Chapter 479 Congratulations
At the end of each year, the JK Group was actually at its busiest. Departmental summary meetings were held back-to-back, and Matthew and his team were almost always in the conference room from morning till night.
Additionally, they had to prepare for the company's annual meeting, making the President's Office extremely busy.
On top of that, there were small gatherings within departments and invitations from external partners, which usually included Matthew and his team. So, social engagements increased towards the end of the year.
For internal company gatherings, everyone knew the boss's wife was pregnant, so they generally didn't bother Matthew. However, for a major external partner's invitation, they had to attend. But only someone like Matthew, who had a pregnant wife at home, could just show up, say hello and leave. Victor and Mitchell had to stay behind to socialize.
Mitchell was busy with social engagements and dinners every day, and Willow wasn't idle either. The project department was doing year-end settlements, and she had several projects to follow up on, all of which required comparing actual expenses with the initial budget and doing analyses.
Her department had been working overtime almost every day recently. She and Mitchell hadn't had dinner together for several days. Fortunately, Willow had Elizabeth to keep her company during overtime. The two of them were almost always the last to leave, usually ordering takeout for dinner to save time.
Elizabeth joked, "Ms. Jonah works so hard, we have no reason not to work hard too."
After nearly a week of continuous overtime, tonight they ordered Mexican food. Elizabeth ordered medium spicy, as per their usual preference. Willow took a couple of bites and found it too spicy, so she got up to get some water. "Why is this so spicy today, Elizabeth? Did you order extra spicy?"
"No, it's medium spicy, just like you usually like it. No problem," Elizabeth said as she checked the order on her phone and compared it with the delivery receipt. "No mistake."
She took a piece of potato from Willow's bowl. She remarked,"Let me try yours. It tastes normal to me, just like we usually have."
She chewed the potato. Elizabeth added, "It's not spicy at all, even milder than what you usually eat."
Willow had a big gulp of water, not convinced, and tried another piece, still finding it too spicy. She ended up rinsing her food with water before eating.
Elizabeth watched her in surprise. She curiously remarked, "Willow, how has your taste changed so much? This little bit of spice used to be nothing for you. Have you stopped eating spicy food since being with Mr. Jonah?"
Willow found it odd too. Although Mitchell didn't eat much spicy food, they didn't completely avoid it. He would consider her taste when cooking and add some spice. They also had Mexican food when dining out. He was very accommodating in this regard.
Maybe the recent overtime had caused some internal heat, making her unable to handle spicy food. Willow didn't think much of it and continued eating, planning to buy some bread from the convenience store downstairs later.
After dinner, she continued to check the data with Elizabeth for another hour. When she looked up, it was almost nine o'clock. They decided to pack up and continue the next day. While packing and shutting down her computer, Willow asked Elizabeth, "Is it easy for you to get a cab this late? Otherwise, I can give you a ride."
"No need, there are plenty of cars at the entrance. I just ordered one on my phone, and someone accepted it immediately. You should go home and rest early," Elizabeth suggested and smiled, standing up with her bag.
"Okay," Willow said, standing up with her bag. As soon as she stood up, she felt dizzy and blacked out, falling to the ground.
Elizabeth quickly caught her, shouting in panic, " Willow."
She urgently called security and an ambulance to take Willow to the hospital, following along with sweaty palms and a heart in her throat. As soon as Willow arrived at the hospital, the doctor took her in.
Elizabeth heard Willow's phone ringing in her bag, displaying 'Honey.'
Elizabeth answered without hesitation, feeling like she had found a lifeline. She had been too panicked to think of contacting Mitchell. Before he could speak, she hurriedly said, "Mr. Jonah, this is Elizabeth. You need to come quickly. Willow suddenly fainted. We're at the City Center Hospital."
Mitchell was at a dinner meeting with Patrick, who was handling negotiations while Mitchell was eager to go home to Willow. But since the other party was a major project partner for the year, it wasn't appropriate to leave early.
Taking a break to go to the restroom, he called Willow from the end of the hallway. Hearing Elizabeth answer and say Willow had fainted, he rushed back to the room, grabbed his coat and car keys, and dashed out like a whirlwind.
The people in the room were stunned, still holding their glasses.
Someone asked, "Did Mr. Jonah just come in and leave?"
Patrick snapped out of it, realizing Mitchell must have had an emergency. He smiled and said, "Let's continue. Mr. Jonah had something urgent to attend to. I'll stay and drink with you."
The room, filled with half-drunk people, became lively again.
Mitchell rushed out of the hotel. Fortunately, he had mentioned he was preparing for a baby, so he hadn't drunk any alcohol. He sped to the hospital, taking only fifteen minutes to arrive to his destination. Parking haphazardly, he ran up the stairs and finally found the detailed address Elizabeth had given him.
Seeing him, Elizabeth approached. She greeted him, "Mr. Jonah."
Mitchell was about to ask what happened when the doctor who had examined Willow came out. He rushed to the doctor, grabbing his arm, eyes red and breathing heavily, looking disheveled. His voice trembled. "Doctor, what's wrong with my wife? Why did she faint?"
The doctor smiled and said, "Congratulations, your wife fainted because she's pregnant."
Mitchell was stunned, standing there in complete shock.
