Matthew rushed to pick up his kids from daycare, then swung by the studio to collect Madison. Together, they returned to The Old Residence, where everyone was thrilled to see the family reunited. The children eagerly sought out WilTristan to play with them.
During dinner, Matthew casually produced a marriage certificate from his pocket and placed it in front of Grandpa, a mischievous smile playing on his lips as he resumed eating.
Gramps, still a bit bewildered, was trying to grasp what his grandson was up to when Tristan, seated beside him, leaned over to inspect the document closely, his face lighting up with excitement as he grasped Gramps' hand.
"Gramps, it's a marriage certificate!"
Gramps picked up two marriage certificate booklets from the table and looked at them excitedly, his gaze eventually landing on Madison.
"Madison, honey, tell me the truth. Did this rascal force you into anything? Speak to me. I'm here to protect you," he said.
Madison blushed, feeling embarrassed by the conspicuous display of their marriage certificate. She couldn't fathom why anyone would do such a thing.
Seeing Madison bow her head, Gramps' irritation flared.
"I knew this boy was no good," he muttered.
Seeing Gramps upset, Madison quickly interjected, "Gramps, please, calm down. Matthew didn't force me. I... I chose to remarry him voluntarily."
Her head drooped even lower after she spoke.
Gramps, hearing this, chirped, "That's great, great, great," while continuing to scrutinize the marriage certificates.
Watching Gramps fixated on the certificates, Matthew couldn't help himself and said, "Gramps, give it back to me. Trust me, it's legit."
After taking them back, he returned them to his pocket.
Quentin and Hannah sat at the table, munching on their meal, quietly listening to the adults' conversation. They understood the significance of marriage and were thrilled that their parents had finally tied the knot.
Hannah thought about returning to Frostpine, feeling reassured now that she had a dad to stand up for her. Quentin remembered a recent conversation with Matthew, where he apologized for not being there before and promised to take care of Mom from now on.
Watching his family revel in happiness, Gramps couldn't resist the urge to celebrate. He called Tristan over to fetch some old whiskey, sharing a small drink with Matthew.
As the evening wound down, Tristan escorted Gramps upstairs to bed, but not before Gramps made everyone promise to stay the night.
Tonight, the kids insisted on going to bed by themselves after their bath, and Madison realized they were growing more independent. It was a bittersweet moment, as she couldn't help but feel a twinge of loss at how quickly they were growing up.
It was never the children who couldn't let go but the adults.
Madison stepped out of the kids' room and was startled to find Matthew standing silently at the doorway. She took a step back, clutching her chest in surprise.
"Why are you standing there without making a sound?" she exclaimed.
"I was waiting for you," Matthew said, his voice tinged with hurt. He had been in the room, waiting for Madison, worried that she might have fallen asleep with Hannah. He had just reached the door when Madison came out, which is why she was startled.
"Are Quentin and Hannah asleep?" he asked.
"Yeah."
"Then let's go, honey," Matthew said, eager now that the kids were asleep, pulling Madison back to their room.
As soon as the door closed, Madison was pressed against it, met by a tempest of kisses...
After a nightcap with Grandpa, Matthew's breath smelled faintly of whiskey. Madison's cheeks were flushed a crimson echo from their previous embrace.
Matthew gently caressed her cheek, unable to hide his happiness. Despite being slightly tipsy, his mind was unmistakably clear. With a silly smile, he murmured, "Honey, you're finally back."
Each word he spoke was softer than the last until he planted a tender kiss on her blushing cheeks.
Suddenly, Matthew scooped up Madison in his arms and carried her to the big bed in the middle of the bedroom.
"Ah!" Madison yelped in surprise, clinging tightly to his neck.
Laid down on the bed, Madison surveyed the familiar setup of the room, the same as she left it. This was her first time back since she'd been staying at The Old Residence, sleeping with Quentin and Hannah, not once stepping foot in their own bedroom.
Seeing his sweetheart spacing out beneath him, Matthew leaned in and sealed her lips with his own. He took advantage of her momentary daze to delve deeper...
The kiss was urgent and intense, only letting up when Madison's breath began to falter.
"You're so silly, always forgetting to breathe," Matthew said with a teasing smile, though his eyes were filled with affection. "Your husband is right here, and yet you dare to daydream."
Madison lifted her hand, gently tapping on his shoulder; her coquettish eyes and flirtatious gaze captivated his soul with just a glance.
From her angle, the chiseled line of his jaw and the alluring Adam's apple caught her attention. Every so often, it bobbed slightly as he spoke. Through the somewhat unbuttoned shirt, she could glimpse his solid chest and well-defined abs, radiating warmth and strength.
Hearing him playfully utter the endearments of "honey" and "hubby"—terms they had never used before—it touched a tender spot in her heart.
Matthew gazed down at Madison, his kiss soft and deliberate as if he was cherishing a treasured possession held in his hands. Slowly moving from her lips down to her neck, he continued downward...
Madison couldn't help but let out a soft murmur, lightly wrapping her arms around his.
His excitement grew as he sensed her initiative beneath him; enveloped in her tenderness and warmth, he felt utterly defenseless and even more impassioned...
Afterward, it was the middle of the night.
Madison, her cheeks flushed, pushed him aside, intending to get out of bed for a shower. Matthew held her close, showering her with kisses, reluctant to let go.
"I'll join you in the shower."
"No," Madison quickly refused, darting into the bathroom and locking the door behind her. She wasn't up for another round.
Matthew lay on the bed, a light smile on his face, casually pulling a sheet over him, his eight-pack abs still on display. The air conditioning in the room was on, so he didn't feel the chill.
After her shower, Madison urged Matthew to take one, too; they had skipped that step before.
Matthew emerged from the bathroom to find Madison already asleep, peacefully lying in bed with even breaths. He approached her gently, sliding into bed and spooning her sleeping form.
She instinctively nestled into his embrace, finding comfort in his arms, and drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
He leaned in, kissed the top of her head, and whispered affectionately, "Honey, thank you for coming back to me."
They slept peacefully, wrapped in each other's arms, finding solace in their closeness.
