Chapter 466 Marriage Fate
Rachel clearly remembered that Nicholas looked at her and said with a smile, "You need to eat too, don't you?"
After saying that, he went straight into the house, familiarly heading to the kitchen to start cooking. That night, Nicholas cooked a large array of dishes, mostly her favorites, and opened a bottle of wine. They drank and ate together, accidentally drinking too much. The next day, they woke up in the same bed, with clothes scattered all over the floor.
She remembered panicking and hiding in the bathroom, refusing to open the door. She only came out blushing after Nicholas left. She had some memory of that night; she remembered that she had initiated the kiss with Nicholas.
So she always believed that she couldn't blame Nicholas; she was mostly responsible.
A week later, Nicholas appeared in front of her looking very haggard, saying he wanted to talk about that night. She was terrified and ran away. Nicholas chased her upstairs, through the door, he said he wanted to be with her.
She was both happy and sad, wondering if he was saying this out of duty because of what happened between them. So she didn't agree right away. Later, when everyone went to the resort, Nicholas followed her there, and it was from that time that they confirmed their relationship.
Rachel, while reminiscing about their past, stared blankly at Nicholas, who was still asleep. His long eyelashes, a few strands of hair on his forehead, made him look very gentlemanly and gentle. His appearance was the type that girls in school would chase after, always polite and courteous.
He was indeed like that; being with him made her feel very comfortable and never awkward because he was always considerate of others and took care of their feelings.
Rachel's outward image of a strong woman was actually a facade. Deep down, she had some feelings of inferiority. After her father passed away unexpectedly, her mother raised her alone, so she matured early.
In college, she always worked part-time to support herself. Even though she had earned quite a bit of money by now, she still had a frugal nature and was reluctant to spend money.
Throughout her adolescence, she had never liked anyone. For a child from a poor family, liking someone was a luxury. When you haven't solved the problem of basic needs, you don't need such things.
It wasn't until she started working that she met her former college senior, Alfonso Johnson. She didn't expect that the interviewer at her first job interview after graduation would be Alfonso. Strictly speaking, she felt a spark in college, but it was quickly extinguished.
At that time, she joined the school choir and met Alfonso. She chose the choir purely because it had fewer activities and wouldn't interfere with her part-time jobs, and it didn't require extra money for materials. She didn't know why Alfonso chose to join the choir; maybe it was also because it had fewer activities. After all, a popular figure like him was quite busy.
They met a few times during choir activities and exchanged only a few words. Alfonso was always elegant but distant, not letting anyone get too close. Rachel was attracted to his aloof demeanor and gradually started paying attention to him.
That small spark was completely extinguished when she overheard Alfonso chatting with a friend.
A friend asked Alfonso, "Which girl in the choir do you think is the prettiest?"
Alfonso lowered his eyes, remained silent for a while, and then mentioned a girl's name. She was the acknowledged beauty of the choir, a girl from a wealthy family with fair skin and good looks. Rachel felt a bit disappointed when she heard this from the corner. It turned out that the aloof senior was just like everyone else. From then on, Rachel focused entirely on her studies and making money.
After graduation, she coincidentally became Alfonso's subordinate. She never had any inappropriate thoughts and now considered their relationship as friends. She learned a lot from him, and when he started his own business, she followed him because he made a very generous offer.
Later, when she met Madison, she resigned. When she left, Alfonso gave her a sum of money in the name of the company as compensation, which she insisted on not taking. So later, when they started their studio, Alfonso occasionally referred some clients to her.
Rachel didn't think much more, gently lifted the blanket, and prepared to get up. As soon as she sat up and slipped her feet into her slippers, a hoarse, familiar voice came from behind. Nicholas affectionately asked, "Are you awake? Does your head hurt?"
Rachel's body stiffened; meeting in such a situation felt a bit awkward.
She frantically nodded and then shook her head, not knowing which question to answer, and then rushed into the bathroom.
Nicholas also got up, changed clothes, and went straight to the kitchen.
When Rachel finished washing up and came out, Nicholas was in the kitchen making hangover soup. Seeing her come out, he invited her to sit at the table, where breakfast was already laid out—simple bread, jam and milk. They both got up late and didn't have time to make anything else.
Neither of them was picky about food, probably because they both grew up in ordinary families and didn't have many demands. After breakfast, Rachel had a bowl of hangover soup. It was already mid-December, and Christmas was not far away.
Seeing that she had almost finished eating, Nicholas took the initiative to ask, "Are you going back to Frostpine for Christmas this year?"
Rachel nodded and replied, "Yes." She went back to spend Christmas with Auntie every year, and this year would be no exception.
"When are you planning to go back?" Nicholas asked again.
"A week before the holiday. I'll let Madison know then," Rachel replied.
Nicholas nodded thoughtfully and then said, "After eating, go back to sleep for a while. Don't go to the studio today."
Rachel responded, opened her mouth as if to say something, but in the end, said nothing.
She actually wanted to ask if something really happened between them last night, but she felt too embarrassed to ask.
Nicholas had guessed from her expression in the morning that she misunderstood what happened last night, but he didn't plan to explain it. He realized that Rachel didn't seem to reject the idea. Maybe he had been overthinking and too nervous before; perhaps she didn't dislike it.
Moreover, he felt that they should take their relationship further. He also needed to clear his schedule a week before the holiday.
