Chapter 485 Returning to Frostpine

A week before the holiday, Rachel and Nicholas boarded their flight to Frostpine right on time. Nicholas had bought a ton of gifts, and Rachel was floored by the sheer amount.

"Isn't this too much?" she asked.

They were flying, not driving. How were they going to carry all this? It was definitely going to be overweight.

While packing, Nicholas just smiled. "It's not too much. I got everything based on the list of relatives."

Rachel then remembered Nicholas had asked her a few days ago which relatives they'd be visiting. She was touched. It meant a lot that he cared so much about meeting her family.

"I'll help you," Rachel said, squatting down to assist, smiling at Nicholas.

Nicholas turned to look at her, smiled, and nodded. "Okay."

After packing, not counting their personal clothes, the gifts alone filled two large suitcases. They planned to stay for nearly half a month, so after packing their clothes, they filled another two suitcases.

"If it's overweight, so be it. It's fine. We need to bring these; they're essential." After packing everything, Nicholas gently touched her head and said softly.

Rachel, who was initially worried and a bit annoyed by the four large suitcases, suddenly felt much better. She was impatient and easily irritable, but Nicholas was always calm and never a buzzkill. He completely eradicated Rachel's occasional irritability.

He was always a listener, a problem solver, and a supporter. Honestly, being with someone like that was very comfortable.

Before Rachel started a business with Madison, she had worked as an assistant to the boss in a company, having to take care of everything. She was always the one to comfort others and solve their problems, absorbing a lot of negative emotions and suppressing them inside.

When she decided to quit and start her own business, she felt incredibly relieved. Even though her boss then was her senior schoolmate and someone she once had a crush on, nothing could stop her from pursuing freedom and escaping it all. After starting the business, the initial pressure was still significant, and she was as serious about her work as ever, even more than before, which sometimes made her irritable.

However, since being with Nicholas, she hadn't been irritable for a long time.

A good partner could indeed change a person and make one better.

The two of them pushed the four suitcases and took a cab to the airport. Because they wanted to go back as soon as possible, they booked an early flight, and got up very early.

Nicholas booked first class, and after boarding, he let Rachel sleep first.

Rachel obediently leaned on his shoulder and quickly fell asleep.

Nicholas asked the flight attendant for a blanket to cover her. As for him, he wasn't sleepy at all. Despite his calm appearance, he was actually a bit nervous. It was his first time meeting his future mother-in-law and Rachel's relatives. He was worried about making a bad impression. He hoped to win over her mother and get her blessing.

Rachel woke up after about half an hour and saw Nicholas working on his laptop. "Nicholas, why didn't you get some sleep?"

"You're awake. Are you hungry? Want something to eat?" Nicholas closed his laptop and turned to her.

Rachel shook her head. "I'm not hungry. I'll eat later."

"We still have an hour before we reach Frostpine. Want to watch a movie?" Nicholas asked, reopening his laptop and pulling up the movies he had pre-downloaded.

Rachel's eyes lit up, and she leaned over. "You downloaded movies? What do you have?"

"Pick whatever you like," Nicholas said, turning the laptop towards her.

Rachel looked at the folder, which had six movies, mostly her favorite comedies and sci-fi films. She then asked, "Will it interrupt your work?"

After all, Nicholas had been looking at company documents earlier.

"No, I was just browsing," Nicholas smiled.

Rachel finally picked a comedy and started watching it with one earphone.

Nicholas smiled and put on the other to watch with her.

Before the movie ended, the plane was already above Frostpine.

Hearing the flight attendant's announcement, Rachel paused the movie and asked Nicholas to put away the laptop. She was excited and expectant, finally going home again.

Her home was about an hour and a half by cab from the airport. After getting their luggage, they took a cab directly home. As they got closer, her face lit up with joy, while Nicholas became more stiff, sitting motionless.

An hour and a half later, the cab stopped smoothly at Rachel's house.

Rachel saw Esme waiting at the door from a distance. When they got off the plane, Esme had called, so Rachel had guessed she would be waiting.

As soon as the car stopped, Rachel opened the door and ran over. "Mom, I'm back."

Esme hugged her for a while before letting go, smiling and looking her up and down. "You haven't lost weight this time. You've been eating well."

"I eat a lot now, I've even gained weight," Rachel replied with a smile.

"That's good. Don't lose weight," Esme said sternly, then kept glancing at the person standing behind Rachel.

Rachel noticed Esme's gaze, blushed, and turned to pull Nicholas over, introducing him softly, "Mom, this is Nicholas, my boyfriend."

Nicholas stood a bit awkwardly with the four suitcases behind them. He didn't want to interrupt their conversation, so he stood quietly. It wasn't until Rachel pulled him forward that he politely greeted, "Hello, Mrs. Johnson. I'm Nicholas Johnson. You can call me Nicholas. I'm Rachel's boyfriend."

Esme beamed at the two of them, warmly inviting them inside and helping with the suitcases, unable to hide her joy. "Nicholas, right? Come in, don't just stand there. I've already cooked, let's eat first."

Nicholas and Rachel pushed the suitcases and followed Esme into the house.
