Chapter 194 What’s the Relationship

Three days earlier...

Adolph and Benjamin returned from ditching Myron Curtis and his crew, intent on quietly healing their wounds.

“I’m thirsty,” Adolph murmured.

Benjamin set aside the tablet he had been using to go through documents and hurriedly grabbed the lukewarm water from the nightstand. He helped Adolph up and gently fed him some water.

After drinking, Adolph smacked his lips contentedly.

“Now I’m hungry,” he declared.

Benjamin stood and instructed someone to prepare a meal.

Once Adolph had eaten his fill, he added, “I kind of feel like having some fruit.”

Benjamin settled on the edge of the bed and began peeling an apple for him.

“The peak of summer is the perfect time for watermelon. Why are we having apples?” Adolph protested from under a thin blanket, his head the only thing visible.

The room was air-conditioned and deliciously cool.

Benjamin hurried off to buy watermelon.

“My tablet stand seems a bit crooked. Can you adjust it?” Adolph asked, burrowed under the blanket.

With a resigned sigh, Benjamin adjusted the stand for him.

Adolph expressed his contentment with no hint of a patient’s suffering. “It’s pretty nice to be fussed over after an injury.”

The corner of Benjamin’s mouth twitched. He found Adolph peculiarly adept at finding joy in misery. “Maybe you should focus on how to use the bathroom.”

Adolph contemplated briefly, Then a sly smile crept across his face. “Maybe a bottle?”

“What if you need to do more than pee?” Benjamin prodded.

“Just give me the apple instead... If I have too much watermelon, I’ll run to the toilet.”

Benjamin sliced the apple into little pieces.

Adolph nodded in approval. “This apple is not bad.”

Benjamin was at a loss for words.

Just then, a piercing alarm suddenly blared.

Benjamin and Adolph froze in unison.

As Benjamin was about to press the emergency button, the door was kicked in.

A man wearing an intricate mask entered.

Benjamin’s pupils dilated. The man had found them?! How was he so fast? Barely an hour had passed!

“You need to take care of that injury properly,” the masked man said.

Myron Curtis stepped forward and subtly signaled with his fingertips.

The people behind him immediately severed all the networks in the room.

“No more drama for you,” he said.

Adolph watched Myron and curved his lips into a mocking smile. “It’ll be boring without my shows. Are you going to keep me company?”

“I’ll have someone download any TV series you want,” Myron said detachedly.

P“Oh, thanks a lot,” Adolph replied dryly.

Benjamin’s back stiffened, and his hand pressed discreetly behind him.

But he realized he couldn’t get through to anyone on the phone!

Myron’s sharp gaze swept over him, icy and intense, “You shouldn’t bother with Pthat.”

Benjamin’s mouth twisted in frustration.

Damn it.

Could this guy have installed some kind of signal blocker nearby?

“Take him away.”

Before Benjamin could process what was happening, he was being muscled out by a few guys.

Now, only Myron and Adolph were left in the room.

Myron stepped forward purposefully, stopping by the side of the bed. An icy chill that would send shivers down anyone’s spine radiated from him.

“What’s your connection to Luann Weaver?” Myron asked, his voice revealing a curiosity he couldn’t quite hide.

Arching an eyebrow, Adolph met his gaze. “You didn’t go to all this trouble just to ask me that, did you?”

Myron’s eyes were hidden behind a mask, dark and unfathomable, brimming with an ominous intent.

A silent threat pulsed in the air.

“And I’m curious,” Adolph drawled, “what’s it to you? What’s your relationship with Luann Weaver?”

“Lover? Paramour?”

Myron leaned in suddenly, his large hand gripping Adolph’s throat. A suffocating sensation enveloped them.

Adolph’s face turned red with discomfort.

“Don’t think I didn’t give you a chance to explain yourself.” The words that left Myron’s lips were cold as ice, and he seemed like a Grim Reaper that had stepped right out of hell.

Adolph swallowed painfully under the crushing hold of Myron’s palm.

“What are you afraid of?” Myron hissed. “Afraid I’ll tell Luann... hmm?”

With great difficulty, Adolph forced the words out.

Myron’s eyes narrowed, and slowly, he released his grip.

Adolph started to cough painfully, feeling a searing pain in his chest where his ribs had been broken, the discomfort so intense it caused his eyes to roll back in pain.

“You’ve got quite the grip,” Adolph managed to say between coughs.

Myron watched him, his face expressionless.

“Don’t worry, I’m not an idiot. Our little secret won’t reach Luann,” Adolph assured him, his voice strained. “Knowing too much can be a bad thing.”

“Answer my question,” Myron commanded coldly.

“Mmm,” Adolph hummed slowly as if deliberately trying to provoke him. “We’re close. So close that no one else can come between us.”

Myron’s eyes flashed with murderous intent as if he were ready to tear Adolph apart with his bare hands.

“I’m sparing your life.”

Adolph smiled, his eyes crinkling without a hint of warmth. “You wouldn’t dare do anything to me. Luann and I are tight. If she found out you had my blood on your hands, she’d be livid.”

After a long look, Myron turned and left the room.

Benjamin was brought back in. He stared at his phone, now as useless as a brick in his hand, and tossed it to the ground in frustration.

“Adolph, what’s our next move?”

Adolph’s face was a mask of confusion. He wondered why Benjamin would ask such a stupid question.

“What’s there to worry about? We’ve got food, drink, and folks waiting on us. Might as well enjoy the good life.”

Benjamin felt a tightness in his chest that wouldn’t ease up. Couldn’t Adolph see the gravity of their situation?

“But we were ambushed out of nowhere... If we hadn’t run fast, we would’ve been done for...”

After listening to Benjamin’s story, Luann said, “You’re saying the one who locked you up was ‘F’?”

Benjamin nodded. “Yes, Adolph said he knew the guy. It was the same one from the bar you shared the stage with. So I thought maybe you would know something, Luann...”

Luann thought it over with a grave expression. The man known as ‘F’ seemed to have quite the influence.

“Who attacked you?” Luann inquired.

Benjamin shook his head. “Many people want Adolph dPead... Not ‘F’, though. He just had us locked up. He didn’t seem intent on killing us.”

Luann hummed in acknowledgment. It looked like the only person who could shed light on who this ‘F’ really was... would be the old man Vincenzo Norman.

“I guess it’s too late for a visit now.”

Even though she said that, Luann hailed a cab to Vincenzo Norman’s place. By now, day had broken.
