Chapter 20 King of the Bar

Myron Curtis remained unfazed.
"Had too much hot soup for dinner."
Luann Weaver nodded repeatedly.
"Understood."
Myron Curtis got up and walked towards the door.
"I'll go take care of this first."
"Okay."
After he left, Luann Weaver picked up her phone and sent a message to Holly Weiss.
[I suspect there's something wrong with him physically.]
Holly Weiss replied with a sneaky emoji.
[Wishing you happiness.]
Luann Weaver remained silent.
After about half an hour, Myron Curtis returned.
Luann Weaver had already changed into her regular pajamas and glanced at the door lock.
"How did you get in? I remember locking it!"
"The lock broke, and I haven't had the chance to get it fixed."
Luann Weaver smiled awkwardly. It was too coincidental!
"Well, since that's the case, we don't have to sleep... together tonight."
Before she could finish her sentence, she saw Myron Curtis get onto the bed.
...
Police station.
A newly arrived police officer was taking Edna Barker's statement.
The woman in front of him seemed furious, her teeth clenched as she passionately recounted her story, but he couldn't help but yawn.
Knock, knock-
The police officer looked up at the sound of the door and immediately stood up, smilingly saying, "Boss."
In Geoffrey Rowe’s mouth was a cigarette, and his gaze glanced inside.
"How is it?"
"I have almost finished recording. It's actually not a big deal. Neither side suffered any losses. The person can be released tomorrow morning."
Geoffrey Rowe frowned. "She cannot be released."
"Huh? It's not justifiable to keep her here. She may be mouthy, but there's no need to detain her."
Geoffrey Rowe huffed and flicked the cigarette ash.
"She offended someone she shouldn't have. If she wants to leave, it won't be that easy."
With that, he turned and walked away.
The auxiliary police followed him immediately, curiosity piqued.
"What did she do to offend someone? Isn't she the daughter of the Weaver Family?"
Geoffrey Rowe's eyes slanted. "Don't ask what you shouldn't ask. This is not something you should know."
Back in the office, before his seat could even warm up, someone handed him a document.
"Boss, the approval for the donation from the Ministry of Charity has come through – one billion!"
"The other party truly is a great philanthropist! This must add up to quite a sum over the past seven to eight years.” The person gestured with their hand.
Geoffrey Rowe glanced through it. "It's not just about donating money, they've also built around ten schools."
The person sighed. "This person is really mysterious. Nowadays, there aren't many who donate without revealing their faces."
"I still remember when the second Miss Weaver of the Weaver Family donated one hundred thousand dollars and rode the hype for half a month through live streaming!"
Geoffrey Rowe murmured cryptically, "How can there be such a huge difference between people from the same Weaver Family?"
...
The next day when they arrived at the company, Edna Barker's spot was already vacant.
The atmosphere in the whole office was extremely tense.
It wasn't until Carlton Daniel arrived that the deadlock was broken.
"Alisha, your husband has come to see you."
Alisha Mullen raised her head at the sound and saw Carlton Daniel leaning against the edge of the entire sales department, greeting her.
"I brought some afternoon tea for everyone, let's have some together."
"Mr. Daniel, you always bring so many delicious treats when you visit Alisha. We feel embarrassed."
"That's right, we're benefiting from Alisha's luck."
Carlton Daniel, charmingly, adjusted his tie.
"Then let's benefit a little more. I've already booked a restaurant. I hope all you handsome guys and beautiful ladies can grace us with your presence."
The crowd cheered, "Mr. Daniel, you're so generous!"
Carlton Daniel smiled lightly, but his gaze shifted towards Luann Weaver.
"Miss Weaver, won't you join us? I heard from Alisha about yesterday's incident. Let's consider it as our way of apologizing to you, shall we?"
The smile on Alisha Mullen's face gradually disappeared, and in her gaze towards Luann Weaver, there seemed to be sharp needles mixed in, as if she wished to poke a hundred or so tiny holes all over her!
At the restaurant Carlton Daniel asked, "What's the difference between this and a nouveau riche?"
Luann Weaver spoke slowly, "I don't actually recommend the 1982 Lafite, personally I think the Romanée-Conti is superior."
Everyone there were just ordinary working-class people, not familiar with any precious wines.
A glimmer of interest flashed in Carlton Daniel's eyes as he asked with enthusiasm, "Miss Weaver, which year would you recommend?"
"Ninety."
Carlton Daniel directly said to the server next to him, "Go and open a bottle of 1990."
The server looked apologetic.
"I'm sorry, sir, this wine has an annual production of only about six thousand bottles, and we can only get around ten."
"There are two conditions to be met if you want to buy it."
"First, you must hold our VIP Gold Card, which can only be obtained by spending at least 880,000 in our store."
"Secondly, you must be able to accurately identify which one is the Romanée-Conti among five different wines."
"After all, we sell to connoisseurs."
Upon hearing this, Carlton Daniel's eyelid twitched.
Being able to accurately find the wine you want among five different options is not an easy task.
For laymen, red wine is either "undrinkable" or "all the same," and they can't discern much of a difference.
Even someone like him, who owns a big company and entertains frequently, doesn't have the courage to take on this challenge.
Moreover...
He had never even heard of the wine Luann Weaver was talking about.
Judging from the server's attitude, it was probably much more precious and rare than Lafite.
Carlton Daniel tried to give Luann Weaver a way out.
"Let's forget about it, it's too much trouble, we..."
However, Alisha Mullen, who had remained silent, smiled and interrupted him, her gaze filled with hostility as she looked at Luann Weaver.
"Since you recommended it, you must have done extensive research on this wine, right?"
"We haven't seen much of the world, and this is the first time we've encountered such a grand occasion."
"Why don't you show us?"
A hidden threat was present in her smile.
She left no room for Luann Weaver to back down.
Carlton Daniel didn't expect Alisha Mullen to openly sabotage him, and he kept gesturing at her with his eyes.
But Alisha Mullen didn't even look at him.
