Chapter 180 Confrontation

Matthew said nothing more to her, his silence as he sat in the chair, clearly stating his stance.

Brianna was at a loss; she knew if she didn't leave now, her godfather would discover she had been here, and her troubles would only multiply. Realizing she couldn't take Matthew with her today, she reluctantly turned, opened the door, and swiftly left.
After Brianna left, the maid entered and mentioned that the homeowner had requested Matthew's presence. Cautiously, he excused himself to the restroom, where the maid patiently awaited his return outside the door. Inside, Matthew carefully re-concealed the handgun Dorian had given him the previous night around his ankle, securing it snugly underneath his dark socks. After flushing the toilet for the sake of appearance, he emerged from the bathroom.

Matthew followed the maid through the estate, starting with a walk through the backyard garden. They reached a small building on the villa's outskirts. Inside, Matthew entered a dimly lit corridor with locked rooms. After walking for about ten minutes, he entered the grand hall. K sat at the center surrounded by his henchmen, with Dorian beside him. In front of them was a table filled with leather cases of firearms.

Matthew took his seat without revealing his unease and quipped, "This little stash hardly seems sufficient."

At a silent command from K, additional cases were produced and revealed to contain high-end sniper rifles.

"How about that? Whatever quantity, whatever type you want, we have it. But... not a dime less," K stated as another associate placed a laptop in front of Matthew.

"You've seen the merchandise. I assure you everything leaving my hands is clean," K continued. "I'm sure Eagle has informed you about our protocol: payment first, then you take the goods." K nodded his chin upward, motioning for Matthew to get started on the laptop.

After briefly exchanging glances with Dorian, Matthew returned his attention to the laptop screen, which displayed a wire transfer page. He knew the money in his account would soon disappear. K and his armed crew watched intently, undoubtedly ready to never let Matthew leave if the transaction went wrong, but also poised to take action if he refused to pay, placing him in immediate peril.

With swift keystrokes, Matthew entered a specially prepared account number followed by its password.

"Done."

One of K's men swiftly took the laptop, tapped a few keys, and then nodded to K, "Big Bro, it's received."

K erupted into laughter, the sound starkly contrasting to his unnaturally youthful face—a testament to expensive cosmetic procedures. "Heh, it is always a pleasure to do business with a straightforward man. Take the goods whenever you're ready."

"Now," Matthew replied tersely, reaching for the cases on the table. K hesitated, his gaze shifting to Dorian with an unspoken instruction.
Dorian deliberately stood up and abruptly snapped the suitcase shut. "Hey, what's the rush? Someone will send it out to you later. No need for you to bother doing it yourself," he said casually.

Matthew's inscrutable gaze met Dorian's eyes, and in that brief exchange, both of them sprang into action. Dorian stepped forward and grabbed K from behind in a chokehold while Matthew kicked the suitcase filled with guns behind them.

Caught off guard by the sudden turn of events, K and his henchmen didn't have time to react. K kept his cool despite being captured and said with eerie calmness, "Eagle, you dare betray me? Do you really think you two can walk out of here?" He then barked at his men, "What are you waiting for? Grab them!"

The men rushed toward Matthew and Dorian, but Dorian drew a dagger and pressed it to K's throat, warning, "Take one more step and see what happens."

The henchmen hesitated, slightly intimidated, unsure whether to advance or not.

Quickly, Matthew joined Dorian at K's back. Dorian turned to K and whispered, "Take us to the basement."

Under their control, K led them to the basement and was forced to open the heavy door. His men followed closely, pressing in on them more and more.

Dorian tossed a USB drive to Matthew, instructing him to copy all the data from the computer.

K's unflappable demeanor threw Dorian; it felt too smooth, as if they were walking into a trap.

After Matthew copied the data, he joined Dorian, and they nodded.

Together, they escorted K out of the basement, making their way back to the parlor. As they approached the front door, Dorian suddenly clutched his abdomen, dropping the dagger to the floor. Matthew caught him from behind—it was a sniper already in position.

K stood before them, looking down with a smirk, "Eagle, did you really think I trusted you? Did you think the data you copied was real? Hahaha, today was just a play, a little ploy to reel you in." After his chilling words, he turned to his men, "Tie them both up. Take Eagle separately; I will show you what happens when you betray me."
Matthew supported Dorian, calculating the time since Victor and his crew had stormed in. As he logged into the computer account, Victor should have received the decoy message he sent out. It was actually a dummy account, with no real money transferred out—just a façade created through some technical tricks. But the moment Matthew entered the account details, he knew Victor would get the message. So, holding on a little longer, he thought Victor must be close by now.

Reaching down to the handgun at his ankle, Matthew took advantage of Kay, turned his back, and fired. Since he wasn't a professional, the shot hit Kay's shoulder instead of a more lethal spot. Nevertheless, it completely infuriated him and Kay's men, hearing the gunshot, and they all whipped out their weapons.

Gunshots rang out, and Matthew quickly pulled Dorian behind a door.

Then, tossing the gun out, he emerged with his hands raised in a gesture of surrender. His goal was to buy time. A confrontation was surely a losing battle. What was crucial was getting the evidence to dismantle the criminal organization completely. It was most important to preserve his life and Dorian's, confident that Victor and the international police were just a little behind.

Kay, supported by his men, watched Matthew step out with his hands raised and, without hesitation, raised his gun and shot at him.
