Chapter 441 On the Rooftop
Juliet squinted, a rare flicker of tension crossing her face. "Where is he now?"
The burly guy replied, "Just saw his car by the window. He should be almost at the hospital by now."
Juliet quickly packed her stuff, grabbed the will, shoved it into her bag, and headed out. "Let's get out of here."
"Got it."
The three of them skipped the elevator and waited in the emergency exit. The lights were voice-activated, so they hid in the dark. Soon, they heard the elevator ding.
Wilber walked by quickly. Juliet clenched her fists, thinking, 'Why is Wilber here now? Is he trying to get info from Dad on his deathbed?'
Juliet's hunch was right; Wilber was indeed thinking that. Since no one believed him, Mike's words would carry more weight. If Mike exposed Juliet's true nature in front of everyone, her reputation would be toast.
Wilber thought he might not get to see Mike or talk to him. But when he reached the ward door, it was ajar. Inside, the caregiver was lying on the sofa, back turned, seemingly asleep.
Mike on the bed looked at Wilber, surprised. Wilber gritted his teeth, lifted Mike, put him in a wheelchair, and quietly wheeled him out.
Once out of the ward, Wilber whispered, "Mike, I believe you now. I know Juliet hid your illness and tried to scam money from me. If you help me expose her, I can make sure your last days are peaceful."
Mike leaned back in the chair, looking utterly hopeless.
After leaving the hospital, Wilber put Mike in the car and sped off. He didn't notice a car following them.
The burly guy said, "Ms. Weaver, there's no surveillance on this road."
Juliet replied, "Stop his car."
The burly guy nodded, floored it, overtook Wilber's car, then braked hard and turned the wheel, stopping right in front of Wilber.
Wilber had to stop. Before he could react, two burly guys rushed at him. He was stunned and quickly said, "This has nothing to do with me. It's your bad driving. I didn't hit you. You..."
One of the guys grabbed his collar and slammed his head into the steering wheel. Wilber slumped over, unconscious.
When he woke up, he heard the wind howling. A sharp slap landed on his face. Then another.
Wilber was dazed from the beating. A bucket of cold water was dumped on him. It was a chilly autumn night, freezing cold.
Wilber choked on the water, coughing violently. His hair was plastered to his forehead, dripping. Only then did he realize he was on a rooftop, tied up with ropes.
In front of him stood Juliet, looking as imposing as ever. At the edge of the rooftop, Mike sat in a wheelchair, swaying in the cold wind.
"Didn't you enjoy hitting me yesterday?" Juliet tilted her head, smiling lightly, shaking her reddened hand.
Wilber roared, "Juliet! What are you doing?"
Juliet said slowly, "Shouldn't I be asking you that? Coming to my dad's place in the middle of the night, taking him out of the hospital without permission. If Luann finds out, what do you think she'll do to you?"
Wilber panted heavily, glaring. "What do you mean?"
"Wilber, I originally wanted to leave you a way out, but you kept provoking me." Juliet crossed her arms, a hint of ruthlessness in her eyes. "Does giving me 30% of the shares hurt you that much?"
Wilber shouted angrily, "It's not about the shares. You've been using me all along."
"Being used by me is your honor." Juliet smoothed her hair and glanced at Mike. "Tell me your plan. What do you want with my dad?"
"Why should I tell you?" Wilber gritted his teeth.
"You wanted him to expose my actions in front of the camera, right? Do you really think I'm as stupid as you? Wilber, why couldn't you just behave? Why provoke me?" Juliet grabbed Wilber's chin, carefully examining his features. "We've been together for over a year. I have some feelings for you. Why force me to be so ruthless?"
"I was just wondering how to quickly reclaim the Weaver family's assets, and you came right to me." After Juliet finished speaking, she signaled to the burly man.
The burly man immediately pushed Wilber towards Mike.
Wilber panicked. He didn't know what crazy thing Juliet was going to do. "What are you doing? Don't touch me! Let go!"
Wilber was pushed behind Mike's wheelchair. Juliet watched them from a distance, tears streaming down her face. "Dad, it's all my fault. Wilber hates me. When he couldn't harm me, he took it out on you and killed you. Don't worry, I'll avenge you. I promise."
Hearing Juliet's words, Wilber got anxious and thought, 'What does Juliet mean? She won't really kill Mike, will she?'
"Juliet, you're crazy. You'll go to jail for this. Calm down. I won't bother you anymore. You can have the shares. I'll take all the losses. Let's both take a step back and pretend we don't know each other, okay?" Wilber's body trembled violently. At this moment, he was truly scared.
Juliet wiped away her tears and asked, "Really? Wilber, you really won't bother me anymore?"
"Yes. I promise." Wilber shivered, just hoping Juliet would come to her senses.
Juliet smiled the next second, chuckling. "Wilber, you always like to joke with me. If you had done this earlier, we would all be happy. Why make it so complicated?"
Wilber looked at her expression and breathed a sigh of relief. Unknowingly, he had broken out in a cold sweat. "Yes, you are right."
Juliet smiled gently, just like usual. "In that case, untie Wilber."
