Chapter 491 Moody
As Madison's due date approached, she became the focus of the entire family's protection. Matthew stayed by her side constantly, only leaving for essential errands.
Throughout her pregnancy, she had an easy time—minimal morning sickness, and her skin remained radiant and glowing. However, in the later stages, her temper became quite volatile. Matthew even wondered if his wife had been swapped or if something was wrong, prompting him to consult the doctor. The doctor explained that hormonal changes could affect a pregnant woman's mood and that pre-birth anxiety was common, advising the family to be understanding and supportive.
He was relieved to hear that there were no physical issues and returned home to continue pampering her, constantly reminding Quentin and Hannah not to disturb Madison's rest.
The two kids seemed to sense that Madison has changed recently. Hannah even quietly asked Matthew, "Daddy, will my mommy go back to normal?"
Matthew gently tapped her little nose and smiled warmly. "Of course she will. Once the baby is born, your mommy will be back to normal."
"It must be the baby in my mommy's tummy being too naughty, that's why she is like this," Hannah concluded, blaming the unborn baby, whether it was a boy or girl.
"Yes, when the baby comes out, we'll scold it together." Matthew agreed, shaking hands with Hannah to seal the deal.
Tonight, after dinner, the family sat together. Madison, Matthew and William accompanied Quentin and Hannah to watch a few episodes of cartoons. When it was time to rest, William urged them to go to bed early.
Madison held the two kids' hands as they went upstairs, tucking them into bed one by one and saying goodnight, with Matthew following behind.
First, they went to Hannah's room. Once inside, Hannah whispered to Quentin, "Quentin, the baby must be good today because mommy didn't get angry."
Madison and Matthew curiously watched the siblings whispering. Matthew squatted down and asked, "What are you two sharing? Can you tell me?"
Hannah leaned in and told him too. Matthew was momentarily stunned, glanced at Madison, and nodded. Madison, even more curious, asked what they were talking about. Hannah mischievously said it was a secret, and Quentin shook his head with a smile.
After tucking the kids into bed, Madison was still curious.
Matthew whispered in her ear, "Hannah said she loves us very much."
Madison tilted her head and asked, "Really?"
She seemed skeptical.
"Of course it's true. Hannah is growing up and getting shy, so she doesn't say it out loud," Matthew said righteously, leading Madison back to their room.
He initially thought the baby was indeed well-behaved today, but when he came out of the bathroom after a shower, he found Madison sitting on the bed, tears streaming down her face as she held her phone. Panicking, he threw aside his towel and rushed to her.
"Honey, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Do we need to go to the hospital? Don't cry; it breaks my heart," he anxiously asked while wiping her tears.
"What happened? Who upset you?" he continued to coax her gently.
Madison didn't know what was wrong either. She had just seen Rachel's Stories with the snowman and suddenly felt extremely aggrieved, unable to stop her tears.
She hadn't seen snow this year.
Matthew held her in his arms, soothing her softly. After a while, Madison finally calmed down, her tear-streaked face blushing as she buried her head in Matthew's chest, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Honey, I'm sorry. I don't know what's wrong with me lately. I keep getting like this," Madison said, her voice getting smaller. She realized her emotions had been all over the place recently, easily crying and getting angry, but she couldn't help it.
Matthew chuckled softly, realizing she was aware of her recent mood swings.
"It's okay. I asked the doctor, and he said it's due to hormonal imbalances from pregnancy. It's normal, and it will get better after the baby is born." He gently patted Madison's back, comforting her.
"So why were you crying just now? Can you tell me?" Matthew asked, trying to guide her to share the reason for her sadness. He noticed that there was always a reason behind her outbursts or tears, even if she didn't pay much attention to them before. Now, he could better understand what she cared about and her thoughts.
Madison was embarrassed but softly said it was because she hadn't seen snow.
Matthew was momentarily stunned but quickly responded, "After the baby is born, I'll take you to see the snow, okay?"
"Okay," Madison replied obediently.
"Do Quentin and Hannah think I'm too grumpy? Will they stop liking me?" she asked softly, still buried in Matthew's chest.
"No, Quentin and Hannah know it's not your fault. It's the baby in your tummy making you like this," he continued to comfort her.
"Really?" Madison looked up, her eyes still red, her tears now all over his pajamas.
Matthew looked at her tenderly, his voice hoarse. "Yes. Be good and go to sleep. I'll go change my clothes."
He helped Madison lie down and was about to get up when she grabbed his shirt, looking at him with her watery eyes. "Come back soon."
"Be good, you sleep first. I think I need to take another shower," Matthew said with a helpless smile.
"Why?" Madison asked, her big eyes still confused.
Matthew pointed to the tent in his trousers. "What do you think, honey?"
Madison immediately understood, quickly pulling her hand back and saying, "I'm going to sleep."
Then, she closed her eyes.
Matthew stood up, smiling. He remembered the doctor's words clearly and didn't dare to act otherwise.
