Chapter 214 Help
When Holly heard Eddy's crisp response, she was taken aback.
Could Eddy be bluffing? Perhaps he had already informed Myron Curtis, yet he was still stringing her along?
Faced with this cunning man, Holly knew she had to be cautious.
She carefully climbed down and walked to a corner of the private booth to call Myron Curtis.
The phone was answered quickly.
"Sorry for calling so late."
The words hung on Holly's lips, all sounding too contrived.
Directly asking about his relationship status with Luann Weaver was too blunt.
As she hesitated, Myron Curtis spoke up, sounding annoyed, "If you've got something to say, make it quick, you've disturbed Luann Weaver’s rest."
"What?"
"I just got her to sleep."
Holly finally relaxed.
If Myron was aware of the situation, he would've been more guarded with Luann Weaver, perhaps even causing a rift in their marriage.
Now that Myron had spoken thus, Holly felt reassured; Eddy truly hadn't had the chance to tell him yet.
"Good night!"
She tucked her phone back into her pocket and looked at Eddy sheepishly.
Eddy called her out, "What, you thought I'd trick you?"
"No."
Eddy smiled slightly.
If he hadn't given Myron a heads-up, Holly might have indeed caught on.
"So, we've agreed—I'll play your boyfriend, but you don't tell Myron anything about Luann Weaver."
"Yeah, I keep my word."
In any case, Myron knew all he needed to know.
There was no need for Eddy to go over it again.
So, unless something unexpected happens, Eddy won't bring up Luann Weaver’s situation to Myron again.
"So, am I officially your boyfriend now?"
Holly was resigned, "Guess so."
"What do you mean, guess so? I need a clear answer, or else," Eddy waved the phone in his hand.
Exasperatedly rolling her eyes, Holly conceded, "Yes, we're officially a couple now, okay?"
Eddy nodded, supremely satisfied.
Holly Weiss was visibly down in the dumps, her face set in a frown. "It's getting late; I think I'll head back to rest."
"I'll drive you.”
"Sure.”
On the way back to the villa, Holly slumped in her seat, staring blankly at the trees flashing by outside the car window, lost in thought.
It was only when the surrounding light dimmed, and a man's rich, magnetic voice filled her ears that she snapped back to reality.
"We're here.”
Holly came to her senses, unbuckled her seatbelt, and was about to get out of the car when Eddy grasped her wrist.
“Looks like you forgot something."
Eddy pointed to his own face.
Holly frowned. "What do you want, some kind of thug move?"
Eddy flashed a helpless smile. "It's a goodnight kiss."
Holly leaned in and pecked him emotionlessly on the lips.
"Happy now?"
Eddy's smile slowly faded. "If you're not into it, we can always... our partnership, I mean..."
Holly kissed him twice more.
"Don't get any ideas, or I'll deck you!” she warned, baring her teeth in a mock snarl, her fist clenched.
In her mind, she was intimidating, but through Eddy's eyes, she was nothing but adorable.
"Goodnight, sweetheart."
Holly slammed the car door and stomped into the villa, muttering under her breath: “Sweetheart, huh? Probably calls every other girl that, too.”
Bang! The front door shut forcefully, and the lights inside flashed on and then off.
Eddy sat in the driver's seat, looking up at the second-floor bedroom window with a smug smile curling his lips.
Holly changed into her nightgown, flopping back onto the bed, spread-eagled, staring blankly up at the ceiling.
"What a rip-off!" she huffed.
"If that had been Alvin Curtis instead of Eddy, I would have been all over it.”
She sighed deeply, melancholy.
“Oh, I’m so pitiful. Boo-hoo.”
Grabbing the little yellow duck toy from her bedside, she buried her face in it vehemently.
Come dawn, Holly was already out of bed—accurate to say, she hadn’t slept all night.
After waiting for an hour outside Luann Weaver's door, she finally saw her emerge.
Determined, Holly hopped out of the car, completely ignored Myron Curtis as if he were invisible, and grabbed Luann by the arm to get in the car.
Myron looked displeased and coldly asked, "What are you doing?"
"Talking to Luann!" Holly shouted back, her tone fierce.
Myron was about to lose his temper when he caught a warning glance from Luann.
"Go on with your business; Holly seems to be in a bad mood. I'll keep her company."
Reluctantly, Myron nodded. "Fine."
Inside the car, Holly Weiss gripped the steering wheel, her gaze vacant.
Luann Weaver waved a hand in front of her face. "You okay?"
Holly shook her head, started the engine, and hit the road with reckless abandon.
The two arrived at a dessert shop, where Holly threw caution to the wind and told the waiter, "I'll take one of everything on the menu!"
Luann propped her chin on her hands, watching her, puzzled.
Soon, the table was heaped with sweets.
Holly stuffed them into her mouth, one after another, cheeks bulging with whipped cream, insisting on more even when she could barely swallow.
Luann couldn't bear to watch her shovel it in any longer, guessing at the problem. "What's wrong? The hunk at the bar gives you the cold shoulder?"
Holly shuddered. "Stop it!"
Luann reached out and touched her forehead with a furrow of concern. "Holly, you seem feverish."
"It's nothing," Holly muttered, dodging her hand, clearly out of sorts.
She likely caught a chill in Eddy's private box the night before, sweating from fright and then blasted by the air conditioning.
Luann waited, patient and knowing. Holly was never one to keep things bottled up.
Sure enough, after plowing through a dozen desserts, Holly finally murmured, "I'm in a relationship."
Luann was floored.
That was unexpected! Though Holly was a party girl, she had never been in a real relationship; the most she'd done was take a fancy to a good-looking guy and plant a couple of kisses on him.
Holly clicked her tongue. "Just look at that expression of yours."
Luann shook off her astonishment. "Who's the lucky guy?"
"It's Eddy!" Holly exclaimed her tone a mix of resentment and disbelief.
"But you never liked him. How did this happen?" Luann was at a loss.
Holly seized her hand. "For you."
