Chapter 266 Refusing to Help
Willow thought Mitchell was here to interrogate her, so she immediately explained, "I wasn't too busy at work this morning, so I thought I could consolidate my theoretical knowledge by revising a paper. Mitchell, don't worry; no one has found out. They all think I was writing a proposal."
Mitchell got up to get a bowl and served her a bowl of soup in front of her. His expression couldn't tell whether he was angry or not. Willow kept her head down, feeling like her explanation was more like a defense with no confidence at all.
Mitchell put down his utensils and said to Willow, "Drink the soup and later have some cough syrup." Willow picked up the bowl and drank more than half of the soup in one gulp. It tasted good.
After seeing her finish the soup, Mitchell continued with their previous topic and directly asked, "Why are you helping Jimmy revise his paper?"
Willow looked foolishly at Mitchell and honestly explained, "Jimmy's grandmother's house is next to my grandmother's house. We used to play together when we were kids, but after my grandmother passed away, I never went back there again. Recently, my mom returned to clean up some things and ran into Jimmy and his mother. My mom called and asked me to take care of my little brother. And coincidentally, he is also in the architecture department at A University."
"Okay, if he's your little brother, then you should take care of him more. I helped him revise his paper, so let him contact me directly." Mitchell's expression visibly changed from being a little gloomy at first to now having a smirk on his face. Willow felt a bit magical, a bit unbelievable, so she confirmed again with a skeptical attitude, "Really? Mitchell, are you really willing to help Jimmy revise his paper and graduation project?"
Mitchell nodded. "When have I ever lied to you?"
After getting Mitchell's promise, Willow finally felt a weight off her shoulders and wanted to clap her hands in excitement. Actually, she felt a bit pressured to help Jimmy revise his paper, mainly because she had experienced Mr. Ward's strictness before. She was really worried about messing it up, but now that Mitchell was taking care of it, she felt really relaxed. Willow immediately took out her phone and sent a message to Jimmy on Facebook.
Willow sent Mitchell's phone number to Jimmy after waiting for an immediate response. She then put her phone away and had lunch in Mitchell's office, along with some cough syrup. Mitchell even insisted that she take a half-hour nap in his break room before returning to her own office.
In the afternoon, Willow contacted several collaborating units and made a few phone calls. Time seemed to fly by, and she only realized it was time to leave when she saw everyone starting to pack up. She turned off her computer, stood up, and began tidying up her things to prepare for the end of the workday. Elizabeth Wolf asked if she wanted to see a movie that evening, but Willow declined, using her cold as an excuse. Instead, Elizabeth Wolf made plans to go with another young girl from the office.
Just as Willow finished packing up her things and was about to take the elevator, the door to the stairwell suddenly swung open, and Mitchell walked out.
"Mitchell, you're still here? Are you looking for a manager? I think he has already left." Willow assumed that Mitchell was looking for the project manager and proactively explained this to him.
Mitchell walked straight over to Willow. "Are you leaving work?" Willow nodded in confusion. It was already time to leave, and she had finished packing up her things. Did Mitchell want her to stay and work overtime? That would certainly make her unhappy.
As Willow was still wondering why Mitchell had come over, she heard him say, "Shall we go? I'll take you home."
"Huh?" Willow was still dazed and hadn't reacted yet. Mitchell tilted his mouth slightly and looked at her with a doting expression. "You don't have a car, right? That's why I'll take you home."
Willow followed Mitchell to the elevator and went down to the basement garage. "Mitchell, you're not working overtime today?" she asked.
Mitchell nodded. "No, not today. I'm taking a break."
After the two got into the car, Mitchell sat in the driver's seat and didn't start the vehicle. Unable to hold it in, Willow asked, "What's wrong, Mitchell?"
Mitchell turned his head and asked, "Do you want to have dinner before returning? How about the Baked Macaroni from last time?" He looked at Willow expectantly.
Willow tilted her head, thinking for a moment before replying, "Sure." After all, there wasn't much food at home, and she didn't feel like cooking. It would be nice to eat before going back.
So, Mitchell drove, and the two of them went to the same Baked Macaroni restaurant they had been to before, where they had Baked Macaroni and octopus balls before heading back. Mitchell dropped Willow off at her apartment building. After Willow got out of the car, she waved at Mitchell, "Mitchell, I'm heading up. Drive safely."
Mitchell nodded, "All right, don't forget to bring me the milk tomorrow."
"Got it, okay." Willow didn't expect Mitchell to still remember the milk from this morning. Didn't she give him the remaining half bag? Mitchell felt a bit off today, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what was wrong. As she watched Mitchell's car slowly drive away, Willow shook her head. Oh well, she thought. She didn't want to dwell on it. Mitchell was probably craving milk.
As soon as Willow opened the door to her apartment, she received a call from Jimmy. When she answered the call, she heard Jimmy getting straight to the point, "Is that divine being you mentioned, Mitchell?"
"How did you know?" Willow wondered how Jimmy knew she was referring to Mitchell as the divine being. She didn't remember mentioning anything related to Mitchell in front of him.
"I told you I visited the school's historical exhibition room in the library. Silly." Jimmy teased, "Sis, I remember you being so smart and good at studies when you were young. Why are you acting clueless now?"
"You're the clueless one!" Willow retorted. She then recalled mentioning the exhibition room to him last time, where there were photos of outstanding past graduates. Mitchell's photo always hung prominently there. He had been the epitome of excellence at A University, even now receiving invitations from the school every year to come back and give speeches. Due to the busy JK Group business, he attended less frequently in the past few years. He politely declined the principal, saying he lacked new ideas each year, and suggested the school invite other outstanding alums.
"If it's President Jonah, then forget it. I don't need his help." Jimmy directly refused.
"Why?" Willow couldn't understand. Mitchell's skills were far superior to his. Wouldn't it be better for Mitchell to help him revise? This person was really strange.
"No reason, I just don't need his help." Jimmy refused again.
