Chapter 522 Mr. Jonah is Here
The commotion had already drawn the attention of others in the café.
Savannah deliberately played the victim, apologizing profusely as if she were the one who had coffee spilled all over her.
Willow looked at her crying pitifully, thinking maybe it wasn't intentional.
However, she kept a cold expression, turned around, and prepared to leave. She planned to go to Mitchell's office lounge to change out of her dirty clothes; the coffee had soaked her completely, and it was quite uncomfortable.
As she was about to leave, Elizabeth had no intention of letting Savannah off the hook. She walked slowly towards Savannah, who was still pretending on the ground, as if gathering some kind of strength.
Willow tugged at her sleeve and whispered, "Elizabeth."
Elizabeth glanced back at her, gave her a reassuring look, and then continued towards Savannah.
No one present even had time to react or see Elizabeth's move clearly.
She struck swiftly and accurately, giving Savannah no chance to dodge or respond. She raised her hand and delivered a hard slap to Savannah's face.
The slap was so forceful that Savannah's cheek quickly swelled and reddened.
The café fell silent; Savannah's pretentious apologies and the murmurs of the crowd ceased instantly.
After hitting Savannah, Elizabeth turned her head and saw their manager standing nearby, dumbfounded.
The usually kind and smiling middle-aged manager was clearly shocked by Elizabeth's slap.
Savannah also saw the manager standing there and began to scream, "Elizabeth, who gives you the right to hit me?"
She got up from the ground, seemingly ready to pounce on Elizabeth, but was held back by Jenny.
Savannah intended to provoke Elizabeth, thinking the worst that could happen was a verbal lashing, which would be enough to get Elizabeth reprimanded. She never expected that Elizabeth would dare to hit her in such a public setting at the company. Having never encountered such a situation, she was now determined to fight back.
Jenny kept holding her, and the project manager shook off his reverie and returned to his senses. He adopted a leadership demeanor, cleared his throat, and asked, "What's going on between you two?"
Savannah quickly answered first, "I don't know why Elizabeth hit me. I accidentally spilled coffee on her friend's clothes. It wasn't intentional, and I already apologized. Her friend didn't even say anything, but Elizabeth just slapped me. Look at my swollen face."
She cried as she spoke, her half-swollen face making her look pitiful.
The project manager frowned slightly as he listened. He knew Elizabeth well enough to know she wasn't usually unreasonable.
She was typically cheerful and outgoing in the office. Why would she hit an intern today?
He turned to Elizabeth and asked again, "What's your side of the story?"
At this point, Willow was blocked by the crowd, so the manager didn't see her and didn't know that the friend Savannah mentioned was Willow.
Elizabeth didn't even bother to lift her eyelids. She had hit her, and there was nothing more to say. She replied curtly, "My hand slipped, it was an accident."
Savannah became agitated upon hearing this and pointed to her swollen face for everyone to see. She ranted angrily, "Look at this! Does this look like an accident? Is this unintentional?"
She had made up her mind not to let this slap go unpunished. Everyone had seen Elizabeth hit her, and her swollen face was the best evidence. She wanted to escalate the situation and get Elizabeth fired.
The manager initially wanted to hear Elizabeth's explanation. He liked her; she was competent, proactive and had been with JK for several years. He intended to mediate the conflict and give Elizabeth a minor punishment, letting the matter pass. After all, hitting someone in a public company setting could be a big deal, potentially leading to termination.
However, Elizabeth was so stubborn and aloof, and Savannah wouldn't let it go. It was a difficult situation for him to handle publicly.
Willow, standing behind the crowd, observed that the manager was still reasonable and hadn't been swayed by Savannah. She thought that if the manager were easily influenced by an intern, JK wouldn't have put him in his current position.
The manager was known for his kindness, and the project team hadn't had any interns in the past two years. The few interns they had before were diligent workers, unlike Savannah, who always tried to stir up trouble and take shortcuts. Now everyone had seen her true colors.
With one person remaining silent and the other crying and demanding a resolution, Willow considered explaining the situation to the manager.
The café had surveillance cameras, and they could check if Savannah had intentionally spilled the coffee.
The manager also planned to take the two of them back to the office.
The café was full of colleagues from other departments, and internal conflicts would become a laughingstock. It would not only embarrass him but also Mitchell. He needed to get them out of there quickly.
At that moment, a group of people entered the café.
The leader, dressed in a suit, exuded an imposing aura, with features more striking than any current celebrity, with an added sense of authority.
When Willow saw the person leading the group, she thought, 'Why does he have to come to the café now? This is going to escalate things.'
The group had been in a meeting and came down for a break.
The project manager had come to buy coffee for the other project executives but got caught up in the situation with Elizabeth and Savannah.
He had sent a Facebook message to a colleague in the meeting room to come down and get the coffee, saying he had something to handle.
Mitchell, remembering that Willow had mentioned wanting to have a small cake at the café in the afternoon, suggested they all go to the café during the break instead of sending one person. So, the entire meeting group came down.
Mitchell led the group into the café, and everyone's attention shifted to them.
He immediately looked for Willow but didn't see her. Instead, he saw a crowd gathered around the café's sofa area, not knowing what was happening. He led the group over, and the onlookers automatically made way for them.
Seeing Mitchell arrive, Savannah felt even more emboldened. She was secretly pleased, thinking Elizabeth would surely be fired this time. She put on her most pitiful expression, tears streaming down her face.
Mitchell didn't see Willow, and immediately felt displeased. He thought Willow might have gone back to his office lounge to rest. He wanted to quickly finish the meeting and work so he could find his wife and take her home.
