Chapter 196 Stayed
Madison stood still, overwhelmed by the sudden shift from agony to ecstasy. It felt like she was soaring in heaven after being in the depths of hell just moments ago. Immersed in immense happiness, she could scarcely believe it.
Carefully, she inquired, "Matthew, you... you're not going back with Bella, right?"
Witnessing her apprehensive look, Matthew's heart ached for her, and he nodded vigorously. "Yeah, I'm not leaving. Didn't you say you're my wife? Wherever you go, I'll follow."
Overwhelmed with emotion, Madison cried and laughed simultaneously, finding solace in Matthew's embrace as tears of joy streamed down her face.
Once Madison had calmed down, Matthew located a hairdryer and began to blow-dry her hair gently on a warm, low setting. Madison's thick hair always took a while to dry completely. In the past, she would often stop halfway through, but since Matthew found out, he would assist her in finishing the task.
In the tranquil atmosphere of the room, filled only with the hum of the hairdryer, Matthew ran his fingers through Madison's soft black locks, a sense of familiarity washing over him. "I used to dry your hair often, didn't I?" he remarked.
Excitedly, Madison turned to face him. "Matthew, did you remember something just now?"
He switched off the hairdryer. "It felt very familiar just now, drying your hair. It feels like I've done this before."
Affirming his recollection, Madison nodded. "Yeah, I used to be lazy and not dry my hair completely, so you'd always finish drying it for me." Now, she was confident that Matthew would soon recall everything from before as soon as they returned to Horizon City.
Observing the joy in Madison's expression, Matthew couldn't help but smile. He resumed drying her hair until it was completely dry before switching off the hairdryer.
Glancing at the clock, Matthew realized it was late. He suggested that Madison should rest, preparing to take his leave. Reluctantly, Madison accompanied him to the door, debating whether to ask him to stay without appearing too forward given his . Even though they were husband and wife and had a child together, Matthew's memory loss meant he couldn't remember any of it at the moment.
As they reached the front door, Madison bid him "Goodnight."
Suddenly, Matthew turned back, asking, "After we get back to Horizon City, are we going to live together?"
Taken aback, Madison stuttered, "Yes... yes, of course."
"Then staying together tonight shouldn't be a problem," Matthew stated casually, closing the door behind him as he returned inside. As a married couple, sharing a bed seemed only natural to him.
Processing the sudden turn of events, Madison sat on the bed as Matthew headed for the bathroom. She listened to the sound of running water, her face flushed with nerves and anticipation.
When Matthew emerged from the bathroom, still in his robe with damp hair, Madison was still sitting on the edge of the bed. "Why aren't you asleep yet?"
Meeting his gaze, Madison quickly slid under the covers when she saw his exposed tanned chest and wet hair, feeling overwhelmed with shyness. "I'm going to sleep now."
Matthew chuckled at Madison's bashful behavior, finding her shyness both charming and endearing. After drying his hair in the bathroom, he returned to find Madison apparently asleep with her eyes closed. Assuming she was already asleep, he quietly climbed into bed from the other side. Turning off the lights, he settled down, and the room was soon filled with the sound of steady breathing. Only then did Madison open her eyes in the darkness, shifting slightly to face Matthew.
'Goodnight, Matthew,' she thought, feeling content.
Both slept soundly that night, experiencing a deep slumber they hadn't enjoyed in a long time. However, in the morning, there was a hint of awkwardness lingering in the air.
Upon waking up, they found themselves naturally entangled. Madison was holding onto Matthew with both arms and legs, while his arm was draped around her neck, pulling her close. Blushing, they greeted each other good morning and decided to order breakfast to enjoy in their room. As they finished their meal, they realized it was time to bid farewell to Bella. Madison expressed her desire to join Matthew, wanting to personally thank Bella for her help.
"I'd like to come with you, Matthew," she said, reaching for his hand.
Matthew, holding her hand in return, agreed, "Okay."
As they were about to leave, they opened the door and were surprised to find Dorian and Victor standing outside, seemingly about to knock.
All four individuals stood frozen, exchanging startled glances in silence.
Dorian was the first to snap out of it. He eyed Madison with a suggestive look. "What is he doing in your room? Did you two spend the night together?" He couldn't believe Madison's guts—it was like she managed to lure even her amnesiac husband into bed.
His implication embarrassed Madison, who felt that as a married couple, sharing a bed shouldn't be questioned.
Victor raised an eyebrow, his gaze holding a deeper significance, while Matthew, holding Madison's hand firmly, retorted, "Is it any of your business?"
Dorian, visibly agitated, was restrained by Victor, who then turned to Madison with a serious expression, "Madison, the cruise ship with Bella is about to leave, and Matthew he..."
Unaware of Matthew's decision to stay, Victor and Dorian were caught off guard. Madison eagerly shared the news, her face beaming with joy, "Matthew's not leaving. He's going back to Horizon City with us. We're just here to see Bella off."
Victor, giving Matthew a sidelong glance, tentatively asked, "Matthew... do you remember anything?"
Madison shook her head and then quickly added, "I believe he will remember."
Victor didn't continue the conversation, and even Dorian seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, realizing they had nearly made a mistake. "You could've told us earlier; we were almost ready to take him away by force."
Matthew frowned upon hearing his comment, doubting that Dorian could be Madison's brother—they didn't seem alike at all.
With the decision made, Victor went to arrange their plane tickets home, while Dorian mentioned his need to travel to Rome for a transfer document. Their mission completed, he would return to work in Suncrest Heights. Holding hands, Matthew and Madison headed toward the docks.
On the cruise ship's deck, Bella observed as Matthew and Madison approached, hand in hand. Beside her, a tall man with long hair remarked, "You made the right choice."
Proudly, Bella affirmed, "Of course, I did. When have I ever chosen wrongly?"
The man smiled but remained silent, turning back toward the ship's cabin. Stepping off the ship, Bella joined Matthew and Madison on the dock.
"Now you have the chance to choose again," Bella said with a hint of jest, looking at the couple before her. She couldn't deny they made a perfect match.
