Chapter 61 Do you dare?
The sound of shattering echoed through the air, causing Ally's chest to heave with anger.
"Damn Luann, how dare she embarrassed me in front of so many people!"
"Just you wait!"
"I won't let you have an easy time in the Curtis family!"
Downstairs, Luann was chatting with the same woman who was berated by Ally. During their conversation, she learned that the woman was an intern journalist named Jane, currently attending college. She had been brought here by a distant relative to gain some exposure.
"Just now...thank you so much, otherwise I would have been at a loss for words..."
"No problem."
Jane looked at Luann with gratitude, admiration shimmering in her eyes, her fingers fidgeting restlessly.
"As far as I know, Ally has been spoiled since childhood, always using her status to oppress others."
"If she finds out you helped me today, she might cause trouble for you..."
"I would be uneasy as well..."
Luann's words carried a deeper meaning, "Even if I didn't help you, she would still cause trouble for me."
"Huh?" Jane blinked in confusion.
Luann glanced at her, meeting her gaze. "As a young journalist, don't you know Ally's friend is Juliet?"
Jane was momentarily stunned, staring dumbfoundedly at Luann before managing to utter a word.
"I...I know..."
Amid their half-hearted conversation, the birthday banquet quickly arrived. The hall was filled with people engrossed in lively discussions about the Curtis family.
"Oh, it's such a pity for the second household of the Curtis family. Diana is such a capable person, yet her son lives off her."
"Yes, even if she dedicates herself to managing the Curtis family, what can she achieve? She's only preparing the bridal gown for the first household."
"I heard the tyrant of the third household recently started his own company?"
"It's just for show. Who knows, it may close down in a couple of days."
The old master was advanced in years but still hadn't written his will, inevitably causing a stir among the crowd.
Jane leaned closer to Luann, catching a faint scent on her. She whispered, "It seems like the lady of the house hasn't arrived..."
The lady of the house referred to the grandmother who lived with Myron and the others.
"I heard that after Myron's appearance was ruined, the lady of the house had a falling out with the master and they haven't been in contact for several years."
Luann nodded thoughtfully.
Diana walked onto the stage, a gentle smile on her face, and politely spoke, "I welcome all of you to my birthday celebration. I am grateful for your presence..."
After exchanging some pleasantries, Diana's husband approached the stage and personally adorned her with a dazzling pearl necklace.
"Gasp...Isn't that the South African diamond that appeared in the auction earlier this year?"
"Indeed! Who would have thought the second master would be so thoughtful! He had it specially made into a necklace!"
"Oh my, I'm so envious. After so many years of marriage, their love is still..."
“Still, it’s so good!”
Many people exclaimed, even Jane beside them had a look of immense longing in her eyes.
“So happy”…"
"Happiness?"
Luann softly spoke these two words, barely shaking her head.
Jane hummed, "Yeah, Miss Luann, don't you think their relationship is great?"
As Myron extended his hand to pull Luann behind him, he paused. Luann gazed at Diana with a smile, but her eyes betrayed no emotions.
"Just a performance."
Myron's fingertips trembled lightly. Confused, Jane blinked her eyes, utterly bewildered.
"What does that mean? How is this just a performance?"
Luann had hit the nail on the head.
“Don’t you think this necklace doesn’t suit her at all?”
"Her attire clearly shows that she's not someone who likes luxurious things, yet the other party gave her something extremely valuable."
Upon this realization by Jane, she instantly admired Luann even more.
"You are so observant, it's incredible!"
A person’s subconscious actions would reveal their true feelings. When Lady Diana saw her husband approaching, instead of going forward to greet him, she took a step back. Clearly, their relationship was not as good as others believed. Jane's gaze shifted from Luann to Myron, and when she saw his slightly gloomy face, she quietly distanced herself from Luann. Myron stood beside Luann, his voice hoarse.
“When the people on the stage finish, we’ll leave.”
Luann smiled faintly.
“We probably can’t leave.”
Myron frowned.
Sure enough, the butler came along with the crowd and smiled at the two of them.
"Master Myron, Miss Luann, Lady Diana said to wait and have a family feast together after the birthday banquet."
Before Myron could speak, the butler added,
“This is the order of the old master.”
Upon hearing the mention of the patriarch, Myron coldly uttered an "Hmm."
The banquet was dull and uninteresting. Luann propped her chin up, watching the people dancing in the center of the ballroom, feeling exhausted as she yawned, her beautiful eyes clouded with fatigue.
As the song ended, people began to move aside in pairs, leaving space for others.
Ally proudly held up the hem of her dress and walked towards Myron in front of everyone.
“Myron, can I invite you to dance with me?”
Luann's sleepiness vanished in an instant.
She raised her eyebrow, meeting Ally's challenging gaze. Tension permeated the air.
Alvin felt the electric atmosphere swirling in the air. He stood up smoothly, extending his right hand in a gentlemanly gesture with a slight bow.
"Ally, my brother here is a married man, it wouldn't be appropriate for him to dance with you...
How about the two of us dance together instead?”
Ally showed a face of sudden realization, as if understanding something. Alvin's answer hit the mark for her.
“That’s true, but today is Lady Diana’s birthday, and Miss Luann should dance with
Myron to liven up the atmosphere."
What does it matter how well Luann plays the piano?
Dancing in a prominent family is not like amateurish twirling and gyrating in a bar. Without proper training, who would dare to step forward and become a laughingstock?
Alvin realized he misspoke.
Though not very clever, he understood that Ally was blatantly using him as a weapon in their conversation.
“It’s the same for anyone. Besides, my elder brother dislikes being in the limelight.”
"Come on, let me accompany you in dancing."
With that, Alvin went to grab Ally’s hand.
Ally gave him a disgusted look, avoiding his gesture and boldly challenging Luann.
"What's the matter? Are you scared?"
