Chapter 267 Men's Conversation
Willow was also a bit upset and said, "Well, suit yourself," before hanging up. She didn't answer when Jimmy called again, and she didn't reply to his messages on Facebook either.
Mitchell was more concerned about anything related to Mitchell. She naively believed that Jimmy didn't want Mitchell's help because he didn't trust Mitchell's professional expertise.
As Jimmy looked at the unanswered phone calls and unanswered Facebook messages, he frowned and played with his phone for a while before finally dialing Willow's number.
Just as Mitchell had finished taking a shower and stepped out, he heard his phone ring. Walking to the edge of the bed, he picked up the phone and saw an unknown number. After answering, he recognized the familiar voice on the other end.
Jimmy's tone was no longer as gentle as it was in front of Willow. Now, he sounded more like a man challenging another man.
"President Jonah, this is Jimmy." Jimmy's arrogant voice said from the phone. Mitchell's gaze slightly darkened, and his voice calmly replied, "I know."
"I won't bother you with the thesis anymore. I can handle it myself," Jimmy said, standing on the balcony of his dorm room. Outside, it was pitch black, as if everything was hidden in the darkness, except for his little plan to have Willow edit his thesis.
"You sure you can handle it yourself, Jimmy?" Mitchell asked casually. He glanced briefly at Jimmy's thesis, which was filled with intentionally incorrect professional knowledge and theoretical basis and conveniently missing practical information. It looked like a childish game, only good enough to deceive someone like Willow.
"President Jonah just had to ask that, didn't you? If your level wasn't immediately apparent, then your photo wouldn't be hanging in the school display room all the time," Jimmy retorted with youthful arrogance. "But I believe that's going to change this year."
"Is that so? It's just a photo. I've never really cared about it," Mitchell replied calmly, as if he had never considered Jimmy as his equal.
Hearing Mitchell's indifferent tone, as if he was unworthy of being compared to him, Jimmy grew annoyed. "President Jonah is indeed magnanimous. Let's wait and see. And I hope President Jonah won't play any tricks and that Willow won't say anything extra. Let there be fair competition."
Mitchell's hand, resting by his side, quietly clenched into a fist, tightly gripping it. Despite his calm demeanor, he said, "Jimmy, it would be better if you stop playing any tricks as well."
"Agreed."
Jimmy hung up the phone, looking at the bright moon and countless stars in the sky. He remembered the day when he took Willow to the mountaintop to stargaze, tightly clutching his phone. How could he let someone else take away the person he liked?
In school, he got to know Willow, the two people that Mr. Ward often mentioned. One was Mitchell, and the other was Willow. One made him worry, while the other made him feel at ease. Similarly famous, when Mr. Ward mentioned her, he would always say, "The young girl is very beautiful, but she struggles in her studies." Later, he saw her photo in Mr. Ward's office, and the only thought in his mind was, "Indeed beautiful." So when he saw her at the barbecue restaurant near the school gate, he recognized her at first sight.
Mitchell's reputation was not only within their architecture department but in the entire A University. Who wouldn't know him? There was no need to go to a display room. Mitchell used to be his idol, and he believed that all architecture students treated Mitchell as their idol. He had never imagined that one day, he would become Mitchell's rival for Willow's affection.
Sometimes, a man's intuition and observation could be even more accurate than a woman's. At first sight of Mitchell, he sensed both Mitchell's hostility toward him and his possessiveness toward Willow. What else could a man's possessiveness toward a woman be other than love? However, he realizes that Willow seems oblivious, always considering Mitchell to be his brother. It appeared that she couldn't see what he could see at a glance. Therefore, he felt both fortunate and smug because now he had a chance.
Mitchell stared at his phone and immediately noticed that Jimmy had impure motives. He didn't expect this kid to be so clever and figure out his thoughts. There was a reason why they didn't see eye to eye. He laughed at himself, feeling unconfident, competing fairly with a young and handsome rival at his age.
Originally, Madison had planned to stay in Emerald Isle City for three or four days, accompany her grandparents, and then take the two kids to the beach. She didn't expect there to be so many people in their family and such a great atmosphere. Everyone was warm and welcoming. Aside from the family gathering on the first day, they had guests visiting their homes every day or were invited to other people's homes. Their days were packed. So, their family stayed in Emerald Isle City for a whole week. The two kids had so much fun in Emerald Isle City that they forgot about going to the beach. They even took videos and sent them to their great-grandfather, godmother, and auntie, completely forgetting about their original plan.
After Hank returned to Emerald Isle City, he reported to his office the next day and immediately got busy. Madison noticed that she had less time with him in the city. Even Quentin and Hannah asked why they hadn't seen their uncle every day.
On the day they left, Father Howard, Mother Howard, and Hank all went to the airport to see them off. Hank specifically took half a day off to be there. Mother Howard held Quentin and Hannah tightly, and it was hard for both sides to part. Matthew picked up Hannah and let her say goodbye to her grandparents and uncle. Young Girl burst into tears, saying that she wanted to go with her grandparents and uncle. This also made Mother Howard teary-eyed, turning away and wiping her tears constantly.
Madison comforted her daughter softly, but Hannah kept crying. Matthew had no idea how to calm her down, so in the end, Hank took her aside and whispered a few words to her. Only then did Hannah stop crying and start smiling. They held hands, not telling anyone about the secret they shared, claiming it was just their little secret.
Though reluctant, the family of four bid farewell to their grandparents and uncle and entered the boarding gate. Mother Howard stood on her tiptoes, wiping her tears and waving her hand continuously until she couldn't see Madison and her family anymore. She kept turning back to look before finally leaving the airport.
Once inside, Madison also kept turning back and couldn't stop herself from looking back. Only where her parents couldn't see, she released her emotions and her eyes turned red. Matthew held her hand and said, "Let's make more time to visit them in the future."
Madison vigorously nodded. Although she knew she would come back frequently and meet everyone often, the feeling of separation was still heartbreaking.
