Chapter 138 Acknowledging the Relationship

The chat erupted with laughter.
【Hahaha! Big John, why be born with such a fierce face if you're harmless?】
【Big John: Is it my fault that I look intimidating?】
【Is it just me or is that guy ugly but really tall... maybe six foot three?】
【Who is this guy, anyway?】

Only Big John understood the intense aura of fear emanating from Myron Curtis, penetrating right to his core.
He hastened to clarify.
"I—uh, my name's Big John. Huge fan of Luann here!" he stammered.
"She tweeted about coming to the race today. I commented right away."
Fans flocked to me, hoping I could fire up a live stream for some interaction with their idol!
Luann Weaver poked her head from behind Myron Curtis upon hearing this.
She glanced at the phone held aloft before turning to Big John.
To pick out her among the crowd must have taken considerable effort.
And she had noticed that comment before but hadn't given it much thought.
"Hey there!"
Luann greeted him.
Big John was momentarily stunned, then his face contorted into a smile of joy so intense
He reached out his hand, then, feeling it was sweaty, he nervously wiped it on his pants. As he was about to retract his hand out of embarrassment about its dirtiness,
Luann had already grasped his hand
"Go... Goddess... hello..."
Big John, towering at nearly six feet three inches, found himself at a loss for words. He lowered his phone to a better angle for Luann to chat with everyone watching.
"Hello, everyone!"
[Ahhhh! It's Luann]
[I've never worked so hard to fan over someone!]
A sheepish smile crossed Luann's face, "I'm sorry, I've been a bit busy with personal stuff recently, so I've not been interacting with you all on Twitter. I'll find some time to do a live session later, thanks for your support."
[You're too kind!]
[Who's that guy behind you? A bodyguard?]
[That dude is so plain-looking...]
Taking advantage of his height, Myron Curtis could clearly see the comments on the screen.
Myron glanced over at Luann's back unintentionally.
With his current looks, it wasn't really his place to ask Luann to acknowledge their relationship in front of a crowd.
After all, Luann had become quite the internet sensation.
Grabbing his phone to take a look, Myron wasn't surprised to see the surge of conversation topics about Luann's live stream on Twitter reaching a frenzied pace.
A frown formed on Luann's brow as she read the comments, her tone gentle yet firm.
"Let's not call anyone ugly, okay? No one wants to look like this."
[Judging someone's appearances... not cool.]
[I was accidentally burnt when I was young, still carry the scar on my arm. Can't even wear short sleeves in summer; I'm that self-conscious... I really don't like hearing comments about how 'ugly' scars are.]
[Sorry, I won't say it again. It was thoughtless of me... apologies...]
"It's okay," Luann assured them.
"And for the record, he's not my bodyguard. He's my husband."
The air was still for a split second.
Everyone in the live stream, including Big John and Myron Curtis, were frozen in shock.

Myron Curtis was the most astonished of all, his pupils constricting drastically from the surprise.

He realized that this petite woman was preserving his dignity in front of everyone.

She could have totally ignored those comments or remained unresponsive..

Big John was the first to stutter out a question, "Luann, are you married?"

Luann Weaver nodded unabashedly, "Yes, I've been married for over a month now."

[My gosh... I'm heartbroken...]

[Man, I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around this.]

The fans on the other side of their phones and computers let their hands fall to their keyboards, at a loss for words.

They had assumed someone as outstanding as Luann Weaver would certainly opt for a rising star.

Not this man.

[Though we haven't seen what he looks like, I bet he's got to be better looking than this guy.]

[Alright, enough with that. Let's just send our best wishes! I trust Luann's judgement; she wouldn't make a mistake!]

[Exactly! If this guy is good enough for Luann to marry, he must have some special qualities that aren't immediately visible. Let's not get hung up on appearances.]

After exchanging a few more words with a pleasant smile, Luann handed the phone back to Big John.

Big John temporarily ended the live stream and asked Luann, "Goddess, where are you seated? I've got some great seats in the main stands with a phenomenal view! You can take mine!"

"I'm supposed to be there too."

"Really?! Let's head over together then!"

The trio found their seats, which were actually quite close to each other.

As Luann was about to sit down, Big John whisked out a wet wipe from his pocket, carefully cleaning the chair for her.

"Please, take a seat."

After a brief pause, and noticing Myron Curtis's icy glare, Big John whispered, "I... I don't mean anything by this, don't get the wrong idea."

Myron Curtis just hummed indifferently.

Deep down, he understood that Luann had many fans.

Sooner or later, he would have to witness a scene like this.

He couldn't afford to be... too jealous.

Yet, Myron's grip tightened, his hands subtly trembling.

"Luann, wait here for me!"

With that, Big John dashed off, only to return promptly with a large bag in his hand.

"We'll have something to munch on during the game!"

Luann was momentarily stunned, "This... it's too much."

Big John grinned, "Not at all! It's from all the tips I got; my viewers wanted me to treat you, it's a gesture from them!"

Luann responded warmly, "Then I'm truly thankful to all of you."
Luann Weaver chuckled as she grabbed the offered package.

Big John let out an audible sigh of relief, fixing an amicable gaze on Luann.

Caught in the middle was Myron Curtis, finding Big John's unabated stare somewhat intrusive.

Just as Myron was about to interject, the loudspeakers boomed to life, detailing the event's agenda and listing the contestants.

The massive screen flickered before stabilizing, displaying photos and names of several participants.

"The following participants who have yet to check in—Holly Weiss, Luann Weaver, Charlie, and two others—are requested to report backstage immediately."

Hearing her name, Luann nonchalantly continued to unwrap her snack. In a city this size, having a common name wasn't unusual.

But then came Big John's astonished exclamation, "Goddess, you're in the competition?!"

"Not that I recall."

"Look at the screen! It's your picture!"

Startled, Luann lifted her eyes and there it was—her own face on the big screen.

She was flabbergasted.
