Chapter 141 Interrogation, Confrontation

Matthew ignored Brianna's excuses and stated the facts, "You gave Madison the drugged Red wine and even prepared a room for her to be taken away. Isn't that right?"

Brianna denied it, pleading with tears, "Matthew, believe me, I didn't do it. You believe me. I don't know that person. Please let me go."

"Enough, stop acting. No one here is interested in watching."

Matthew cut her off indifferently and then turned to the others, "Bring him in."

"I never falsely accuse anyone. I hope you can be just as certain later that you've done nothing and beg me for forgiveness."

Brianna stumbled back several steps before collapsing onto the bed in the dimly lit room.

Feeling utterly desolate, she knew the older man Matthew was bringing in was the one from that night. If she had been caught, then the one who defiled Madison would surely face a worse fate. How could Matthew ever let him off?

About five minutes later, Victor personally escorted the older man in. He was no longer able to stand, being dragged in by two people, naked as he was when taken, with his eyes closed as if he were unconscious.

Brianna turned her head to witness this scene and began to tremble uncontrollably as if profoundly shocked or frightened of meeting the same fate.

Matthew glanced coldly at the man on the floor as if not to soil his eyes and quickly looked away. "Wake him up."

Victor signaled his men to fetch a bucket of cold water, which they then poured over the man on the floor.

The jolt of cold water slowly roused the older man from his stupor. He instinctively raised his arms to shield his eyes from the harsh light and shrank back into a corner after realizing his surroundings, continuously begging, "Not me, it wasn't me, please let me go, I beg you."

He knelt on the ground, banging his head in a desperate plea for mercy. He deeply regretted following that woman's suggestion to mess with Matthew's associate, only to end up trapped in this godforsaken place, enduring unbearable torment of both body and mind.

"Look up. Is this woman the one who gave you the room key that night?" Matthew asked coldly, standing next to the man.
The old man slowly raised his head, and when he caught sight of Brianna, he burst into laughter, "It's her, it's really her. She even told me Mrs. Nelson was just someone you were keeping on the side, that you didn't care about her at all." The moment the older man saw Brianna, it was as if he had found his scapegoat. He hadn't expected Matthew to have brought this woman in, and he yelled out everything about Brianna approaching him that night, embellishing the details wildly.

He hadn't anticipated that the damn woman he had been talking to that night, who was allegedly being kept by Matthew, was actually Mrs. Nelson. Only after he was captured and locked up did he hear the people talking. He never imagined he would have tangled with Matthew's wife, and now he could only pray that he'd make it out alive.

Brianna was trembling all over, her mouth still refusing to admit the truth. "Matthew, Matthew, don't believe him. I don't know him, I really don't. He's framing me. That's right, he's looking for a scapegoat to set me up."

Brianna threw herself to the floor, grabbing at Matthew's pant leg, crying her heart out.

Matthew watched her display with cold detachment.

"Matthew, Matthew, believe me, it was this woman who gave me the room card. She even said she'd drugged it." Seeing that Brianna refused to confess, the older man also knelt, pleading for understanding.

Matthew kicked him away and then had him taken out.

Victor escorted the man away, and only Brianna and Matthew were left in the dark room. Brianna thought things were the same as before, that her tears would make him let her hold on to him, shed his icy demeanor, and look at her tenderly.

He couldn't be that heartless. He had to forgive her and must have believed what she said.

Matthew pulled his leg away from Brianna's grasp, and his indifference was like daggers on Brianna's skin, leaving her feeling ice cold. She was just jealous of Madison. Why should everything change when she returns? Why should she be the one to have Matthew?

What's so wrong with wanting to have the person you like?

"Matthew, can you forgive me just once?" Brianna continued to beg.

"Forgive? Didn't you say you did nothing? If nothing was done, then there was nothing to forgive." Matthew retorted coldly, raising an eyebrow.

Brianna was taken aback, then she froze.

Matthew continued, unfazed. "There's no question of forgiveness. You're just like any stranger on the street, even though you won't admit it. But the reality is that you did what you did, Brianna. It's over between us. I made it clear to you when Madison returned when I was planning to remarry her and spend the rest of my life with her. Why? Why are you still trying to harm her?"
His voice wasn't particularly loud, just dispassionate and more frigid than before, numb to any emotional range. Brianna could only see indifference and a heartless disconnection in his eyes.

Brianna couldn't grasp the situation. He had once divorced her, so why was he treating her this way for Madison now?

"You clearly don't love Madison. It was only because of your grandfather that you married her. It was only after she bore you two children that you..."

"Who told you I don't love Madison? Do you think I'm the kind of person to be manipulated?" Matthew scoffed.

Brianna burst into hysterical laughter. "If you loved her, why did you divorce her in the first place? Aren't you just a manipulative bastard who wants it all?"

"If that's what you want to think, I can do nothing to stop you." He didn't care what Brianna said.

Mathew turned to leave.

From behind, Brianna spoke deliberately, "That old man has tainted Madison. Do you still want her?"

Matthew paused, his back still to Brianna. "I love her, just as I always have, and nothing will change that, not even if she's been dishonored. It's my fault for not protecting her."

"Heh, aren't you biased? I met you first, fell for you first, and we were in love once. What's with this deep affection act for me now?"

"What happened between us doesn't justify your harming Madison." Matthew turned sharply, and his expression darkened. "I won't keep you locked up. The outside world, with its temptations, must be alluring for you. That feeling of being put on a pedestal, the adoration, you must enjoy it. I want you to be humiliated, never able to recover your reputation."
