Chapter 221 Trapped
Willow was working in the Pantry. It was her brother's first day back at work, and all the leaders were busy. Even their manager was running up and down the stairs, too busy to pay attention to them. This was one of the benefits of being an employee. When all the leaders were having meetings to summarize their work, they could take the opportunity to slack off.
Willow brewed a cup of coffee and leisurely sat on the sofa in the Pantry, savoring it. Each floor of the JK Group was equipped with a pantry, including a refrigerator, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, and snack cabinet. The coffee was freshly ground, and the coffee beans were good. Willow held the coffee with one hand while casually flipping through the corporate magazine on the table with the other.
The cover of this issue featured Mitchell, and there was also a candid shot on the first page. The rest of the magazine consisted of an interview with him, but it consisted of just the usual official questions and formal answers, and nothing was interesting to read. However, the photos were quite well-taken and more visually appealing than the text.
Willow was still leisurely drinking her coffee when Harrison rushed in. "So, you're hiding here. I've been looking for you everywhere, even went to the restroom." Harrison didn't expect Willow, who was usually diligent, to be hiding in the Pantry, slacking off and drinking coffee.
Willow put down her coffee cup and looked up. "What's wrong? Aren't all the leaders in a meeting? The manager also went upstairs. What could be the matter?" Harrison pulled Willow and headed out. "You were still here drinking coffee. The manager just called asking for you. He said you're not answering your phone. He even called me, asking you to send him a proposal. I don't know what proposal he's talking about. Quickly check your phone. He said he sent you something on Facebook. Go see and give it to him."
Being dragged out of the Pantry by Harrison in a hurry, Willow realized that she had left her phone on the table, and there were indeed several missed calls from managers. She opened Facebook and saw several messages from the manager, asking her to bring the proposal she had revised yesterday to the main conference room. Willow quickly found the blue folder that she had finalized with the manager yesterday. "Harrison, I'll bring the documents to the manager upstairs."
"Go ahead, come back for lunch together at noon," Harrison said, staring at the computer and waving his hand.
"Okay," Willow replied, holding a blue folder and heading toward the elevator.
The elevator came up from the first floor, stopped at the fifteenth floor, and the doors opened with someone inside.
Riley carried a limited edition Hermès handbag, wore black high heels, and a professional fitted skirt suit that showcased her figure. Willow stood outside the elevator and couldn't help but glance down at her own shirt and denim pants, feeling inferior.
"Willow, what a coincidence. Why don't you come in?" Riley said with a professional smile that always seemed superficial and insincere.
Reluctantly, Willow entered with her files and pressed the button for the thirty-second floor. She noticed that the button for the sixteenth floor was lit up and felt uneasy.
As soon as the elevator doors closed, Riley spoke, deliberately smiling and explaining, "Recently, you've been busy with my project, right? But don't worry, today, I'm not here to talk about work. You don't have to work overtime today." Her words implied that Riley came today for personal matters, specifically to find Mitchell.
Willow politely forced a smile and said, "I'll relay this good news to my colleagues in the project team."
When the elevator stopped on the sixteenth floor, Riley carried her bag and stepped out in high heels. "Then I'll go find Mitchell first." Before the elevator doors closed, Willow saw her walking toward Mitchell's office.
Alone in the elevator, Willow realized that she had been seeing Riley frequently in the company recently, with the receptionist downstairs no longer informing her of her arrival. Riley always had something to discuss regarding the project and insisted on meeting with Mitchell, claiming to be the project manager. Willow took a deep breath and was about to lean against the inside of the elevator to rest when the elevator suddenly shook a few times and dropped rapidly, all the lights turning off. Willow was startled but quickly realized it was an elevator malfunction. She urgently pressed all the buttons for each floor and then crouched down against the elevator. Luckily, the elevator soon stopped. She stood up, pushed the emergency button, and quickly connected to the security room.
"Hello, security room. Are you stuck?" Upon receiving the distress call, the security room immediately discovered the elevator malfunction and someone trapped inside.
"Yes."
"Okay, don't worry. We will send someone right away."
After connecting to the security room, Willow crouched down next to the elevator. They knew someone would be sent to rescue them soon, but they needed to find out if the elevator would continue dropping. So Willow crouched down carefully. Their phone had no signal, but they turned on the flashlight. Finally, it wasn't so dark, not so terrifying anymore...
At the entrance of the conference room on the 32nd floor, the project manager looked for Willow, who still needed to deliver the documents. He tried calling her but couldn't reach her. He was extremely worried. The boss was waiting to see the documents. What happened to Willow today? It was crucial, and yet there was a problem. This was not like her. The manager called Harrison, who told him that Willow had already taken the documents upstairs. What was going on? Coming up on the elevator shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Why had she yet to arrive?
Just as the manager was about to go to the elevator to check, Mitchell also came out. "What's going on?" he asked.
"President Jonah, there's a problem. I asked Willow to bring the documents up, but she hasn't arrived yet. They said she came downstairs, but I couldn't reach her. I was going to go check at the elevator," the manager explained, preparing to leave.
Mitchell frowned after hearing this. "I'll go with you." The two headed toward the elevator. When they arrived at the elevator doors, they saw two maintenance workers from the security department, wearing JK Group uniforms, setting up a sign that said "Out of Order, Please Do Not Use" outside the elevator.
"Is the elevator broken? When did it happen?" the manager asked in confusion.
The maintenance workers were all company employees and hurriedly explained when they saw Mitchell approaching. "President Jonah, this elevator malfunctioned just now. We're currently fixing it. If you need to go downstairs, you can temporarily take another elevator. The security department will repair it and resume its operation as soon as possible."
Mitchell listened to the maintenance workers' explanation, furrowing his brows and standing there. Then, suddenly, he seemed to think of something. He grabbed the arm of one of the security department employees, who was about to leave, and urgently asked, "Is there someone inside?"
