Chapter 436 Cheating
Juliet had her game plan from the start. She was after money, a great guy, and a life where she was the star of the show.
Wilber asked, "Luann, what are you getting at?"
"Can't you see?" Luann smirked.
Juliet would do anything for cash. Wilber would cover up anything for the family. Luann was curious to see what would happen if these two had a major fallout.
Wilber clenched his teeth. "I don't believe a word you're saying. Don't contact me again."
With that, Wilber stormed off. Luann watched him leave and then saw his car speed away. She muttered, "Juliet, what are you up to? Is the kid Wilber's?"
Luann thought, 'Looks like the Gilbert family is in for some drama. Anyway, I've said my piece and given the warnings. If I'm right, once Juliet gets that 30% share, she'll probably ditch Wilber. After all, pushing her luck too far might backfire.'
Luann got up, slung her bag over her shoulder, and walked away humming a tune.
"What the hell! There are barely any cars on this road, and you still managed to crash." The driver of the white car, waiting at the red light, angrily got out and banged on Wilber's window several times.
Wilber, in a state of turmoil, rolled down the window and threw out a handful of cash. "Get lost!"
"Just because you have money, you think you can hit me?" The white car driver, seeing this, took out his phone and started calling the police.
Wilber, irritated, started the car and drove off without waiting for the red light.
"Hey! Crazy! You'll get caught for sure," The white car driver shouted, running a few steps after him.
Wilber arrived at the upscale villa community where Juliet lived. But he wasn't allowed in. He said with a stern face, "I've been here many times before. Don't you recognize me? My wife lives here!"
The community had very strict security measures; unless the owner personally explained to the security, no outsiders were allowed in. When Luann had chased after Watson, she wasn't allowed in for the same reason.
The security guard said, "Sorry, Ms. Weaver instructed that no one is allowed to visit."
Wilber angrily said, "I was here just after 4 PM today. Did you forget?"
The security guard said, "Sorry, we only follow the owner's instructions."
Wilber slammed his hand on the steering wheel. "What a crappy community!"
"Sir, please move your car. You're blocking other vehicles."
Wilber reversed the car and temporarily parked in a roadside spot, then got out and called Juliet. But she didn't answer.
"What's going on?" Wilber's heart sank. He took out the abortion report.
The report was already crumpled beyond recognition. In front of Luann, he stubbornly said he didn't believe it. But deep down, he still had some doubts. So, he wanted to come over and ask Juliet in person.
Wilber pulled out a pack of cigarettes and lit one up. When he reached for another, he realized he was out. He headed to a convenience store to grab a new pack. Just as he opened it, his phone rang. It was Micah. "Dad?"
"Wilber, our stocks have been sold," Micah's voice was a mix of anger and shock.
Wilber was floored. "Sold? What do you mean?"
Micah urgently explained, "The 30% shares you gave Juliet."
Wilber muttered, "Didn't we sign the contract and finish everything at 4 PM?"
Micah shouted, "Yes! But an hour after the shares were transferred to Juliet, she sold them off at a low price. She cashed out everything."
In other words, Juliet made a killing off those shares.
The cigarette in Wilber's hand dropped to the ground. He couldn't wrap his head around why Juliet sold the shares.
Wilber didn't even realize when he hung up the phone. He stared blankly at the crumpled abortion report in his hand, a thought creeping into his mind. "I saw Mom push her down with my own eyes. How could it be... Lies, all lies! It must be Luann. She found Dad, and they teamed up to deceive me. It has to be that," Wilber's voice trembled.
He kept smoking. Soon, the ground was littered with cigarette butts. It was already 1 AM, and Juliet still wasn't answering her phone.
Wilber couldn't take it anymore. If this continued, the chaotic thoughts in his mind would drive him insane. Just as he was losing it, a car pulled up, looking like it was about to enter the community.
Wilber quickly stepped forward to stop it. After some effort, the driver agreed to let him in.
Once inside, Wilber got out of the car, thanked the driver profusely, and headed straight for Juliet's house.
The driver in the car was Hill; she picked up her phone and sent a text message: [I've brought Wilber in.]
Luann replied instantly: [Got it, thanks. I'll treat you to dinner sometime.]
Hill: [Mission accomplished. I'm heading back. Joshua is still waiting for me.]
Luann: [Okay.]
Wilber arrived at Juliet's door and immediately took out his key, but it didn't work. The fingerprint scanner was useless too.
"What the hell is going on?" Wilber frantically pulled at his hair. Everything felt off.
After a series of painful and frantic kicks, Wilber sat wearily on the ground in the corner of the villa. Darkness enveloped him. If others didn't look closely, they wouldn't even notice he was there.
He didn't know how much time had passed when a car stopped in front of the villa.
Wilber snapped back to reality, moved slightly in the dark, and was about to confront Juliet when he clearly saw, through the car's still-on lights, her passionately kissing a man.
Wilber was completely stunned.
