Chapter 497 Movie Date

Rachel suddenly looked up, eyes wide. "How can that be?"

She'd overheard Nicholas talking to his grandma on the phone a few days ago. The old lady missed her grandson.

She couldn't be that selfish.

"So, should I really go?" Nicholas asked with a smile.

Rachel nodded.

"You go first. I'll head in after you leave," Nicholas suggested.

Rachel shook her head. "No, you go in first. I'll leave after."

They stood there, stuck in a standoff, until Rachel finally gave in and turned to leave first. She waved goodbye to Nicholas with a reluctant smile.

Nicholas was torn, fighting the urge to stay.

Just as Rachel was about to turn and leave the airport terminal, Nicholas couldn't hold back. "Rachel!"

She turned around, confused.

Nicholas took a few big strides and reached her in no time.

"What..." Rachel started to ask, but Nicholas cupped her face and kissed her.

Her words were lost in his kiss. It was fierce, urgent, and deep, drawing the attention of passersby. But they didn't care, lost in the moment, trying to ease the longing they'd feel in the coming days.

Finally, when Rachel's legs felt weak and she was almost out of breath, Nicholas let her go. They embraced, and Nicholas's voice was hoarse. "I'll be waiting for you in Horizon City."

Rachel, still catching her breath, buried her face in his chest and softly replied, "Okay."

After holding each other for a while, Nicholas let her go and headed towards the boarding gate.

Rachel stood there, face flushed, still dazed from the kiss. It wasn't until Nicholas's figure completely disappeared that she snapped out of it and quickly left the terminal, thinking about how many people had just witnessed that.

In the following days, Rachel's routine was the same as always. Eating, sleeping, and visiting relatives.

Nicholas was also busy after returning home, with many relatives visiting during Christmas.

Rachel and Nicholas kept in touch during the day. Sometimes Rachel would send a message, and it would take a while for Nicholas to reply. But they had an understanding: whenever something interesting happened, they'd share it, not expecting an immediate response.

Rachel would often send a message and then chat with her cousins or play with her nieces and nephews, not waiting for Nicholas's reply. If she remembered to check and there was no reply, she wouldn't be disappointed. If there was a reply, she'd respond.

Every night before bed, they would video chat for half an hour, sharing the mundane details of their day, like where they ate or which relatives visited. No matter what the other person said, they listened attentively and responded.

This was what it was like when two people with similar interests and compatible personalities were in a relationship. It felt comfortable, and even though they were just dating, it seemed like they'd been together for decades.

Rachel booked a flight back to Horizon City for seven days after Christmas. Her studio always reopened eight days after Christmas, and this year was no different. She planned to return a day early to prep for the reopening.

She flew out of Frostpine at noon and arrived in Horizon City in the afternoon. As she walked out of the airport terminal, she saw Nicholas standing at the exit.

When Rachel looked at him, Nicholas looked back, their eyes meeting, filled with the longing of the past few days.

He waved with a smile, and Rachel quickened her pace towards him, holding back the urge to run and hug him. She stopped in front of him, her eyes sparkling with joy.

Nicholas took her suitcase with one hand and held her hand tightly with the other. Without a word, they walked to the parking lot.

It was already getting dark, and it was dinnertime. Not many places were open, so Nicholas drove Rachel back to the apartment. He had brought back a trunk full of groceries from home, enough to last them several days.

Nicholas quickly cooked two dishes and made a soup.

After dinner, he asked Rachel to unpack while he did the dishes.

Once everything was sorted, they sat in the living room watching TV. An ad for new Christmas movies caught Rachel's interest. Several movies had been released, and two had good reviews. She had wanted to see them while at home but had been too busy. Since it was still early, they could go out and watch a movie.

"Nicholas, how about we go see a movie?" Rachel asked.

"Okay," Nicholas agreed without hesitation, not wanting to disappoint her.

They put on their coats and headed out. Nicholas drove to the nearest cinema, thinking it wouldn't be too crowded, but it was surprisingly busy.

They didn't mind and bought tickets for the next available show, a comedy with good reviews. Since they had just eaten, they didn't get any snacks. Rachel pulled Nicholas to buy two cups of hot bubble tea to take into the theater.

The movie was indeed good. Rachel, with her low threshold for humor, laughed throughout the movie. By the end, her cheeks were sore from laughing so much. She rubbed her cheeks with both hands, and Nicholas looked at her affectionately, smiling.

After leaving the cinema, they took a walk around a nearby park, which was beautifully decorated and bustling with people.

They walked aimlessly, enjoying the peaceful and quiet moments together.
