Chapter 416 Being Teased
In the midst of everyone's low laughter, Willow stood there with a flushed face. It felt just like those times back in school when she was caught daydreaming in class, and the teacher called her out, making her stand up, feeling anxious and uneasy.
As Elizabeth passed by Willow, she whispered, "It's okay, just act cute."
She had noticed from her seat slightly behind Willow that she had been engrossed in chatting on Facebook, and Mitchell had glanced their way countless times, but Willow hadn't noticed at all. Elizabeth was in the row behind Willow, so she couldn't get Willow's attention. In the latter half of the meeting, it was obvious that Mitchell was somewhat distracted, so the meeting ended particularly early today.
Willow felt even more nervous and uneasy, when everyone else had left the conference room, leaving only Mitchell and her. She glanced up at Mitchell, who was standing by the main chair, smiling at her, and then he beckoned her over with a cool voice. "Willow, come here."
Willow slowly moved over, holding her laptop, thinking about what Elizabeth had said about acting cute. As she got closer, she put her computer on the table, placed her hands behind her back, twisted her fingers together, then looked up and gave Mitchell a sweet smile. "Mitchell."
Her face was a bit red, and her voice was soft and sweet, taking Mitchell aback. He wasn't really angry; it was just that Willow had been smiling at her laptop during the meeting, clearly chatting with someone and not even glancing at him.
He was jealous.
He couldn't wait to end the meeting and openly ask her to stay behind. He wanted to see who she had been chatting with during the conference.
Mitchell took a step forward, closing the half-meter gap between them. As Willow looked up, her forehead brushed against Mitchell's lips, making her face turn red.
Mitchell was slightly taken aback, then smiled and asked in a deep, pleasant voice, "Who were you chatting with just now?"
Willow, seemingly mesmerized by his voice, looked at him with wide eyes and answered obediently, "My college roommates."
"Something going on?" Mitchell leaned slightly on the conference table with one hand, giving off a relaxed and comfortable vibe, completely different from his serious demeanor during the meeting.
"Yes, one of my roommates is getting married next month in Emerald Isle City, and I need to go," Willow told Mitchell about Amanda's upcoming wedding.
"What date next month? I'll buy your plane ticket." Mitchell stood up straight, subtly pulling Willow's hand into his, holding it tightly.
"The 8th. I need to go early because I and the other two girls in our dorm are all bridesmaids," Willow said softly, only to realize that Mitchell had already led her out of the conference room and was heading toward his office.
"Alright, I'll get you a ticket for the morning of the 7th. Do you need a hotel reservation?" Mitchell said as he led her to his office, arranging everything for her so she wouldn't have to worry about a thing.
"Let's not book it yet. I'll check with the others first." Willow planned to discuss with Lisa and Karen to see what their plans were before deciding.
"Alright, let me know if you need anything," Mitchell said as they reached his office door.
He opened the door, led her inside, and took out some fresh milk from the fridge. Willow had eaten little for breakfast, and he knew she would be hungry by lunchtime, so he brought her to the office to have some milk first.
Willow took the milk and was about to leave. "Mitchell, I'll go back to work now."
"No rush, finish the milk first," Mitchell said.
Willow unscrewed the cap and took a big gulp. Mitchell stood in front of her, smiling and watching her intently.
Feeling a bit embarrassed under his heated gaze, she touched her face and asked uncertainly, "Mitchell, why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?"
Mitchell nodded with a charming smile. He loosened his tie slightly and, with a somewhat hoarse voice, said, "Yes, there is."
"Where?" Willow asked, her eyes wide with confusion. She touched her face but didn't feel anything. She put down the milk, intending to use Mitchell's office restroom to clean up.
Just as she turned, Mitchell grabbed her wrist. She turned back and asked, "What's wrong, Mitchell? I'm going to the restroom to clean up."
Mitchell held her wrist firmly and said in a hoarse voice, "There is no need to go to the restroom. I'll help you."
Before Willow could react, Mitchell lowered his head and pressed his lips to hers, gently licking away the milk at the corner of her mouth.
After a moment, he let go and said with a smile, "All done."
Willow's face turned red, and her heart raced. She quickly turned and fled, saying, "I'll go back to work now."
Mitchell watched her leave with a smile on his face. He told to himself, 'The fresh milk is quite sweet.'
Willow ran down the stairs only to realize she had left her laptop in the conference room. She ran back up to get it and returned to her desk. When she opened her laptop, she saw over two hundred new messages in their dorm's Facebook group chat. The conversation stopped with Amanda's message: [Whether you're coming alone or with someone, just come early.]
Willow smiled and then remembered she had forgotten to ask Mitchell if he had time to go with her to the wedding. He had offered to book her flight and hotel when he heard she was going to Emerald Isle City for the wedding, but he had yet to mention going with her. She wondered if Mitchell was too busy or just not interested in going, making her conflicted.
She slowly scrolled back through the chat history. Lisa was single again; she had broken up with her boyfriend because he was too clingy. Karen had been going on blind dates, especially after turning 25. Her mom was so anxious that she wanted to set her up with someone every day. Despite going on more than ten dates, Karen hadn't found anyone suitable. She said she wasn't in a hurry to get married and wouldn't even consider it if her mom didn't nag her every day.
The group had been tagging Willow, but seeing no response, they assumed she was busy and went back to work.
After some thought, Willow posted a message in the Facebook group: [I'll be coming with someone.]
