Chapter 319 A Change of Heart
The entire Curtis Family had gathered in the parlor, with Vito standing confidently, leaning on his cane. Lily, however, appeared visibly upset, and Ben, standing beside her, cautiously handed her a cup of tea.
"Luann, I never would have guessed you had such talents!"
"Indeed, I was shocked to find that Avoida was Luann! I was nearly scared out of my wits!"
Emma's admiring exclamation caught Lily off guard, causing her hand to tremble and spill tea on her lap. Startled, Ben hastily grabbed a napkin to clean up the mess.
Lily, holding back her irritation, said, "Never mind, I'll go clean it up."
She had barely risen from her seat when Diana, who had been watching her every move, suddenly spoke up, "Lily, where are you rushing off to? Could it be that you're using the excuse of dirty clothes to hide in the bathroom ?"
Lily forced a smile and replied, "Of course not. Luann and Myron have done such a great service for the Curtis family. Naturally, I want to celebrate properly."
Diana responded thoughtfully, "I thought you might be jealous and didn't want to stay here any longer. After all, you can wipe off the little water easily and there's no need to make another trip." She then turned to Watson, "Don't you agree, Watson?"
Watson, still lost in thought, hadn't fully processed the situation. He was in shock after learning about Myron's restored appearance. And now, within a few days, Myron had gained international fame and even secured a high ranking on a global art list. "What's going on?" he wondered.
" Diana is right!" Watson replied absentmindedly, his mind in turmoil.
Vito glanced at Lily and gestured for her to sit down, "Diana is right; you should stay here."
"After all, Grace isn't here either."
Lily forced a smile and sat back down. Joshua and Alvin sat quietly in the corner. Joshua, who was usually talkative, remained silent as if he were part of the furniture. Alvin, knowing Joshua's nature, ignored him and took out his phone to play a game.
"This is actually quite good," Joshua muttered. Alvin was stunned for a moment and thought he had misheard.
"What did you say?" Joshua shot him a disdainful look, "None of your business, just play your game!"
Alvin, feeling slighted, rubbed his nose and shrank back, "Oh."
Diana looked at Myron and suddenly said, "Dad, Myron's recovery and return to our family is a good thing for us. The company has been short-staffed, and Myron's disfigurement and subsequent change in mindset were the reasons he left the company. Now that he's well, shouldn't he start learning about the company again? After all, he's only twenty-eight. He can't spend the rest of his life doing nothing and relying on Luann, can he?"
Ben lowered his head even further.
Vito was about to speak when Lily interjected, "Diana, you're being too hasty. Actually, Myron leaving the company these past years hasn't been entirely a bad thing."
"Look at Myron, he never used to paint before. It was all due to his hard work later on, so he even achieved such great success."
"I think he shouldn't give up this opportunity and should continue to strive."
"The prospects in this field are far better than being stuck in the Curtis Group!"
"You must understand that this is a global ranking and it carries a lot of weight!"
Lily did not want Myron to return to the company. Over the years, she had struggled to secure her position, managing to hold her own against Diana, Watson, and Alvin's parents. 'If Myron were to come back, wouldn't that...'
Diana raised an eyebrow, clearly understanding Lily's intentions.
"Lily, that's not right. Myron has always been highly intelligent, learning everything quickly since he was a child. His return to the company would be beneficial. Besides, with Luann's position vacated, Joshua doesn't have anyone reliable by his side. Why not..."
Lily hurriedly interrupted her, a hint of urgency in her voice.
"What do you mean by reliable?"
"Don't you trust Joshua's abilities?"
"His position as director already proves his excellence."
"Moreover, he's still young. If he doesn't gain experience on his own, how can he rise to greater heights?"
Diana's lips curled into a mocking smile.
"Oh dear, it seems that each generation is worse than the last."
"Myron had secured billion-dollar deals for the company in his teens."
"But present Joshua is still considered young."
"Lily, at what age do you consider someone old?"
Lily clenched her teeth, the taste of blood spreading in her mouth. Her hands clenched tightly, her nails digging into her palms. It hurt, but strangely, it helped sharpen her focus.
Just as Diana was pushing Lily to her breaking point, Watson unexpectedly chimed in, "You know what, I think Lily might be onto something."
"Myron has been away from the company for years. It's indeed not suitable for him to return now."
Diana turned her head sharply, looking at him with undisguised shock and disappointment in her eyes. Lily furrowed her brows slightly, wondering what was going on.
"Diana, don't be upset. I'm just analyzing it seriously." Watson said, holding Diana's hand with a patient demeanor. "Look at how happy Luann and Myron are now. They prioritize each other, putting love first. Even if they're not in the company, they can still have a fulfilling life..."
Before he could finish, Diana pulled her hand back forcefully. She was silent for a moment, then smiled faintly.
"Watson, you really are something ."
Luann rested her chin on her hand, watching their internal conflict with amusement. Myron, on the other hand, seemed accustomed to it, showing no reaction. His long fingers played with Luann's hair, twirling it leisurely, unaffected by the discussion.
In Myron's heart and eyes, only Luann could stir his emotions.
The tension in the room thickened, creating an awkward atmosphere that hung heavily in the air.
Until a voice came from outside,"Mr. Torres, walk slowly. Be careful. There's a step here."
