Chapter 520 Coffee Shop Conflict
Willow and Elizabeth walked into the café, and Willow couldn't help but say, "This place is so cozy. Working here must be nice, huh?"
Elizabeth smiled, "If you come here often, you can enjoy it regularly."
"Being pregnant makes it a bit tricky," Willow said, sinking into a sofa by the window. "This sofa is amazing. It's making me sleepy."
"Yeah, it's super comfy," Elizabeth agreed, testing the sofa with a few bounces.
Usually, she'd just grab a coffee or cake and head back to the office, rarely sitting down to enjoy it. When she did sit, it was usually at the bar for convenience.
"What do you want? I'll order. It's on the house, thanks to your husband," Elizabeth said, knowing Mitchell, who had shares in the company, was one of the bosses. The coffee and cake were free, so it was like Mitchell was treating them.
Willow laughed, "Then I should eat more. I'll have a piece of chocolate cake, a piece of mango cake, and a cup of hot milk."
Elizabeth's eyes widened, and she gave a thumbs up. "You're really eating for two now. Didn't you get enough at lunch with Mr. Jonah?" she joked.
Willow looked a bit embarrassed. "I ate a lot at lunch too."
Elizabeth paused, then burst out laughing. "You really are a foodie."
Elizabeth went to place the order. The café wasn't busy, so she quickly brought back the coffee, milk, and cakes.
Willow eagerly took a bite of the chocolate cake, "This is so good."
She quickly finished the chocolate cake and slowed down with the mango cake.
Elizabeth sipped her coffee and nibbled on her chocolate cake, eating slowly.
As they chatted, they didn't mention the interns again.
Elizabeth shared stories about people she knew. When she mentioned a shy guy from their office dating a beautiful girl from the entertainment department, Willow's eyes widened. "Really? I remember he was so shy. When he called me 'Willow', his voice was so soft I had to lean in to hear him."
"It's true. It's public now. They go to and from work together and have lunch together. I've seen them several times, and I heard she pursued him," Elizabeth said, eyes sparkling with gossip.
"Well, besides being shy, he's quite handsome, has a good temper, is well-educated, and good at his job. His only drawback is his shyness," Willow said with a smile.
"That's true. After Mr. Jonah, he's the most capable person in our project department. And they do make a good couple," Elizabeth nodded seriously.
Willow squinted at her. "With so many people in the company, why don't you make a move like that girl from the entertainment department? You're not getting any younger."
"Being single is awesome. So much freedom. Once I save enough, I'll buy a small apartment and live comfortably by myself," Elizabeth said casually. She had no plans to get married.
As they were chatting, Savannah and her sidekick walked into the café.
Elizabeth spotted them right away and turned to Willow. "What's going on today? Why do I keep running into these two?"
Willow followed her gaze and saw the intern, immediately getting what Elizabeth meant.
"The company's not that big, and we're in the same department. It's normal to run into each other," Willow said with a smile, unsure how to handle it.
They ignored the interns and kept enjoying their cake and chat.
"You're right. I need to stop getting mad at the sight of her. It's not worth it," Elizabeth said, taking an exaggerated deep breath, making Willow laugh.
Just then, an unwelcome voice interrupted. "Elizabeth, what a coincidence! You're here, too."
Elizabeth and Willow stopped smiling and turned to see the two interns standing nearby, each holding a cup of coffee.
Before they could say anything, Savannah plopped down next to Willow on the sofa, acting like they were close. "Elizabeth, is this a company partner? I don't think I've met her before."
Elizabeth had just decided not to let people like this get to her, but she was immediately annoyed. 'Who gave Savannah permission to sit down? There are plenty of other seats, but she had to squeeze in with us, clearly trying to annoy us.'
Elizabeth kept rolling her eyes, but Willow was somewhat impressed by Savannah's composure. She kept smiling as if she didn't notice Elizabeth's disdain.
"Is it any of your business?" Elizabeth snapped, then continued eating her cake, clearly not intending to answer her.
The shorter intern just awkwardly sat down next to Elizabeth.
Seeing Elizabeth ignore her, Savannah turned to Willow. "Madam, which company are you from? Working while pregnant must be tough. When I get married, I want a husband who'll take care of me. If I'm pregnant, I should be resting at home. Otherwise, what's the point of having a husband, right?"
Willow was stunned. She hadn't done anything, yet she was being looked down upon.
Before she could respond, Elizabeth couldn't hold back any longer. She stood up, pointed at Savannah, and shouted, "Savannah, I've had enough of you. Stop pretending in front of me. Take your coffee and get out of here. Stop disgusting us. Do you even know who her husband is? You're just an intern, and you're showing off here."
