Chapter 307 Confession

After hanging up the phone with Willow, Daniel walked through the doors of the activity center. Since it was evening, although the center was lit up, few people were around. Willow walked inside and didn't see Jimmy anywhere. She took out her phone, intending to call him, when a beam of light suddenly lit up on the stage, shining on a grand piano. Jimmy, dressed in a suit, sat in front of the piano, a departure from his usual carefree demeanor.

Music filled the air, and Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" played as Jimmy sang and played the piano. His deep, magnetic voice echoed around, likely causing a frenzy among the school girls if they had witnessed the scene.

It was Willow's first time hearing Jimmy sing, and she was surprised to see him play the piano. Truth be told, he sang well, and Willow stood at a distance, listening to the entire song.

After finishing the song, Jimmy produced a bouquet of roses from somewhere and walked down the stage, step by step, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth as he approached Willow.

Willow, upon seeing the roses, belatedly realized that something was amiss. She stood there, feeling a sudden urge to escape. Jimmy reached her, offering the flowers, and with a smile, said, "Willow, these are for you."

Willow stood still, not reaching out to take them. "Why suddenly give me flowers?" she asked, pretending not to understand his intentions.

Jimmy self-deprecatingly smiled, "I thought I had made myself pretty clear."

Without a word, Willow glanced around, avoiding Jimmy's eyes. "I have something to attend to. Let's talk about this another day," she said. Willow instinctively wanted to flee, not wanting to hear Jimmy's confession. She valued their friendship and knew what Jimmy wanted to say, even if she was slow to catch on. Some things, once spoken, could ruin a friendship.

As Willow turned to leave, Jimmy grabbed her arm. His smile faded, replaced by a serious expression. "This needs to be said today," he insisted. Jimmy had waited a long time for this moment, eagerly anticipating Willow's return to Horizon City. The thought of Willow being out with Mitchell had made him anxious, almost desperate to find their location and rush over. He had spent the past few days either busy with this plan or waiting outside her apartment. When he saw Mitchell bringing her back that morning, he had wanted to approach them but restrained himself, opting to invite her to school instead.

To stay in Horizon City, in the city where she lived, he had confronted his parents, refusing to study abroad. He couldn't give up on someone he had held in his heart since childhood.

Knowing she had gone to the beach with someone else had worried him greatly, fearing he might be too late. Fortunately, they hadn't seized the opportunity, and now he wasn't going to let go.

"Willow, I like you," Jimmy said, looking deeply into her eyes, offering the bouquet of roses once more, awaiting her response.

Willow looked at the flowers, finally saying, "I'm sorry."

Jimmy chuckled, "Can you tell me why?"

Willow hesitated, "I'm sorry, I'm not looking to be in a relationship right now."

"Is it that you don't want to be in a relationship, or you don't want to be in a relationship with me?" Jimmy asked with a bitter smile.

Willow remained silent, prompting Jimmy to nod to himself. "Understood. You should go now. I need some time alone," he said, letting Willow leave.

Watching him walk away, Willow couldn't help but worry. "Are you okay?" she asked.

Jimmy looked back, "If I said I needed you, would you stay with me?"

Willow looked conflicted, but before she could refuse, Jimmy interjected, "Go back quickly. I won't walk you home today." With that, he turned and headed back toward the stage. Willow watched his lonely figure before finally turning and leaving the activity center.

Throughout her life, she hadn't cared much for material things or other possessions, willing to compromise on anything except the person she wanted to spend her life with. She was content to be alone if that person wasn't meant to be.

Exiting the activity center, Willow returned to the field. By now, most students had retired to their dorms, leaving the campus quiet. Finding a corner, she lay down directly on the grass.

The stars were particularly bright tonight, twinkling in the dark sky like little eyes. After lying there for about fifteen minutes, feeling a slight chill in the air, Willow got up from the grass, ready to head back. Following the dim lampposts, she made her way toward the school gate.

Mitchell, dressed in pajamas and slippers, his hair still damp, had driven recklessly from home to the university. He hadn't even stopped the car properly before rushing inside. Due to the haste, he had left his phone behind, making it impossible to call Willow. With several entrances and a large area at the university, he wasn't sure if Willow was still there. He aimlessly searched the entire campus, regretting not bringing his phone. Catching his breath, he wondered if she had already gone back, then straightened up, planning to head to her apartment.

As he raised his head, he saw a familiar figure standing under a yellow streetlight not far away. Mitchell's heart just calmed down and began to race wildly.

Willow walked slowly toward the entrance, her head down, almost no one in sight, only the dim lights accompanying her. Suddenly, she felt a scorching gaze ahead. Stopping under the streetlight, she looked up and froze in place.

How could Mitchell be here?

Separated by two streetlights, their eyes met, and it felt like an electric current passed between them, connecting them in an instant.

Looking at the person so close to him, Mitchell took three quick steps and stood in front of Willow. She looked up at him, her eyes seeming to spark like fire. Before she could speak, Mitchell wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close, while his other hand gently cradled the back of her head. Then, with lightning speed, he captured Willow's slightly parted lips in a decisive kiss.
