Chapter 503 His Nickname Is Joy
The day after Madison gave birth, she and the baby settled into their private hospital room. The place was nice, and Matthew had hired a postpartum nurse to help out.
Early in the morning, William brought the two kids to the hospital. Valerie had told him Madison's water broke in the middle of the night, so he rushed over with the kids.
Madison, despite being a bit weak, was in good spirits and could walk the next day since it was a natural birth. But Matthew didn't want her walking too much, even though the doctor said it would help her recover.
When William and the kids arrived, Madison had just taken a few steps before Matthew carried her back to bed. The kids ran in and jumped onto the bed.
"Mom, we're here!" Hannah shouted, running to Madison's side.
Quentin looked around. "Mom, where's the baby?"
Matthew and the nurse were giving the baby a bath, so Madison was alone. Just then, they came in with the baby's crib.
William, walking slower, met them at the door.
"The baby's back," Madison told Quentin with a smile.
Quentin turned and saw his dad and great-grandfather, with his dad pushing a small crib. Inside was a beautiful baby with closed eyes. Both he and Hannah gathered around.
"The baby is so cute," Hannah said. "Quentin, isn't he cute?" she asked.
Quentin nodded, staring at the baby. "Yes, very cute."
He stood on tiptoe and gently touched the baby's hand. To his surprise, the baby grabbed his finger tightly.
He laughed. "Dad, Mom, Great-Grandpa, look, the baby is holding my hand."
William quickly walked over, and Matthew turned to see the baby holding Quentin's finger. The scene was heartwarming.
The nurse smiled. "This baby is so well-behaved, didn't cry at all during the bath. Other babies cry a lot."
"Really? Quentin and Hannah used to cry," Madison said with a smile.
Matthew added, "He's just lazy, always sleeping. Only wakes up to eat and then goes back to sleep, didn't even open his eyes during the bath."
"Sounds just like you when you were a baby," William laughed.
"If the baby is like Dad, then Quentin and I are like Mom," Hannah said, smiling. She stood on tiptoe to touch the baby's hand, and the baby grabbed her finger too.
Holding both siblings' fingers, the baby looked very loving.
Hannah, with her finger held by the baby, exclaimed, "The baby is holding my hand too, look."
Madison, looking at her three children, smiled. "It seems the baby really likes his brother and sister."
Everyone in the room laughed.
Later, Victor and Mitchell came to see Madison and the baby. Willow, dealing with severe morning sickness, stayed home, but everyone else came.
Ophelia also came by, bringing baby clothes and a toy gift box. She came alone, straight from a filming location. Thanks to the hospital's good security, her visit didn't cause a stir.
Madison's room was spacious, a suite with a kitchen, making it easy to cook. It was big enough for everyone to fit comfortably.
People arrived one after another, greeting Madison, Matthew, and William before gathering around the baby's crib.
The baby woke up just as everyone arrived, looking adorable and even blowing bubbles.
Ophelia and Danielle were filled with maternal love.
Even Patrick couldn't help but gush about how cute the baby was, saying he wanted to get married and have one himself.
When asked about the baby's name, Madison said, "His nickname is Joy, but we haven't decided on a full name yet."
She hoped Joy would always be happy.
They initially had wanted William to name him, but he said they should pick a name they liked. So, the full name was still undecided, but they agreed the baby would take Matthew's last name. William and Matthew didn't mind, and William even said it would be fine if the baby took Madison's last name, but Madison insisted on Nelson.
Everyone didn't stay long, knowing Madison needed rest. When the nurse picked up the baby for Madison to feed, they all left.
William took Quentin and Hannah with him, even though the kids wanted to stay with their mom. Matthew eventually persuaded them to go with William.
Matthew stayed at the hospital to take care of Madison. The doctor said she could be discharged in about a week. They planned to go straight home after that, and if the nurse and Valerie couldn't handle everything, they'd hire another nanny. Other postpartum services could be done at home, so she could be with her family without being disturbed.
In the afternoon, Willow video-called Madison from home to see Joy.
Madison, surprised by Willow's severe morning sickness, advised her to rest well. They didn't talk long because Madison, having just given birth, shouldn't look at her phone for too long, one of the things the nurse had mentioned, which were taken to heart by Matthew and carried out diligently.
In the evening, the nurse prepared dinner for Madison.
After she finished eating and everything was cleaned up, Matthew let the nurse go home.
There were two beds in the room, one for Madison and one for the patient's companion.
Matthew stayed at the hospital to take care of her, so the nurse didn't need to stay overnight.
After the nurse left, Madison fed the baby and asked Matthew to put the baby back in his crib.
It was Matthew's first time holding the baby, as the nurse had been doing it before.
He tried several positions but was hesitant to move. The baby looked so delicate, and he was worried about hurting him with the wrong move or too much force.
