Chapter 481 Not by Chance

Ernest is the hottest star right now.

His sudden and inexplicable appearance at this academy was noticed by many, naturally causing quite a stir.

Many even called their friends to quickly run out of the dorm to see him.

Emma gritted her teeth and pretended not to know Ernest.

She decisively grabbed Lionel's arm and walked away.

Lionel was slightly surprised; he had thought Emma would leave with Ernest.

Ernest took a few steps forward and directly blocked their path.

He smiled at Emma.

"Emma, I really have something urgent to discuss with you."

"I think there might be some misunderstanding between us. Can you give me a chance to talk it out?"

Many envious and jealous glances swept over them, along with the sound of cameras clicking.

Emma felt that if this continued, the entrance to the campus would likely get congested!

She gritted her teeth.

"I'll give you ten minutes!"

Ernest flashed a sunny smile that made many women swoon.

"Alright, then you lead the way."

Lionel lightly furrowed his brow. Although he was displeased, he said nothing.

After all, his relationship with Emma wasn't at a point where he could interfere in her personal life.

"Did you do this on purpose?"

Once in the car, Emma couldn't help but complain.

"You knew you'd be noticed and photographed if you came here like this, yet you didn't wear a mask or sunglasses?"

Ernest's lips curled into a smile that could charm thousands of girls, his eyes showing an innocent look.

"You blocked me, so I couldn't contact you. This was the most straightforward way."

"I just didn't expect us to be so in sync; you showed up not long after I arrived."

Emma got goosebumps.

She tightened her grip on the strap of her crossbody bag.

"Who's in sync with you? Can you stop talking nonsense?"

Ernest just smiled without saying anything.

Soon, they arrived at a very upscale restaurant.

As Ernest got out of the car, he glanced at Lionel.

As if wondering: Are you coming in too?

Lionel understood but pretended not to.

He even kindly reminded, "Mr. Bell, you only have ten minutes. Please make the most of it."

Ernest replied, "No rush. Let's go in and order something to eat first. We don't want Emma to be hungry."

Emma decisively refused, "No need. I'm going to eat with Lionel later. I don't like the food here; I can't eat it."

A visible look of sadness flashed across Ernest's face.

He slightly lowered his head.

"Alright then."

Seeing his vulnerable look, Emma felt a bit shaken inside.

But she quickly brushed it off.

No matter how much she liked Ernest, she couldn't allow him to ruin Luann's family!

"Then let's not eat. Let's just go in and talk. We need a quiet environment, don't we?"

Emma looked impatient, "Are you done yet? Giving you ten minutes is already a favor!"

Ernest pleaded.

"Emma, just this once, the last time."

"I promise I'll tell you everything. Whether you forgive me or not, I won't bother you again."

Emma sighed.

"Fine, let's go in."

Ernest nodded happily and said to Lionel, "Give us some time. In ten minutes, I'll return her to you as she is."

Lionel responded politely with a hum.

In the private room, Ernest eagerly let Emma sit down.

He then walked to the side to pour water.

Watching his back, Emma couldn't help but say, "It's just the two of us now. Can you stop pretending?"

Ernest's voice came softly, "Ms. Weaver told you everything?"

"She didn't say anything. I saw it with my own eyes."

Ernest sighed in relief, "What did you see?"

Emma was puzzled, "Stop playing dumb."

"Emma, I admit I did something inappropriate that day. But I was drunk; it wasn't what you think. I regretted my actions deeply once I sobered up."

Ernest spoke sincerely, placing the water in front of Emma.

Emma chuckled lightly, her shoulders shaking slightly.

"Do you really think I'm that stupid?"

"You just happened to run into Luann when you were drunk?"

"What were you trying to do in that situation?"

Ernest explained, "Emma, it really wasn't like that."

"Wasn't it? Then tell me, every time you came to see me, was it to get information about Luann? Did you take me to The Vintage Mirror that day because you knew Luann would be there?" Emma's voice suddenly rose.

She slammed her hand on the table.

Ernest's words seemed weak, "How could that be? It was really a coincidence."

"Really? I don't remember telling you I was at this academy," Emma said expressionlessly. "So how did you find me? Are you saying it was another coincidence?"

Ernest fell silent.

Emma could admit that her intelligence wasn't very high and she seemed easily deceived.

But that didn't mean she couldn't see the truth.

Ernest irritably covered his face.

A muffled voice leaked from between his fingers.

"Alright, I'll tell you."

"I did develop some feelings for Ms. Weaver."

"And I had a bit to drink that day, so I lost control."

"But I never intended to use you for anything."

"I swear to that!"

Emma sneered.

"Anything else to say? If not, I'm leaving."

Ernest's voice was bitter.

"Emma, can't you trust me just once? You've followed me for so long; doesn't my word have any credibility with you?"

Emma replied, "Do you think I'd choose an outsider over family?"

Ernest was speechless.

After saying so much, Emma was indeed a bit thirsty.

She picked up the glass and took a big sip.

Then she decisively stood up.

"Alright, you've explained everything. Let's not contact each other anymore. I'll pretend I never met you."

With that, Emma walked towards the door.

However, Ernest suddenly rushed up.

Just as her hand was about to pull the door open.

He slammed his hand on the door.

Blocking it firmly.

Emma turned around, finding herself trapped between the door and his arms.

That face she had once been infatuated with was now so close.

She could almost see his pores.

"Emma." Ernest's voice was like a deflated balloon, his eyes red, extremely aggrieved, his voice soft like a lamb, "I really know I was wrong. I shouldn't have tried to get close to someone I shouldn't. Now I realize that in chasing something distant and unattainable, I lost the person who truly loved me."
