Chapter 219 Rachel's Spring
Matthew and Madison were urged to go to work on Monday morning. Mr. Sterling and Mrs. Sterling volunteered to take Quentin and Hannah to school themselves. Since Dorian had nothing to do, he was put to use as their dedicated driver. He would drive them to school in the morning and then pick up Quentin and Hannah in the evening, carrying their parents.
Mr. Sterling and Mrs. Sterling felt like they were finally living the coveted life. Mrs. Sterling, despite her love for children, had never been able to conceive again after giving birth to Madison due to health reasons. She had been heartbroken for a long time when their daughter was taken away.
During that time, Mr. Sterling had a difficult time managing the company and searching for their daughter's whereabouts while also worrying about Mrs. Sterling's emotional state. Thankfully, they got through it.
In Pinecrest City, as they looked at their old friends in the big yard, they held their grandchildren in their arms. And in just a few years, they started lining up at the kindergarten gate to drop off and pick up their grandchildren.
However, Mrs. Sterling envied them and told Mr. Sterling she wanted to line up. Mr. Sterling sighed in response, as their son wasn't competent. But now their wish has finally come true. They can help their daughter drop off and pick up her children, line up at the school gate, and eagerly wait for each child to come out.
The Sterling couple woke up early in the morning and prepared a simple breakfast for the children. However, they were still afraid that something might go wrong, so they got up an hour earlier.
Madison took Matthew's car to the studio. Sinclair saw her walking in and greeted her, "Madison, you're here." Madison hadn't been to the studio for a while, and since everyone had taken the day off yesterday when she came, her colleagues were all happy to see her. They surrounded her, saying hello and greeting her. Madison didn't see Rachel and casually asked Sinclair, "Did Rachel go out today?"
"I don't think so. She said she had a meeting today," Sinclair replied.
"Oh, then she's probably stuck in traffic." Madison thought as she walked back to her office. Just as she walked in, Rachel hurriedly walked in, her face slightly flushed and breathing heavily.
"Rachel, you're here. Madison just asked if you were out today," Sinclair said while drinking milk and eating breakfast.
Rachel stood at the door and took a moment to catch her breath before asking, "Did Madison come?"
Sinclair nodded. "Yes, she just went back to her office."
"Rachel, did you go for a run this morning? Why is your face so red, and why are you out of breath?" Sinclair looked at Rachel as if she had just run 800 meters.
Rachel put her hands on her face, feeling a bit guilty, and asked, "Did... did it show?"
Sinclair nodded as she bit her straw.
"Oh, I didn't drive today. I walked from the bus station and was in a hurry," Rachel explained voluntarily. Sinclair just nodded; she had only asked casually and didn't expect Rachel to explain so much.
Rachel went to the restroom with her bag first. Looking at her blushing face in the mirror, she still had a shy look. She shook her head forcefully. What should she do? The talk about her being drunk and sleeping with Nicholas was about her. She couldn't tell Madison. It would be embarrassing and awkward. She decided not to think about it for now. She looked somewhat normal after using a wet tissue to wipe her face.
Suddenly, she remembered Nicholas insisting on driving her to work in the morning. She couldn't refuse but was worried about being seen by her colleagues at the studio, so she got off at the previous intersection and walked the rest of the way. Her blushing face was partially due to rushing, but the main reason was the kiss on her cheek before she got off. Thinking about that kiss, Rachel couldn't help but blush again.
This time, she lowered her head and washed it with cold water to calm down before touching up her makeup using the cosmetics in her bag. Then, she walked to Madison's office. The door was unlocked, and Madison was already working. Rachel knocked and stood at the door with a smile.
Madison looked up and was happy to see Rachel. "Rachel, you're here. I thought you were outside today," she said. Rachel walked in and casually picked up the blueprints on the desk. There were no new confirmed orders recently, and Madison was personally cutting and sewing. Who was she making clothes for?
"Madison, who is this outfit for?" Rachel asked curiously.
"Does it look good? It's for my mom," Madison explained with a smile. They're going back this Saturday, so I've been working hard recently."
Rachel was the first to know about Madison finding her biological parents and having a brother, so when she heard Sinclair say that Madison had come to the studio that day, she was a little surprised. When she had contacted Madison on the phone before, Madison said she probably wouldn't come for the next two weeks. It turned out she was preparing a gift for Auntie.
"It looks good. Auntie will love it," Rachel said. Madison's designs always had a unique and attractive aspect, and Rachel genuinely thought it looked good. It was simple yet elegant and had an air of luxury.
"Are the Sterling couple at home? Is Matthew also at work?" Rachel chatted with Madison as she helped hand over fabric and scissors, and Madison measured seriously.
"Yes, he went out to play all day on Saturday and was a bit tired. Yesterday, he played with the two children at home, and this morning, his parents got up early to cook breakfast and urged them to go to work. They insisted on picking up Quentin and Hannah. Matthew also went to the office."
"That's wonderful. Perhaps your uncle and aunt might also be looking forward to such happiness. It's important to remember that for every hardworking couple, there's often a set of grandparents or parents lending support. Haven't you noticed the number of grandfathers and grandmothers picking up their grandkids at the kindergarten gates? They're the unsung heroes for many dual-income families. But of course, this isn't something for you to worry about. Given Matthew's financial stability, these concerns are minor," Rachel, who hailed from a modest background, offered her insight with clarity.
"How do you know so much?"
"Hehe, even though we work with high-end brands and take a high-end route, it's still important to understand the common living situations of the general public, isn't it?"
The two chatted casually when Madison's phone, placed on the table, rang. She put down the scissors and ruler and walked over to pick up her phone; it was a long-lost call. Madison immediately pressed the answer button. "Nicholas."
