Chapter 118 Blocking Out
Chapter 118 Blocking Out
The call connected quickly, and Brianna's voice, excited and urgent, came through: "Matthew."
"Brianna, it seems all you've learned over the years are manipulative tricks. Why did you go to Madison with made-up stories?"
Brianna laughed lightly. "What did I say, Matthew? I just happened by; a friend wanted to commission a gown, and I was inquiring."
"This is the last time I'm calling you. Please stop contacting me from now on. It's inappropriate, and don't disturb my wife."
"No, Matthew, can't we go back to how it was before? We were happy once, weren't we?"
"Happy? Did you ever see me smile when we were together?"
Brianna remained motionless, clutching her phone tightly.
Matthew terminated the call abruptly and proceeded to block her on Facebook and from his phone.
After Madison had tucked the children in and they'd fallen asleep, she came out to Matthew standing on the balcony. "Matthew, come inside, there's a chill tonight."
Matthew turned around, his expression shifting from cold detachment to a warm smile, as he walked back into the house.
Embraced from behind, with his chin atop her head, Madison discovered the affectionate side of this guy.
"What's up?"
"It's nothing. I just called Brianna," he responded.
Madison tensed slightly, hearing that he'd called Brianna.
Feeling the stiffness in her embrace, Matthew hastened to explain, "I told her to stop bothering us and blocked her number. Honey, you should block her, too. Don't pick up her calls anymore."
Madison hadn't expected that call to Brianna was meant to put a firm end to her disruptions. To say she wasn't moved would be a lie; insecurity and a lack of confidence constantly plagued her, coupled with an absence of safety. Now, his actions were simply, clear proclamation of love. Bolstering her confidence and sense of security. Letting her know he truly cared for her.
"Matthew, thank you."
"Honey, you know, I wouldn't mind a different kind of thank you." With a mischievous grin, he pulled Madison close, pressing her tightly against himself. Madison's face went beet red as she felt the awakening sign of his desire. Seizing a moment of distraction, she wriggled free from his grasp and fled. "I'm going to take a shower."
Observing her retreating figure, a broad smile adorned Matthew's lips. His wife remained adorably shy, even after all this time.

Brianna eagerly answered Matthew's call, unaware that he had discovered her attempt to approach Madison. She believed Madison might harbor doubt and suspicion but didn't anticipate a direct confrontation with Matthew about it.
She didn't expect that they were now so close that Matthew would call her personally to warn her off, even going as far as to block her on Facebook and his phone.
Crying, Brianna clutched her phone to dial his number over and over, to no avail. Her Facebook messages remained undelivered. By her feet lay several empty bottles, and she grabbed another, pouring its contents down her throat.
She was in disbelief, in her despair asking, why, why!
It was all because of Madison. Because of her, Matthew was treating her this way.
In college, Brianna noticed Matthew and developed an interest in him. He was straightforward, reserved, and not one to say much. She persistently pursued him, tracking his schedule and always 'coincidentally' crossing paths with him, boldly asking for his number. It turned out to be a determined pursuit that caught his attention.
Once they were together, Matthew never took the initiative; she organized every date, and all he had to do was show up.
He now tells himself that those days weren't happy at all.
An empty bottle of wine lay on the table.
She never had a desire to visit Paris, but her godfather had business there. Raised in an orphanage, she was unexpectedly adopted by someone who provided her with a lovely home, a butler, dance lessons, and unlimited funds. The man who adopted her only revealed himself as her godfather when she turned ten.
It wasn't until college that she gradually learned what her godfather did for a living; however, she had no choice—it was fate, decided from the moment she was born.
But she couldn't reconcile herself with that fate. She had no say in her origins, but her feelings for Matthew were real, which made it impossible for her to give up.

After their "exercise," the couple lay entwined in bed.
Madison's eyes brimmed with tears. She was exhausted, utterly spent, devoid of energy even to move.
"I really can't come here anymore after tomorrow," Madison said softly, playfully punching him on the chest, though it felt more like tickling to him.
"Just once today, I tried to control myself, but what can I do? You're irresistible, and as soon as I see you, I can't help myself," Matthew shamelessly declared, leaving Madison without a response.
She huffed and turned her back to him.
"All right, all right, whatever you say, honey," he conceded.
Smug with his gains, Matthew wrapped his arms around his wife and drifted off to sleep.
The following morning, Madison found herself in a similar sleeping position as the previous night, and it left her frustrated. She vividly recalled turning away from him before going to sleep, yet here they were, embracing again.
Matthew was still tightly holding her from behind, his large hand gripping hers firmly.
Opening her eyes, Madison saw Matthew was already awake, his bright black eyes fixed on her.
"When did you wake up?"
"A little while ago."
"Let me get up to make breakfast for the kids."
"It's early, let's sleep a bit more."
Madison allowed herself to be pulled back into bed, and they lingered cozily for a while longer before finally getting up.
The family of four had breakfast together before leaving the house.
Matthew dropped Madison off at the studio before heading to his office.
Following their marriage reconciliation, Madison once inquired if Matthew was bothered by her extensive work commitments and the resulting limited time spent with the kids.
He said as long as she was happy, that's what mattered.
Matthew never contemplated requesting Madison to relinquish her beloved career, and he gladly picked her up after work each day, sporting a cheerful smile.
He playfully mentioned that in case JK Group faced financial troubles, and he found himself penniless, he might have to depend on his wife as the primary earner.
Matthew assured Madison that he supported her career choices, understanding that her pursuit of a dream was more important than financial gain. Madison appreciated his encouragement, recognizing that his words were meant to ease her worries about pursuing her passion. While the idea of him becoming penniless and relying on her was unlikely, it warmed her heart to know he understood her commitment to chasing her dream in fashion design.
