Chapter 179 Understanding

Vito Curtis had made Joshua kneel for days on end, leaving him utterly disheveled.
In truth, Vito Curtis's anger had mostly subsided already.
He just hadn’t found a graceful way to withdraw.
Moreover, he knew that Myron Curtis was certainly livid about the incident and wouldn't let Joshua off easily either.
Grace quickly caught on and nodded in approval.
Joshua was clever indeed. Kneeling to Myron Curtis? Curtis might have kicked him away.

But kneeling to Luann Weaver was different.
Luann Weaver also understood this logic.
No matter what, Joshua was a member of the Curtis family. Even with Vito Curtis's fondness for Myron Curtis and her, he wouldn't expel Joshua from the family just like that.
"It should have been Myron handling this; Joshua has just shifted the burden to me... Not a bad move."
Luann's muttering was barely audible.
Initially, she only needed to have Myron Curtis deal with the matter.
But now, with Joshua's sudden kneeling, the initiative was in her hands.
"Even if I don't let Joshua off, the old man will eventually let bygones be bygones."
Luann knew the score all too well.
Whether or not she forgave Joshua, the matter would pass.
But there was no hurry; she couldn't reprimand Joshua publicly, but she could deal with him behind the scenes.
"Let it be, just be more careful in the future," said Luann dismissively.
Grace quickly followed up, "Grandpa, regardless, Joshua made a mistake and he shouldn't get off with just an apology..."
"I think he should make amends for his wrongdoing."
"Let's have Joshua assist big sis; that way, if she needs help with anything, Joshua can lend a hand."
Vito Curtis didn't rush to agree but cautiously glanced at Myron Curtis for a cue.
Myron Curtis watched Luann Weaver with a hint of amusement.

Luann's lips curled into a sly grin, eyes shining with mischief, plotting something unknown.

"Great, I've been needing an assistant."

The moment Joshua felt Luann's gaze on him, an inexplicable shiver ran down his spine.

He should have been thrilled that Luann agreed to the idea, yet now he felt...

"You all can handle this," Vito Curtis concluded, rising with the help of his cane. "It's getting late; I'm off to rest. Don't stay up too late."

"Sure thing."

Myron and Luann headed home.

As soon as he entered the bedroom, Myron shed his jacket, his shirt...

By the time Luann turned around, Myron stood before her, his washboard abs glistening in the light.

"What... what are you doing...?" she stammered.

"Taking a shower."

The white bandages wrapped around his arm shone, silently reminding Luann of his injury.

Hesitantly, she spoke, "Maybe wait a couple more days? Last time your wound got wet, the doctor had to come over, said it was getting infected..."

Recalling the last bathroom ordeal, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment and her heart raced.

"I can't wait any longer, I'm starting to stink," Myron said calmly.

For someone as fastidious as him, skipping a day's shower was torture.

Plus, the lingering scent of blood was a constant assault on Myron's senses.

Luann leaned in close and took a deep breath.

A clean, pleasant aroma enveloped her.

"You don't smell bad."

"But I've been sweating."

After stating this, Myron headed for the bathroom.

Luann quickly grasped his wrist, "Hold on, you also have a wound on your head..."

Myron silently met her gaze, his eyes asking what she proposed they do.

Luann tapped her chin thoughtfully and then tentatively suggested, "How about I call a maid to help wipe you down?"

Avoiding a full shower and using a damp towel could be a good compromise.

Myron's handsome face frowned with aversion.

"No, I can't stand strangers touching me."

"Then..."

"Why don't you do it?" Myron interrupted.

Luann's eyes darted around wildly, almost jumping in place.

"Me? I... I can't do that..."
Luann Weaver fished out her phone from her purse in a frenzy, almost dialing the wrong number.

"Why don't I just call Eddy over for you? You guys have been tight since childhood..."

Myron Curtis silently bowed his head without a word.

The phone connected almost immediately.

"Hey, Eddy, get over here now!" Luann said decisively.

"What for?"

"To give Myron a back rub!"

Eddy thought he misheard, "Say what?"

"I said, give him a back rub!"

Eddy nearly slipped off his chair in shock, "Sis, I'm straight, you know? Your guy doesn't interest me!"

"He's hurt, and you being his best buddy, it's kind of your duty to help out..."

Luann's words trailed off weakly, cut short by Eddy's interjection.

"Hang on, tell me, why did he get hurt?"

"To protect me."

"And if he hadn't picked you up that day, where would you be?"

Luann muttered quietly, "Lying in a hospital bed..."

Eddy's tone grew assertive and justified.

"So how's this my business?"

"Luann, you're not taking proper care of your lifesaver, instead you keep looking for others to repay the favor for you. Got yourself quite the deal there!"

"If I were Myron, hearing you say this, it would be chilly inside my heart!"

"The guy who cared so much, even put his life on the line for you, he gets injured for you and you wouldn't even help him wash?"

"How's that any different from being ungrateful?"

Luann's lips parted slightly, her mind buzzing from Eddy's scolding.

A surge of guilt flooded from her heart, spreading to every limb, to every cell.

Right...

She really shouldn't have done that...

Luann hung up the phone, looked over at Myron Curtis, and saw him still bowing his head, staring at the ground with his hand over his injured arm.

He looked as forlorn as an abandoned kitten.

Luann smacked her forehead.

God...What had she said?

What had she done?

"Sorry..." Luann found her voice again, "I'll go run the water for you; just lie down."

Myron spoke with an understanding tone, "You really don't have to force yourself."

"No, no, it's not a bother at all," Luann insisted, waving her hands as she walked toward the bathroom and glancing back so often she nearly collided with the door.

Only when the sound of running water filled the bathroom did Myron finally take out his own phone.
Eddy snickered, clapping his friend on the back, "Man, you really called it—knew Luann would ring me up. I just aced that conversation, didn't miss a beat on the script you gave me!"
