Chapter 363 Jimmy's Mother Pays a Visit
Willow didn't know how Jimmy's mother found out where she worked, but the fact that she came specifically to see her must mean something was up.
"Mrs. Cox, are you looking for me for something?" Willow gently asked. Despite being well-dressed, Jimmy's mother didn't look well and seemed quite worn out.
'Could it be that something had happened to Jimmy?' Willow speculated in her mind and directly asked, "Has something happened to Jimmy?"
Jimmy's mother seemed a bit hesitant and finally said, "Are you on lunch break? Can I treat you to a meal?" Willow wasn't sure if something had happened to Jimmy, but her intuition told her that Jimmy's mother's visit must be related to him.
Considering the somewhat friendly relationship between the two families, and to find out what had happened to Jimmy, she would definitely go for this meal. However, Mitchell hadn't come down yet, and she needed to inform him first.
"Mrs. Cox, please wait for me. My boyfriend will be down soon; I just need to speak to him, and then we can go for a meal together," Willow said as she turned to look towards the elevator. Mitchell happened to walk out of the elevator at that moment. She waved at him, and he saw her, smiled back, and walked over.
Willow didn't notice Jimmy's mother stiffen when she mentioned "boyfriend."
"Mrs. Cox, please wait a moment." Then Willow walked towards Mitchell. Just as she reached Mitchell, he raised his hand to touch her head. "Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?"
The lobby was bustling with people at the moment. Perhaps due to the shocking photos taken, onlookers didn't find the interaction between Mitchell and Willow unusual anymore. It was just another public display of affection by the two.
Willow glanced back and then said to Mitchell, "Mitchell, I can't have lunch with you today." Mitchell immediately frowned upon hearing this. He had been looking forward to this day, so why the sudden change? He was unhappy. But he was also concerned if something was wrong, so he asked softly, "What's the matter?"
As he followed Willow's gaze behind her, he saw Jimmy's mother. Willow glanced back and said, "Jimmy's mother is here to see me. I'm not sure if it's about Jimmy. I'll go out for lunch with her to find out."
Upon hearing the name "Jimmy," Mitchell instinctively tightened his grip on Willow's hand and calmly said, "I'll go with you."
Willow was taken aback for a moment. "Okay, I'll talk to Mrs. Cox." She thought Mitchell might not like such a situation, dining with someone he didn't know well, but she was surprised when Mitchell volunteered to join. Willow walked hand in hand with Mitchell to Jimmy's mother.
"Mrs. Cox, this is my boyfriend. Can he join us for lunch?" Willow introduced Mitchell. It was the first time she had introduced him to someone else like this. Mitchell subtly raised the corners of his mouth, feeling pleased.
Jimmy's mother finally got a good look at Mitchell's appearance; he was tall and strikingly handsome, with captivating features and deep-set eyes that sparkled like stars when he looked at Willow. Jimmy's mother's gaze dimmed for a moment, then she smiled faintly. "Since he's your boyfriend, let's go together."
Jimmy's mother walked ahead, not in a good mood. Before coming to see Willow, she hadn't expected Willow to already have a boyfriend, and one who seemed quite outstanding. Willow and Mitchell followed behind, hand in hand. Mitchell lowered his head and whispered to her, "Why did Jimmy's mother come to see you?" There was a hint of jealousy in his tone. Willow pursed her lips innocently. "I really don't know." Mitchell raised his hand and gently pinched her nose. "Jimmy must still have feelings for you, sending his mom over."
"How is that possible?" Willow instinctively retorted. She hadn't even contacted Jimmy, and Mitchell was making wild guesses.
The three entered a not-so-crowded restaurant together. Jimmy's mother chose a corner table to avoid disturbances.
When it came to ordering, Jimmy's mother let Willow and Mitchell decide for themselves. She kept her head down, sipping water, seemingly with something difficult to say, unsure how to broach the topic. Seeing her hesitation, Willow asked, "Mrs. Cox, is Jimmy okay?"
Jimmy's mother put down her cup heavily, sighed deeply, and then slowly said, "Not really."
Mitchell, listening in, paused while pouring water for Willow, then continued as if nothing had happened. He quietly sat beside Willow, the picture of a devoted boyfriend.
Upon hearing this, Willow hurriedly asked, "Has something happened to Jimmy?"
Jimmy's mother glanced at Mitchell, then looked at Willow and said, "I came here today hoping you could go see Jimmy and talk some sense into him." She paused before continuing, "His father and I have always planned to send him abroad for further studies, perhaps to stay there. We have been gradually shifting our assets overseas these past few years, and his father's company has also been focusing on overseas development. Jimmy had agreed to this all along; it was a decision made by the whole family."
Willow thought it sounded good. Jimmy studied architecture, and the opportunity to further his studies abroad was a great one that most families couldn't afford. "That sounds great."
Jimmy's mother took a sip of water and continued, "It was supposed to be good. His father and I were looking forward to that day. But... recently, he suddenly said he didn't want to go abroad, that he wanted to stay in the country and find a job. This led to a big argument with his father. After the argument, he moved to stay at the school and didn't come home for quite some time."
Willow pondered. Before Jimmy confessed to her, there was a period when she hadn't seen much of him. So, had he been arguing with his family during that time?
At this point, Jimmy's mother seemed hesitant and paused for a long time before speaking again, "Later, I accidentally found a photo in his room, one that he had taken secretly. It was hidden deep in a drawer, and that's when I understood why he suddenly didn't want to go abroad."
Willow felt a bit nervous for some reason. So, Jimmy wasn't doing well because of her.
"Yes, that secretly taken photo was of you."
