Chapter 528 Ethan Jonah, Mikey
At the end of summer, Willow had a baby boy named Ethan Jonah, nicknamed Mikey by Mitchell.
Willow chose the first name from browsing online during her pregnancy. If it was a girl, she would've named her Luna Jonah; for a boy, it was Ethan.
Mitchell was cool with the name. As long as Willow was happy, he was happy too.
Both sets of parents didn't meddle. Willow's parents, former university professors, said it was up to the young couple since a name is just a label.
So, when the baby was born and it was a boy, they named him Ethan. Willow picked the first name, and Mitchell chose the nickname, Mikey.
Willow loved the nickname Mikey; it was simple and nice.
Little Mikey's birth really tired out his dad.
Two months before the due date, Mitchell mostly worked from home, only going to the office once or twice a week, spending the rest of the time with Willow.
Lloyd and Patricia arrived a month before the due date and stayed in Willow's old apartment.
As the due date got closer, everyone got nervous, especially Mitchell, who was half-awake at night, worried Willow might go into labor.
They had a suitcase packed and ready for the hospital.
Matthew told Mitchell, "Don't worry, just take the suitcase to the hospital when it's time."
Matthew was super nervous when Madison's water broke, but now he was calm giving advice.
Despite his words, Mitchell was still very nervous. He stayed close to Willow and hardly slept. But the due date came and went with no signs of labor.
On that day, Willow and Mitchell had dinner and took a short walk in the garden before heading to bed.
Willow's belly was huge. If they hadn't confirmed it was just one baby, they would've thought she was having twins like Madison.
In the late stages, the doctor told her to avoid sweets because the baby was big, and she needed to control her diet for a natural birth.
Willow had bad morning sickness early on, but her appetite was good later, and the baby absorbed most of the nutrients. She stayed slender with a noticeable waistline from behind, but her big belly was obvious from the front. At the supermarket, people often said she was definitely having a boy.
Mitchell didn't like hearing that and would say, "How can you tell? There's no science behind that."
Willow found it funny that Mitchell was still hoping for a daughter.
Mitchell helped Willow with her bath and only washed himself after she was in bed. As her belly grew, he didn't trust her to bathe alone, so he took over everything, including cutting her nails and washing her hair.
After his bath, Mitchell lay on the bed and, as usual, talked to Willow's big belly, "Baby, are you coming out tonight? Mommy and I are waiting for you."
That night, both Willow and Mitchell were sure the baby would arrive since it was the due date.
The whole family waited all day, but nothing happened.
Both moms said the baby might not be ready and told them not to wait up. If nothing happened by midnight, they should go to the hospital in the morning.
Mitchell turned off the lights and told Willow to sleep first while he stayed by her side, only falling asleep late at night.
In the middle of the night, Willow groggily got up to go to the bathroom, and Mitchell woke up with a start, thinking she was in labor. He anxiously asked, "Honey, is your stomach hurting? Did your water break?"
Willow, half-asleep, said, "Honey, I just need to go to the bathroom."
Mitchell quickly got out of bed and helped her to the bathroom.
It turned out Willow really just needed to use the bathroom; no contractions, no water breaking, no signs of labor.
Mitchell carefully helped her back to bed, but he couldn't sleep, convinced labor would start that night.
The next morning, Willow woke up to see Mitchell propped up on the bed with dark circles under his eyes. She felt a pang of heartache. She wanted to get up and wash up herself, but as soon as she moved, Mitchell opened his eyes.
"Honey, are you awake?" His voice was hoarse and tired.
Willow gently said, "Honey, get some sleep. The baby will come out eventually. Let's go to the hospital in the afternoon. There's no rush. The doctor said it's normal for the baby to come before or after the due date. Let's not stress about it."
She felt they had been too anxious all week. It didn't affect her much, but Mitchell hadn't slept well for several nights. She realized the baby would come when it was time, and there was no need to rush.
Mitchell didn't go back to sleep but got up with Willow. They washed up, had breakfast, and went straight to the hospital.
The doctor, seeing their anxiety, laughed and said after a thorough check-up, "The baby is healthy. Just wait a few more days. It's normal for the baby to come two weeks before or after the due date. Don't worry, the little one might not want to leave their mommy yet. You're in good shape, so there's no need to stay in the hospital early. Just be careful and come in if there are any signs."
Hearing the doctor's words, they both sighed in relief.
Willow smiled and whispered to Mitchell, "I knew everything would be fine."
Mitchell, helping her to the parking lot, smiled back. "Yes, honey, you're always right."
They happily went home.
After the hospital visit, Mitchell relayed the doctor's words, and the whole family relaxed. They stopped watching Willow's belly so closely and waited patiently.
