Chapter 59 Self-awareness
There was a slight commotion at the entrance. A woman walked out from the midst, wearing a stunning red gown, with a proud and flamboyant demeanor, eyes filled with disdain, as if she didn't care about anything in the world. Luann's gaze briefly passed over her. The woman beside Luann quietly introduced, "This person is Ally, the beloved young miss of the the North family."
Luann didn't understand why she suddenly mentioned this, but she politely responded, "Thank you."
The woman pursed her lips, hesitated for a moment, then lowered her voice again, "Before Myron's disfigurement, she was the most suitable candidate to be the young mistress in Lady Diana’s heart."
Luann immediately understood. Lady Diana whom she referred to was Myron's mother. The Upper West Side was home to four prominent families, led by the Curtis family, followed closely by the Nash, Hodge, and White families.
The alliance between the Curtis and Hodge families was indeed a good choice. When Ally saw Lady Diana, a sweet smile immediately appeared on her face, and she went to greet her.
"Auntie, happy birthday!"
Luann caught a glimpse of Myron's mother's true appearance. She had a dignified and elegant appearance, with only fine lines at the corners of her eyes. Her skin was well-maintained, and she wore a barely noticeable distant smile. Her attire was relatively plain, without any prominent jewelry.
"It's been so long, Auntie, and you look even younger~"
Ally linked her arm with Second Madam's, appearing very intimate, as if they had a good relationship.
Onlookers cast envious glances and began discussing curiously.
“I heard Ally is the candidate for the position of young mistress.”
"It seems that Young Master has brought his new wife. Tut, it's going to be lively."
"The young master's marriage happened so quickly, if someone hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have known!"
"They didn't even have a wedding, it seems they just got the marriage certificate."
Ally's smile grew even wider, a provoking look in her eyes. She had been worried about how to help her good sister Juliet vent her anger, and now she had come across such a good opportunity. Today, she would let Luann see it clearly. Just how big was the difference between the countryside and the elite families!
"The face mask you bought for me last time was really good," Second Madam patted her hand.
"If you like it, I'll bring you some more in a few days," Ally leaned against her shoulder, as if they were mother and daughter.
She, while looking around, pretended to be curious and asked, "Aunty, I heard that Myron is here today. Since he got married, we haven't met yet."
Upon hearing this, Alvin, who brought Myron over, turned his head and seemed to want to leave.
Ally, sharp-eyed, spotted him and immediately raised her voice. "Alvin, where are you going?"
Alvin rolled his eyes and reluctantly turned around. "Ally, there are still two hours until the birthday banquet starts. Why did you come so early?"
With a spoiled tone, Ally raised her fair chin. "What? You don't welcome me? I was specially invited by Auntie, do I need to report to you when I arrive?"
Alvin didn't want to argue with her and silently stood behind Myron.
When Ally saw the hideous scar on Myron's face, her heart jumped. She concealed her fear and waved at him. "Myron, long time no see. How have you been lately?"
Myron's cold gaze swept across her face, taking note of all her emotional changes. He slightly curved his cold lips, showing no interest in this hypocritical woman.
After waiting for a while without a response from him, Ally felt somewhat embarrassed.
Lady Diana frowned and rebuked, "Myron, Ally is talking to you!"
Ally quickly said, "It's alright, Aunty don't be angry."
Myron's attitude towards her has been like this for more than just a day or two.
Diana shook her head disappointedly, glaring at Myron with a look of resignation and annoyance in her eyes.
Alvin awkwardly smiled and helped his older brother. "Mother, why don't you chat with Ally first? I'll take my brother somewhere else to sit."
Ally spoke first, "When I arrived at the door, I heard that Myron brought his wife. Why hasn't she come to greet Aunty yet? It's the first time they meet, so proper etiquette should be observed."
Alvin thought to himself that this was not good.
He knew his elder brother's temperament better than anyone else. Wasn't Ally just asking for trouble with her words?
Sure enough, Myron's previously calm expression turned gloomy immediately!
His thin lips parted, about to speak, when a familiar warmth and a small hand grabbed his large palm, naturally intertwining their fingers.
Stepping forward, Luann stood by Myron's side, smiling confidently.
Her elegant temperament instantly surpassed Ally by several degrees.
"Sorry, dear husband, I kept you waiting. The house is a bit big, and I got lost inside."
The term "dear husband" made Myron's heart tremble. The sinister aura seemed to meet water, instantly extinguishing without a trace.
"It's okay."
Luann glanced sideways, meeting Diana's gaze head-on.
"Mom."
Diana looked at her, didn't say anything, turned around, and went to attend to the guests.
Ally sneered at this ironic scene and meaningfully said, "Miss Luann must be here for the first time. Getting lost in the house is quite surprising... But it makes sense though, Miss Luann's arrival is indeed rare."
"Luann has lived in the countryside for so many years and has never seen such a big house, which is quite normal," she nodded lightly, agreeing with her point of view.
"Miss Ally is right," she said.
"I've been back for several years, but I still haven't quite gotten used to it."
"After all, there are so many two-faced people here with hidden agendas."
Ally's eyelids twitched, but she remained composed.
"I suppose Miss Luann doesn't have any close friends either."
"Not like me and Myron, we've known each other since we were little."
"Although we didn't end up as a couple, we can still continue as friends."
Alvin swallowed nervously.
Both women had radiant smiles, each more beautiful than the other.
At first glance, what they said didn't seem problematic.
But for some reason, being caught in the middle, Alvin always felt a chill, as if unseen knives were flying around in the sky.
Luann tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and gently leaned against Myron's shoulder, displaying their affection.
"Men do prefer younger women."
"Someone like Miss Hodge at her age really doesn't have what it takes to compete with me."
Alvin suddenly started coughing violently, choking on her own saliva!
Ally's expression turned dark!
Was Luann calling her old?
How could she be considered old?!
Myron was only twenty-eight this year, and she was just twenty-five!
Luann looked up, her chin resting lightly on the well-tailored suit of the man, her eyes full of tenderness.
"Miss Hodge is quite self-aware, isn't she, darling?" she said to Myron.
