Chapter 287 Restoring Memories (2)
Madison's tears welled up instantly at Matthew's words. She choked, "Matthew, you remember? Everything?"
Matthew carefully wiped her tears, his eyes full of tenderness. "Darling, don't cry. I remember it all."
Matthew woke before dawn, a splitting headache overwhelming him. It felt as if a rush of information flooded his mind, causing intense pain. After a few minutes, he passed out. When he woke again, the sun had risen. Slowly sitting up, he saw Madison sleeping peacefully by his side and Son on another bed. Their daughter was on the sofa, her thin blanket kicked to the floor. Matthew gently covered her, but as he turned, he saw Son was awake, rubbing his eyes, calling out, "Dad."
A rush of emotions flooded Matthew as he approached Son's bed. "Do you want to sleep a little longer, Quentin?"
Son shook his head. "I'm awake, Dad."
"Then go freshen up. Can you manage on your own?"
Son nodded and headed to the bathroom.
Matthew returned to his bed, carefully placing Madison back and tucking her in. Seeing her exhausted state, his heart ached. He sat by her side, watching her sleep.
Yes, at that moment of awakening, his memories had returned. He recalled everything that happened in Rome—following Hank to K's hideout, the ancient villa with no external connections. Hank getting shot, Brianna taking a bullet for her, handing him a USB drive. The police arrived, K escaped, and he chased her. The yacht exploded just as it set off. He remembered falling into the sea, severely injured, and being rescued by a passing yacht.
Now, waking up with Madison and their two children by his side, he felt nothing but gratitude. He was grateful to be alive. The time he had lost with them due to his memory loss had always felt disjointed. But he had a deep-seated feeling that, despite not remembering anything, there were memories etched in his bones. That familiarity made him recognize Madison at first sight, and he unconditionally believed her when she said he had a wife and children.
The reunion of the family was undoubtedly a happy and exciting moment. But he was cautious because he had forgotten them. Madison had always been grateful, never expecting him to regain his memory. She would often say, "I'm just glad you're alive." He, too, felt that it didn't matter whether he regained his memory or not as long as they were together, living happily. But when the children mentioned some happy moments from the past, and he couldn't recall anything, he felt a sense of loss, as if he had let down his two children and Madison.
He used to not believe in fate, thinking that he could change anything through his own efforts. But because of this accident, he chose to believe. He was grateful that he had regained his memory and remembered everything.
After waking up, he went to see a doctor and explained his previous situation. The doctor took new X-rays for him. The blood clot that had compressed his nerves had indeed shifted position due to this impact, and it had broken up. The doctor said the blood clot had broken into several smaller pieces that were gradually absorbed. There shouldn't be any problems now. He would have another X-ray in six months to see if the blood clot had been completely absorbed. And his recovery of memory indicated that everything was going well.
Finally, Matthew was able to let go. He, who had once been indifferent to life and death, now cherished life because of someone special. He hoped to live longer and be with them for a longer time.
Matthew gently patted Madison's back. "It's okay, no more tears. Thank you, Madison, for being there all along."
Madison nestled in Matthew's embrace, too embarrassed to let the two little ones see her tears. She muffled her voice in his chest, "I'm just so happy."
Quentin and Hannah stood by Madison, tugging at her clothes, their curious eyes fixed on their mother in their father's arms, still unaware of what had happened.
Hannah tilted her head and asked Matthew, "Daddy, what's wrong with Mommy?"
Before Matthew could answer, Quentin, with a worried look, also looked at Madison and asked, "Daddy, is Mommy crying?"
Matthew's voice was gentle as he whispered to Madison, "Madison, it's okay, no more tears. If you keep crying, the two little ones will really think I've bullied you."
Madison rubbed her eyes and nose on Matthew's shirt, then got up from his embrace, and with a smile through her tears, she looked at the two little ones. "I'm fine, I'm just so happy."
The two little ones still seemed a bit incredulous, looking up at their parents. "Really?"
Matthew smiled helplessly, raising his hands on purpose, and said, "What? You don't believe me? I really didn't bully Madison."
Madison wiped away her tears, crouched down, and hugged Quentin and Hannah. "I'm really fine. I'm just so happy. We're finally reunited as a family."
In Madison's heart, Matthew regaining his memory. No matter the happy or sad experiences from the past, all of it was their precious memories. So she felt that now, they were truly a reunited family.
The family of four held hands and went to complete the discharge procedures, heading back to the hotel first. In the morning, Madison received a message from Willow on Facebook, saying that she and Mitchell were ready to board the plane. Since Matthew was confirmed to be fine, and Willow and the others had already arrived, they decided to wait at the hotel.
On the way, Matthew asked, "Willow came with Mitchell?"
Madison nodded, "Yes, Willow called me last night when she heard that you and Quentin were both in the hospital. She was worried and felt that I couldn't handle it alone, so she said she would come. I thought she was coming alone, but I received a message from her this morning saying that Mitchell came with her." Madison explained to Matthew.
"Willow came alone, and Mitchell must be worried. Willow has always been by Mitchell's side since she was little, and Mitchell takes care of her even more than I do." Matthew said.
