Chapter 527 After the Incident Escalated

Willow was snoozing in Mitchell's office lounge, clueless that Savannah had been swiftly handled by HR and was out of the company.

The curtains were drawn tight, making it perfect for a nap.

When Willow woke up, she was momentarily confused by the darkness. She remembered she was in Mitchell's lounge, got up, and turned on the light, realizing the curtains were closed.

She figured Mitchell must've come in during a meeting and closed them for her.

Checking her phone, she saw it was just after four, meaning she’d only slept for a bit over an hour. She thought it was much later.

She got up, walked to the window, and saw the sky still glowing with the winter sunset.

Despite the cold, the twilight scene looked warm and beautiful.

Willow stood by the window, took some photos of the sunset, and got lost in them.

She didn't notice Mitchell enter the lounge with two pieces of cake.

Willow put down her phone and smiled, "Honey, is your meeting over?"

Mitchell saw his wife by the window, bathed in the sunset glow, looking like a sun goddess. She was his little sun, always bright and warm.

He smiled warmly and walked towards her. "Yes, it's over. Let's go home."

He extended his hand, and she placed hers in his. "Okay, let's go home."

Mitchell carried her jacket, and they walked out hand in hand.

The two female assistants in the secretary's office saw them and quickly pressed the elevator button, nodding respectfully.

After Mitchell and Willow entered the elevator, the assistants returned to their office, chatting, "Mr. Jonah and Mrs. Jonah are so loving. It's sweet but a bit much to see every day."

The other assistant smiled, "Admire them, but don't get jealous. Remember what happened to that intern."

"A guy like Mr. Jonah is out of my league. Better to focus on work and making money."

"I'll be happy if Mr. Jonah gives us more salary and bonuses. When the boss's wife has a baby, we might get more."

"Yeah, I need a new phone. Mine was too slow last time. Gotta check out new ones this weekend."

As they chatted, it seemed the whole company was waiting for Willow to have a baby so Mitchell would hand out bonuses.

Matthew found out about the intern incident the next day. Many witnessed it at the café, and Mitchell handled it himself. The person who got coffee spilled was Mitchell's wife, which was a big deal. People didn't openly discuss it but talked privately.

Matthew didn't say much since Mitchell had dealt with it. Otherwise, he would've sent the person to the police.

Later, he called a meeting with HR and department heads.

From now on, department heads must personally interview and confirm interns. The number of intern positions would be reduced, with 90% staying after passing the assessment and the remaining 10% being cut. No private promises or connections allowed. All confirmations needed department head signatures, taking power back from middle management.

He also heard rumors about the fired intern, like trying to privately invite the department manager to dinner with ulterior motives. No matter their education or resume, such people wouldn't be hired.

Mitchell and Willow didn't mention the incident at home. They had already discussed it and didn't want to worry their parents. Since it was dealt with, they decided to move on.

Only when Danielle asked Willow about it did she share the story.

Danielle was furious. "Slapping her would be too kind. If I were there, I would've beaten her so badly her mother wouldn't recognize her. "

She paced back and forth in Willow's room, gesticulating wildly.

"Danielle, sit down. You're making me dizzy," Willow said with a smile.

"You're still smiling. I'm so angry. I should've taken the day off to go with you. Good thing your colleague was there, or who knows what would've happened," Danielle said, plopping down on the sofa.

"She's been fired, so we won't see her again," Willow reassured her.

"You're too kind, that's why people bully you," Danielle said. "You're still being polite to someone who wants to be a homewrecker."

"She didn't succeed, and I believe Mitchell would never be tempted by her," Willow said confidently.

Indeed, no matter how many Savannahs there were, Mitchell would never betray her. She was confident and assured. She hadn't even thought about such things happening, just curious about what the other person looked like and how she could be so brazen despite knowing Mitchell was married. It was her first time encountering such a situation, purely out of curiosity.

After chatting with Danielle for a while, Mitchell came back from the study just as Danielle was leaving.

Mitchell frowned slightly when he saw Willow wasn't asleep. "Why aren't you sleeping?"

"I was chatting with Danielle. She just went back to her room," Willow said softly, her eyes smiling at Mitchell, full of love.

"What were you talking about?" Mitchell asked casually as he grabbed his pajamas to take a shower.

"We talked about Savannah," Willow replied with a smile.

Mitchell stopped, turned around, walked back to the bed, and frowned slightly, "Don't think about unhappy things, okay?"

He then bent down to give her a kiss before heading to the shower.

Willow sat on the bed, giggling as she watched Mitchell walk into the bathroom.

The streetlights outside were a bit bleak. But with him, every season felt gentle and warm.
