Chapter 356 Just Being Willful

The remaining folks were the original employees from when the company started.

They hadlost hope and were just here to make a living now.

"Yeah, I think the company has maybe a month left. I've already lined up my next job."

"Same here. Let's just pack up and go."

Joshua wasn't happy. "Can you guys stop being so negative?"

Everyone glanced at him and stayed quiet. They knew Joshua was just a director who didn't know what he was doing. His presence was pointless.

Luann asked, "Where's my desk?"

The receptionist pointed. "Over there."

It was at a messy corner.

As soon as Luann moved, everyone jumped in.

"I'll clean it!"

"I'll move the desk! I need to stretch!"

Joshua quickly said, "Can someone help with my desk too?"

"What about this spot? You can see the view outside!"

"No way. What if Luann's afraid of heights?"

"How about this spot?"

"That one's under the air conditioner, not good for health."

"I think this spot is nice."

The place, usually dead, came alive with Luann's arrival. But no one helped with Joshua's dusty desk.

Joshua muttered, "Is this what being good-looking gets you?"

Soon, Luann's desk was spotless, and the trash was taken out.

They opened the windows for fresh air.

In half an hour, the office felt fresh.

Everyone laughed. "Girls should have clean spaces."

The receptionist was speechless. "So, does that make me a man?"

Nearby, Joshua struggled with his desk, exhausted. "Can anyone help me?"

"You're so weak, and you should work out more, or you'll never find a girlfriend."

Joshua fell silent. After tidying up, he decided to work seriously and asked for all the documents and loss reports from the company's start to now.

They brought out a stack of documents.

Joshua flipped through them confidently.

However, a minute later, his confidence vanished.

What was this?

He couldn't understand a thing!

Joshua quietly asked Luann, "Can you make sense of this?"

Luann glanced at it. "Not bothering to look." She could understand it.

Joshua scoffed, "Not bothering to look? Stop pretending. I know you can't understand it either!"

Luann nodded. "You're right."

Joshua had tried to provoke Luann, but he guessed correctly. He felt disappointed, his heart sinking.

"What do we do? Is the company going under?"

"Possibly."

"So we're just going to sit here and wait?"

Luann didn't answer but asked, "How much funding does the company have left?"

"I don't know."

"What about the finance department?" Joshua asked urgently.

"She resigned two weeks ago."

The receptionist raised her hand. "I saw her spreadsheet. Looks like there's only three million dollars left."

Joshua felt embarrassed.

Three million dollars for a company wasn't much.

Given their situation, investing seemed like the quickest way to make a profit.

Joshua fell silent.

Even at noon, he didn't go downstairs but ordered takeout.

After eating, he seriously studied the spreadsheets and professional terms, searching all over Google.

He searched hundreds of terms, his eyes glazing over.

"I recognize every word, but I don't get what they mean together," Joshua muttered, frustrated.

He got up to ask Luann, who was sitting opposite him, blocked by her computer.

But she was staring intently at the screen, clicking the mouse continuously.

Joshua got nervous. Although he didn't want to admit it, Luann was much more capable than him.

"What's wrong? Can the company be saved?"

Luann was intensely focused on playing LoL, having made a positioning mistake, and the enemy was chasing her.

Joshua waited anxiously.

Luann only heard the last few words and reluctantly answered, "Probably not."

Joshua exclaimed, "Really? Should we still work hard then?"

At a critical moment, a teammate came out, throwing a control and immobilizing the enemy.

Luann breathed a sigh of relief. "Maybe there's still a chance."

Joshua's hope reignited. "Really?"

But the next second, the enemy's attack was ready.

The screen turned gray instantly. She died in the game. "Damn."

Joshua gritted his teeth. "Are you messing with me? One moment, there's a chance, but the next there's none?"

Luann responded doubtfully, "What?"

Joshua walked around the desk, seeing the screen.

"Damn! You're playing a game!"

It turned out Luann hadn't heard him earlier. She was playing a game!

"Can you be a bit more serious?"

Luann calmly said, "No, I'm being willful. I just want to slack off."

Joshua's lips twitched. "Fine. Do whatever you want! You're so annoying!"

With that, Joshua angrily returned to his chair. Frustrated, he slammed the mouse and yelled, "Meeting in the afternoon!"

After everyone finished lunch, Joshua gathered them together.

There was a projector in the room, which could display images on the screen.

"It's only 1:30. This is overtime."

"Yeah, we should get extra pay."

Joshua grinned. "Be careful, or I'll dock your pay!"

He slapped the table hard. "Be serious. I'm the deputy general manager. At least give me some respect, okay?"

Everyone rolled their eyes, not intending to listen seriously.

"I've looked into it. Our company's remaining funds are very limited. As you mentioned, after this month, once next month's salaries are paid, we might all be saying goodbye."

"So my idea is, should we use this remaining money for one last effort? We can make one last investment, maybe we can turn things around."

Joshua clicked the mouse, a stock price chart appearing instantly.

"I've compiled a list of companies with the fastest rising stock prices recently. At the top is a real estate company that has been on the rise for the past two years. Its stock price has been steadily increasing. I think we should give it a try."
