to Matthew and only saw Nicholas as a brother figure, Nicholas had previously harbored feelings for Madison, and even she could see it. She was sure about Madison's intentions, but she couldn't be certain about Nicholas, even though he claimed those feelings were in the past; who knows? In a fit of anger, Rachel typed a line and sent it.
[What's the matter? We work together. Can't I be there? It's not my fault that you picked such a good time. I happen to be in Madison's office.] Rachel expressed her frustration.
Nicholas sighed on the other end of the line and quickly typed on his phone: [I was just asking casually; don't overthink.]
Rachel sighed, wondering why she had become so cautious. Ever since the first day she met Nicholas, everyone knew about his feelings for Madison. Now, why was she getting angry? Rachel calmed down and replied to the message.
Rachel: [I'm fine, busy for now.]
Nicholas: [Okay.]
Rachel put down her phone but couldn't resist picking it up again to send another message.
Rachel: [Do you still like Madison?]
Nicholas quickly replied: [Since the moment Madison got back together with Matthew, I've treated her like my younger sister. Now, I like you.]
Before Rachel could reply, another message came through.
Nicholas: [If you don't believe me, I'll prove it tonight.]
Rachel sat in her office, her face turning red. She threw her phone onto the desk. She didn't expect Nicholas to call her directly. Rachel hurriedly ended the call and quickly opened Facebook to reply.
Rachel: [In a meeting.]
At this moment, pretending to be busy was the right move. She stared at her phone, lost in thought, until Sinclair knocked on the door from outside, telling her to attend the meeting. Rachel snapped back to reality and opened the door to leave.
In JK Group's CEO's office on the top floor, it was Matthew's first day back at work after losing his memory. Mitchell had sent him information about the company's situation in advance. A few brothers were having a meeting in Matthew's office to report on the company's business during his absence.
After the meeting, Matthew contacted the department heads for an executive meeting to report on their work in order. The news of Matthew's memory loss hadn't been leaked within the company; only a few people in on it knew. So, while Matthew and the others were in the meeting, the Secretary's office secretaries gathered to discuss.
They said Matthew seemed more serious and expressionless upon returning from his trip as if something was bothering him. They speculated that it might be a family conflict. Perhaps the CEO's wife was unhappy with Matthew's long business trips. Just then, Brian came out of the meeting room to get some documents and was stopped by a few young girls.
"Executive Assistant, wait a second. Did Mr. Matthew argue with Mrs. Matthew?"
Brian stopped in his tracks as they held him back. "I don't think so. President Jonah mentioned this morning that Matthew would drop off Mrs. Matthew at work, so he might arrive at the company a few minutes late."
"Didn't she? But why did Matthew return with an even stonier demeanor from his business trip?"
"Indeed, his expression was as cold as ice."
The room was alive with spirited discussions. Brian's eyebrows drew together in a slight frown. "Is that so? But isn't that typical behavior for the CEO?"
A cluster of young women quickly scattered. It was clear that Brian was well-suited for the role of CEO.
Brian touched his head, thinking. He had come out to get some documents and quickly went to the office to look for them.
