Chapter 285 Awakening
Willow quickly shielded her sandwich with both hands. "It's fine, really. I don't mind it cold," she insisted, not wanting to let go of her hard-earned meal.
Genuinely concerned about her well-being, Mitchell reached out to take it, "Willow, please, you might get sick." His tone was serious, his expression earnest.
"I've already taken a bite. Let me finish it," Willow pouted, unable to resist her craving.
"I promise, when we get back, I'll buy you one every day," Mitchell coaxed gently.
"But I want it now. I can't wait," Willow replied, stuffing another piece into her mouth, her actions speaking louder than words.
Mitchell, feeling helpless, reached out and grabbed her arms. One was trying to protect her food. The other was trying to snatch it away. Before they knew it, they found themselves in a compromising position, their bodies pressed closely together.
Willow was pressed against the passenger seat, her small frame almost disappearing into it, her arms held down by Mitchell, rendering her immobile. Mitchell, towering over her, leaned in, their faces inches apart, their hearts and breaths almost synchronized. At that moment, both froze, caught off guard by the intimacy of the situation.
Mitchell quickly stood up, pulling Willow to her feet, and swiftly returned to his seat, his face flushed. After a few seconds, he finally managed to say, "Go ahead, eat."
"Okay," Willow replied, her face flushed as she sat there, silently eating her sandwich. Throughout the journey, there was an unspoken awkwardness between them. Willow ate her sandwich quietly while Mitchell stole glances at the girl sitting next to him, marveling at how she managed to finish all three sandwiches. He couldn't help but recall her earlier efforts to protect them; she really did enjoy eating.
They hadn't booked their tickets together; Mitchell had a first-class ticket, while Willow had an economy ticket. During check-in, Mitchell had her upgraded to first class, with a seat next to his. When he handed her the ticket, he explained, "I accumulated many points from my previous business trips, so the airline upgraded your ticket for free."
Willow excitedly took the ticket, "Really, Mitchell? That's amazing! I feel like I've hit the jackpot, getting to fly first class for the price of an economy ticket." Willow didn't doubt it for a second, happily taking the ticket and even asking, "Mitchell, how many points do you have left?"
Mitchell looked at her clever expression, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. After a while, he deliberately said, "I'm not telling you."
Willow was momentarily stunned, turned her head, and mumbled, "Forget it then."
Mitchell quickly grabbed her arm and said, "I don't know either. I've never checked. You can log into your account and see for yourself next time."
"Okay," Willow immediately brightened up, thinking that Mitchell probably didn't understand these things, and she didn't want the points to go to waste. Willow was thrifty and careful with her spending.
Madison woke up in a daze, realizing she was in a bed, but something was off. She sat up suddenly and found herself on the same hospital bed where Matthew had been, but he was gone, and so were Quentin and Hannah.
Frantically, she got out of bed, searching everywhere, confirming that there was no one in the room. However, her belongings from the hotel were still there, along with the fruits she bought yesterday. Only the people were missing.
Madison quickly looked for her phone, not knowing who to call, as Matthew's phone was still on the bedside. A nurse walked in just as she was about to cry in despair. Madison rushed forward and grabbed the nurse's hand, too agitated to speak.
Seeing her awake, the nurse smiled and asked, "You're awake?" Madison took a deep breath, finally finding her voice, "Hello, can you tell me where the adult and two children in the ward went? They were the ones who were hospitalized yesterday for drowning."
Seeing Madison's anxious look, the nurse quickly replied, "You mean your husband and the two adorable twins? Your husband has already woken up, and the doctor has examined him. He's fine and can be discharged at any time. He should be outside with the two children. I just heard my colleague say they met them."
"Really? Can you ask your colleague where they met? I want to find them," Madison said, her face filled with excitement, eager to reunite with Matthew and the kids.
"I'll find out for you," the nurse said, taking out her phone and messaging her colleague on Facebook to inquire about Matthew's whereabouts. Soon, she received a reply. The nurse looked at her phone and said, "They should be back soon, heading toward the ward. You should wait for them in the room so you don't miss each other."
Madison stopped in her tracks, realizing that she might miss them if she went out and they came back. So she decided to wait in the ward for them.
"Your husband is really good to you. He woke up early this morning, went to see the doctor for a check-up, and specifically told us not to disturb your rest. After his check-up, he took the two children out for breakfast," the nurse said, tidying up the bed and sofa and chatting with Madison about the morning's events.
Madison had an anxious smile on her face, becoming more and more impatient as she listened, constantly looking toward the door. After tidying up, the nurse smiled at Madison and said, "I have some good news. They'll be here in five minutes. I won't disturb you anymore. I'll leave first. If you need anything, just go to the nurse's station."
As soon as the nurse left, Madison couldn't wait and walked to the door, opened it, and prepared to wait there. Just as she opened the door, she heard Hannah and Quentin's familiar voices from a distance, shouting, "Mommy!"
