Chapter 286 Overflowing Maternal Love
The doorbell rang incessantly without any courtesy.
The phone under the pillow vibrated persistently.
Holly Weiss, feeling annoyed, turned over and grabbed the pillow, pressing it against her ear.
She belatedly realized where the sound was coming from.
She answered the phone, her voice lazy and soft like a newborn kitten.
"Hello, why are you calling so early in the morning?"
Eddy stood at the door, watching the sun setting in the distance.
He urged, "Open the door."
Holly burbled, "You're so annoying."
Eddy said, "It's getting dark, Sarah is almost hungry."
Only then did Holly get up, lazily pulling the thin blanket around her shoulders, yawning as she went downstairs.
The door clicked open.
Sarah darted in, finding her familiar spot, bouncing around on the sofa, her short tail wagging happily.
Eddy held many things in his hands, looking at Holly with sleepy eyes and her hair tied up.
Helplessly, he said, "I brought you food; go wash up and get ready to eat."
Holly squinted and quickly closed the door against the glaring light outside.
"I'm so tired; I want to sleep a bit more."
After saying that, she directly curled up on the sofa and tucked herself in.
They are wrapped up neatly, with only a small head exposed.
Seeing her, Sarah jumped down in a hurry and found a cozy spot under a blanket. She was unusually obedient.
Eddy knelt on one knee, his gaze slightly higher than hers.
He reached out and tidied the stray hair on her face.
Eddy asked, "Did you stay up late again last night?"
Holly mumbled from under the covers.
Eddy sighed. "Staying up late is not good for your health."
Holly replied, "So I choose to pull an all-nighter."
Eddy frowned," What kind of twisted logic is that."
Holly retorted, "This is the truth."
Eddy urged, "You have ten minutes to get up, or else I'll have to take matters into my own hands."
"If I knew you'd be like this, I wouldn't have let you in." Holly complained.
"If I didn't come in, would you have food to eat?" Eddy looked at the things on the table, then got up to tidy up. "Who made this mess?"
"Stop nagging," Holly complained softly but obediently sat up, watching him tidy up before going upstairs to freshen up.
When she came back down, she was refreshed.
Eddy had already cleaned up the table; the food was neatly arranged.
Eddy said, "I brought all your favorite foods, including Crayfish, coffee, dessert, fried chicken, vegetable salad, fruit platter... which one do you want to eat?"
"I'll eat them all!" Holly replied.
Holly happily ran to his side and sat down next to him. Eddy opened a box of room-temperature yogurt and placed it in front of her.
He reminded, "Don't drink it so cold."
Holly muttered, "You have so many rules."
"It's for your good." Eddy emphasized.
Holly paused while drinking the yogurt, her eyes showing a strange expression.
"Eddy Nash."
Rarely hearing her call him by his full name, Eddy felt a bit uncomfortable.
He sat up straight. "What's wrong?"
"Do you have a crush on me, or are you just trying to satisfy your overflowing maternal heart?" Holly asked directly.
Eddy's mouth twitched, and he suddenly grabbed the yogurt.
"To be a fool to myself." Eddy cursed.
"Ah......"
The straw scraped across her lips, causing a sharp pain.
Eddy paused, looking at her nervously.
He asked, "Are you okay?"
Holly turned her face away in annoyance. "Just leave me alone; I'm not worth trusting anyway."
"Sorry, let me see if you're bleeding." Eddy leaned in.
Holly slapped his hand away.
Holly shouted angrily, "Get lost, and take all these things you brought with you! I don't even want to eat them!"
Eddy looked at the back of her head.
"Fine, I am leaving?" Eddy ventured carefully.
"Go!" Holly roared in a deep voice.
"Really leaving?" Eddy continued.
"Hurry up and go." Holly urged impatiently.
Eddy sighed helplessly. "Alright then."
He got up, his footsteps gradually fading away.
It seemed like he had reached the door.
Holly still didn't turn her head; she was resolute.
"Holly, I'm really leaving," Eddy said somewhat unwillingly.
"Aren't you annoying me? Are you really leaving or not? If you're not, I'll kick you out." Holly's tone was impatient.
The sound of the door closing rang out the next second.
The room fell silent. It was so quiet that Holly could only hear her breathing.
After half a minute, she turned around.
The room was empty.
"Eddy?" Holly tentatively called out.
"So you really left when I let you go"? Holly stood up serious, looking down at Sarah curled up at her feet.
Eddy had fed her, and now she seemed sleepy, her little brain seemingly drifting off to sleep.
"He left, why didn't you go after him?" Holly muttered softly, not sure if she was talking to Sarah or herself.
"I didn't hear the sound of a car. Is he waiting outside for me to coax him back in?" Holly walked to the door, her hand on the handle, hesitating to open it.
She closed her eyes, mustering the courage to open the door.
Suddenly, a voice came from behind.
Eddy asked, "If you didn't want me to leave, why did you say those insincere words?"
"Ah!" Startled, Holly turned around abruptly, instinctively moving back.
Eddy quickly placed his hand on the back of her head.
There was a dull thud.
Holly's head hit Eddy's hand, then the door.
Her big dark eyes looked confused and lost, even with a bit angry at being exposed.
"You......You didn't leave!"
Eddy bent slightly, effortlessly enveloping Holly in his arms.
"If I left, how could I have heard those words you just said?" Eddy asked.
"Shameless." Holly cursed in a lower tone.
Eddy gently lifted her chin, his gaze serious.
"Is it really bleeding? Does it hurt?"
Holly didn't say anything. She thought, 'It didn't hurt anymore.'
"It's my fault; I won't be so reckless next time." Eddy slowly lowered his head.
Holly tried to move away but was held firmly in place.
"What are you doing? You're not trying to kiss me, are you... Mmm!"
Before she could finish, her lips were sealed by his, silencing her.
After a moment, Eddy let her go and took a step back.
Confused, Holly furrowed her brows. "What's wrong? Why are you suddenly so far away from me?"
Eddy's breath was uneven. "I was afraid you wouldn't have the strength."
Holly paused, then quickly understood.
"Who said I wanted to make love with you!"
"All you think about is sex!"
"I'm hungry, I want to eat."
The two of them returned to the sofa and sat cross-legged.
Holly turned on the TV. A young man on the TV was dazzling and handsome.
Eddy promptly switched the channel.
Unhappy, Holly protested. "What are you doing?"
Eddy explained, "There's nothing good; let me find something for you."
"Find better with a more handsome guy." Holly commanded.
"How about this, is he good?" Eddy asked as he switched to another channel.
Holly watched the basketball game on TV expressionlessly, suddenly finding the shrimp in her mouth tasteless.
