Chapter 153 Logan, the Chairman

Near a villa hidden among the trees.

Sunlight filtered in through the gaps in the leaves, casting long and distorted shadows.

The elongated silhouette of a person could be seen as well. His figure swayed unsteadily as though he was struggling to maintain his balance. His face was obscured by a scruffy beard. His hair was matted and greasy, clumped together in tufts; some stood up, and some was plastered to his forehead. He was a picture of dishevelment.

His eyes shone with defiant determination as he stared fixedly at the closed gates of the villa; it was as though his eyes could bore holes through them.

It was silent, and the only sounds were the rustling of the winds. At this moment, the silence was broken by the creaking of the gates.

Upon hearing this, Joshua perked up immediately, straightening his posture.

Meanwhile, a housekeeper emerged from the villa. She approached Joshua and said with a sigh, “You’ve been standing here for two whole days. Your body won’t be able to withstand this. Mr. Logan has said that he’s not meeting anyone for the time being, regardless of who it is."

Joshua gritted his teeth. A hint of reluctance could be seen in his eyes as he said, “I don’t believe that I can’t make him come out to see me!"

The housekeeper shook her head in resignation before saying, "I know Mr. Logan best. Heed my advice. Even if your grandfather were to come in person, Mr. Logan wouldn’t meet him."

Joshua roared incredulously, "Why? Have I somehow offended Mr. Logan?"

“Mr. Logan has no interest in cooperating with your company,” the housekeeper replied, “So, it’s best if you stop this now.”

With that, the housekeeper turned around and made her way back inside. The crisp sounds of her footsteps echoed in the air with each step she took up the staircase.

After entering, she went to the study. She opened the door, revealing a middle-aged man who was enjoying his coffee in a leisurely manner. She asked, “Mr. Logan, the younger Curtis heir has been waiting for a long time. Are you certain you won’t see him?”

The housekeeper could not help but feel a tinge of sympathy for the persistent Joshua.

"Let him suffer out there if he wants. It’s not like I asked him to do this,” Logan said indifferently, “I’ve seen plenty of such ploys, and I won’t be fooled by him.”

Joshua finally left as the lights in the villa were slowly extinguished. Only then did he settle down under a tree. He pulled out his phone and ordered some takeout to fill his stomach.

Perhaps the last few days had taken a toll on him, after filling his stomach and drinking, he quickly succumbed to his sleepiness. He slept in the open, and his sleep was anything but restful.

At some point, Joshua suddenly opened his eyes just in time to see Luann draping a thin blanket over him.

Dawn had broken.

"Back off!"

With a sudden jerk of his arm, Joshua nearly sent Luann tumbling to the ground. Fortunately, she managed to steady herself. Then, she crouched down to look at him before she said, “Even if you’re in a foul mood, you should at least take care of yourself.”

Joshua’s eyes were brimming with disdain as he glared at Luaan. It was as though he was looking at something filthy. He scolded, “I don’t need your concern! Stop acting. Phony woman! Why are you pretending to be a good Samaritan? We’re not stopping this battle between us!”

“Well, that remains to be seen,” Luann said, completely unfazed.

After saying that, Luann rose to her feet. She made her way to the villa and rang the doorbell.

The same housekeeper answered the door. When she saw Luann, her expression froze for a brief moment. After coming to her senses, she asked, “You are?”

Luann did not respond. Instead, she only said, “I’m here to see Mr. Logan.”

"Miss, Mr. Logan is not receiving visitors at the moment. I’ll have to ask you to tleave."

At the side, Joshua could not help but laugh mockingly. He said, “Do you hear that? Don’t waste your time. I’ve been waiting to see Mr. Logan for days now, and I’ve not caught even a glimpse of him."

Luann remained undaunted. She gestured to her legs and said, “My foot is a little sore. I don’t think I can stand for much longer."

The housekeeper ignored her and turned back inside.

When Mr. Logan woke up and came down to the dining room, he asked nonchalantly, “Has that kid left yet?”

The housekeeper quickly replied, “No. Not only that, but a woman came as well. I don’t know if they’re together."

After finishing his meal, Mr. Logan settled on the couch. He aimlessly flipped through the TV channels before he finally stopped to watch a car race, which had been replayed over and over again recently.

Suddenly, he turned to the housekeeper and asked offhanded, “Who’s that woman? She can’t possibly be Joshua’s mother, right?”

The housekeeper shook her head. “No. She doesn’t look much older than him, and she’s quite stunning."

All of a sudden, the housekeeper pointed at the television and said, “That’s her!”

Mr. Logan jolted up. He froze for a moment before he asked, “What did you say? That woman outside… She’s the one racing on the television?”

“Yes,” the housekeeper said with a puzzled expression. She did not understand why Mr. Logan was so surprised.

"Did she say anything?"

"She… She just said that her foot is a little sore…"

Mr. Logan stood up abruptly before he paced back and forth in agitation. His behavior now was a stark contrast to the calmness he exhibited just moments ago.

At the same time, he muttered, “Why is she here? Her foot hurt? That’s right. She injured her foot previously so she can’t stand for long periods of time.”
Then, Mr. Logan looked at the housekeeper and asked, “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

The housekeeper was puzzled. She tried to recall Luann’s appearance carefully. Once she was certain that she had never met Luann before, she said tentatively, breaking the silence, “Didn’t you say not to let anyone in, no matter who they are?”

Mr. Logan muttered, “How can she be the same as the others? Didn’t you hear her say her foot hurts?"

The housekeeper was even more bewildered when she heard these words. She said, reminding him, “But Mr. Joshua has been waiting for two days and two nights, and you’ve been indifferent. You even scoffed at his low-level tactic to attract your attention.”

"Enough, stop talking!" Mr. Logan interrupted before he hurried away.

Luann was lightly rotating her ankle at this moment. At the sound of footsteps, she looked up with a smirk on her face, meeting Mr. Logan’s eyes.

Mr. Logan was unsettled by Luann’s gaze, and he quickly averted his eyes. He cleared his throat, looking slightly embarrassed as he said, “Two of you, don’t just stand there. Come on in."

Luann was just about to move when Joshua held her wrist tightly. It was as though he wished he could crush her bones. He asked through gritted teeth, “Luann, you’re really lucky, aren’t you? I spent all this time waiting, and Mr. Logan is finally willing to let me in. Are you really going to take advantage of this?”

Joshua believed wholeheartedly that Mr. Logan had given in because of his persistence in waiting for three days.

Luann looked at Joshua sarcastically and said with a scoff, “Don’t overestimate yourself. Do you think this your doing?”

Seeing that the duo was bickering, Mr. Logan said loudly, “Come inside already!”
