Chapter 56 Standing Beside Him

"Juliet, have you lost your mind? Are you really going to give up your path to stardom?"

"By admitting it online like this, which director would dare to cast you in a movie?"

A dissatisfied voice chimed in from the side. The speaker had an average appearance, a delicate beauty.

She reached out, unceremoniously took Juliet's phone, and scrolled through the latest comments, furrowing her brows in anger.

"This damn Luann, she seems quiet and unassuming, but who would have thought she's such a scheming woman!"

"She's not satisfied with marrying Myron and now she wants to win back Wilber!"

Ally, Juliet's good friend, always defended her against injustice.

Juliet didn't care at all, showing no trace of heartbreak or despair.

Instead, she felt confident and determined.

A subtle and provocative smile appeared at the corner of her lips as she delicately tucked a strand of hair behind her ear with her slender, rosy fingertips.

"Yes, she finally succeeded."

"Since she married into the Curtis family, she has always tried to drive a wedge between Wilber and me."

Hearing this, Ally became even more confused.

"If that's the case, why did you break up with Wilber?"

"As long as you're with Wilber, Luann will continue to suffer."

"Now, if you let go, aren't you making room for Luann?"

Juliet rolled her eyes silently in front of the mirror and cursed inwardly.

Stupid!

Anyone with eyes can see that Wilber has already been enchanted by Luann, even if he's physically with Juliet, his heart has long drifted to another woman.

If this entanglement continues, Wilber might start to despise her even more.

It's better for her to take the initiative, stage a pitiful act, and perhaps gain some sympathy from Wilber.

Besides, what her father said was right.

Luann is already married, so what can she do with Wilber?

With these thoughts in her mind, the words that came to her lips took several turns.

"But what can I do?"

"To Wilber, I'm just a dispensable person..."

"Perhaps in his heart, I can never compare to his sister..."

Ally grabbed Juliet's hand, comforting her while giving her encouragement.

"What nonsense are you talking about! How can that country bumpkin woman compare to you"

"After being together with Wilber for so long, how can your feelings just disappear?"

"Don't underestimate yourself, Juliet, you are outstanding."

Juliet turned around, tears streaming down her face, and let out a soft whimper.

"Is that true?"

"Of course, it's true!" Ally's face was full of certainty as she nodded forcefully. "Luann, apart from her appearance, is worthless! You mustn't give up easily!"

"If there's anything you need, just tell me. If I can help, I will assist you!"

Juliet seemed to be comforted by her words and, with a smile through her tears, replied, "Thank you, Ally."

The cunning glint in her eyes flickered with a touch of mockery, which she concealed well.

"Never mind, it's better for you to behave like a proper young lady."

Ally became a little impatient.

"Tsk, don't look down on me! My brother has returned from abroad!"

"With his status, not even a mere Luann can compare."

"Even Myron, he wouldn't pay him any attention!"

Juliet widened her eyes in astonishment, with a gleam of excitement flashing in them, leaning closer to Ally.

"Is it true?"

Ally nodded confidently, tilting her chin slightly.

When she mentioned her brother, she carried an inexplicable sense of pride and arrogance.
"Of course, it's true!"

"By the way, the first thing my brother did upon returning was to participate in a racing competition. Do you want to go and watch together?"

"Come to think of it, you haven't seen my brother for about five or six years!"

Juliet nibbled at her red lips, fidgeting her fingers anxiously, struggling to speak.

"Is...is that okay?"

Ally countered, "Why not? What's wrong with that?"

"You are my friend, and my brother's friend too!"

"To be honest, I used to want to set you up with my brother, so you could become my sister-in-law in the future."

"But unfortunately, my brother went abroad to take over the family business, and who knows when he'll come back."

"Now that he has finally returned, your heart is already set on Wilber, sigh!"

A handsome face suddenly popped into Juliet's mind.

She licked her lips lightly, swallowing her saliva.

"Alright, I'll go with you."

...

Since the night of the street racing incident, Alvin hadn't come to see Luann for several days in a row.

Luann, on the other hand, had plenty of free time and had skipped work for a few days, going shopping with Holly all over the Upper West Side.

"Sis, what on earth are you buying? My legs are going to break from walking with you day after day!"

"I enjoy shopping, but what I love even more is buying things while I'm at it!"

"But you, you just look and don't spend any money. You have no drive at all."

Luann's gaze through a series of luxury brand counters and casually said, "I'm just thinking about what birthday gift to get."

"A gift is simple enough, perfume or jewelry, just pick one!"

"It's for Myron's mom, "Luann added.

Holly's steps halted, and a troubled expression appeared on her face.

As someone who only pursued romantic relationships without thinking about marriage, she had never experienced this before.

"You can try getting her something she likes. Do you know what brands she likes? Choose something from that brand, and you can't go wrong."

"I don't know."

Luann replied succinctly.

She hadn't even met the person, let alone had a conversation, so how could she know what she liked.

Holly uttered an "oh" and spoke carelessly.

"Then just buy something random, it's the thought that counts. She probably won't be picky."
Holly's gaze landed on a watch, signaling the salesperson to bring it out for a closer look.
"This one is pretty good! Buy this."

"Okay."

Upon seeing the watch, Luann thought it looked very nice. Without hesitation, she decisively swiped her card. After buying the gift, Luann returned home.

Myron was in the kitchen, experimenting with new dishes. Upon hearing Luann coming enter the apartment, he didn't turn his head and simply said, "Please have a seat, dinner will be ready soon."

"Okay."

Luann secretly felt fortunate that she had eaten something with Holly before coming back home. Now she was already eighty percent full.

When the dishes were served, Luann took a small portion of rice and ate it mouthful by mouthful.

Myron frowned and asked in a low voice, "Why are you eating so little?"

Luann lied without a change in expression, "I've been trying to lose weight recently."

"You're already thin, you don't need to lose more."

Every time he hugged her, Myron felt like he was holding an underage child. But fortunately, Luann had a well-proportioned body, with no shortage in the right places.

Luann picked up a vegetable with her chopsticks and ate it silently.

Myron quietly watched her for a while and suddenly spoke, "It's my mother's birthday this weekend, let's go together."

"Okay."

Seeing her lack of reaction, Myron knew Alvin had already told her.

After pondering for a moment, he decided to give her a few reminders.

"She's not easy to get along with."

"But I only see her a few times a year."

"If you don't like her, just stand by my side in silence."

"For everything else, leave it to me."
