Chapter94Explanation

At the gala, when Madison saw Matthew coming out of the VIP room with Brianna holding onto his arm, deeply engrossed in conversation, she didn't stick around. Rachel joined her, having secured the contacts they needed, and they left the event.

Matthew floored the gas pedal, speeding all the way to New River Gardens, even arriving before Madison and her companions.

When Rachel's car stopped, Madison instantly noticed Matthew's Rolls-Royce, along with the man who had recently been at the gala, now standing by the vehicle.

Remembering Brianna's actions at the event and the fight she saw, Madison got out of the car without looking at Matthew and headed straight for the apartment entrance.

Matthew watched the young woman's indifferent demeanor toward him and reached out to grasp her arm. They stood in silence, locked in a stalemate, neither speaking.

Rachel, having sensed Madison's foul mood back at the gala and her subsequent silence on the drive home, realized the source of the trouble was now in plain sight. "Madison, why don't you have a chat with Matthew? I'll head up," she suggested before dashing off.

After Rachel left, Madison finally spoke in a cold tone, "Let go. I need to get back."

"What did Brianna say to you at the gala today?"

Matthew hadn't expected to see Madison at the gala that evening, let alone Brianna.

The look on Madison's face was a clear sign of anger. Brian mentioned that Brianna had sought her out for a chat. Could it be something Brianna said?

Tired and disinterested in the situation, Madison didn't care about fighting Matthew's grip. Despite her efforts to free her arm, Matthew's hold remained strong and unyielding.

Observing the young woman before him, her entire being radiating rejection, he realized he had to clarify things tonight.

Noting her thin evening gown, he decisively pulled her into the back seat of his car, followed by himself, and locked the doors.

Madison fought desperately to get out, but the man before her remained calm, allowing her to struggle until exhausted. She finally sat quietly in the car, waiting to see what he intended to do.

Seeing that Madison had ceased her struggles, Matthew held onto her hand as if worried she might flee, then began to speak softly in explanation.

"I didn't go to the gala with Brianna tonight. I went straight to the private room as soon as I arrived. Brian said he saw you outside, so I was about to come out and find you, but Brianna caught me. When I turned back, you were gone, so I rushed back here in the car," Matthew recounted straightforwardly.

Madison responded dully, "The nature of our relationship right now means you don't owe me any explanations. You're free to be with whoever you want. It has nothing to do with me."

Matthew fumed at Madison's icy tone, frustration seeping into his voice as he said, "How can you say it doesn't concern you? I ditched a multi-million-dollar deal to come here and explain myself to you, and you act like it's irrelevant."

"I never asked you to come."

Madison was confused and angry. Brianna's taunting and argument made it hard for her to control her irritation, so she ended up giving Matthew the cold shoulder.

For the first time in his life, Matthew found himself on the wrong side of a woman's temper—Madison had always been gentle and agreeable, nothing like the fierce retort he was facing today.

Suddenly, at a loss, he wasn't sure how to convince her that his relationship with Brianna was truly over.

He sighed and continued, "Madison, I know my past with Brianna might still bother you, but I need you to trust me. Please don't use this as a reason to push me away, okay?"

Madison stared at the ground, silently refusing to respond. Matthew felt that he had said all that needed to be told and offered all the explanations he could.

Sitting in silence, Madison's discomfort stemmed from her insecurities. Despite Matthew's intentions, Brianna's presence made her doubt his genuine affection for her. It felt more like a sacrifice for the sake of Quentin Garcia and Hannah Garcia.

The car's cramped space grew warmer—the heat turned up high when Matthew, concerned Madison might catch a cold, had cranked it up after they got in.

A flush crept over Madison's cheeks while Matthew, in his suit, felt increasingly overheated.

He wanted to open a window, but the woman beside him, clearly still upset, hadn't taken in a single word of his attempt at peace.

Out of nowhere, a friend's advice surfaced in his mind, "When all else fails, just go for it."

He looked closely at the woman in the white evening gown nearby, noting her slender waist, long legs, and fair skin. Her makeup highlighted her beauty, with ruby lips and pearly teeth. He couldn't help but fixate on her slightly pouted lips, tempting him to taste them.

Madison felt his intense gaze and instinctively attempted to shift away.

But Matthew, his reactions outpacing his thoughts, moved swiftly.

He held the back of her head, pulling her close. Leaning down, he kissed her tenderly yet with authority, savoring her like a precious gem. Their breaths mingled as passion flared. Taking advantage of her surprised silence, he intensified the kiss, passion, and desire intertwining.

The kiss came like a tempest, catching Madison utterly off guard. Her mind exploded into whiteness, forgetting all about resisting.

Matthew was sure she was his undoing every time they touched. He became like a reckless youth out of control. He kissed her fervently, his hands slowly trailing downward, grazing the softness of her chest.

Madison, dressed in a gown with only pasties, felt his intense touch penetrate through the thin fabric, sparking a fire that snapped her back to reality. Reacting swiftly, she forcefully pushed the man away.

In the heat of the struggle, Matthew released her lips, easing his grip with evident restraint.

Madison was somewhat frightened by the desire she spotted lurking in Matthew's eyes.

"What... what are you doing... why'd you do that all of a sudden?"

Matthew took Madison's hand and gently pulled it down, his voice hoarse as he said, "I want you."
