Chapter 206 Redemption

Wilber was at a loss for words.

For a moment, he felt that Juliet had a point.

“Wilber, you came to see me today because my sister told you something, right? Maybe you think I'm a vile woman now. If I hadn't been here, you and my sister would have married and lived happily together.

“I'm sorry, Wilber...

“Besides those three words, I don't know what else I can say to make up for everything I've done. If there is an afterlife, I hope the first person you meet is me, not my sister.”

Her words of desperate resolve made Wilber 's heart skip a beat.

Before he could react, Juliet Weaver suddenly grabbed a fruit knife from the table and slashed fiercely at her wrist!

Wilber’s pupils dilated with shock as his voice cracked. “What are you doing?!”

Instinctively, he grabbed Juliet’s hand to stop her.

The knife dropped onto the tiled floor, with a clang, ringing sharply.

A shallow cut on Juliet Weaver’s wrist began to bead with blood.

“Juliet, have you lost your mind?!”

Wilber could hardly believe that Juliet would do something so foolish!

“Wilber, I just want to atone for my sins. Don't stop me...”

Juliet bent down to pick up the knife.

Wilber gripped her shoulder tightly, refusing to let her move.

His angry voice exploded in her ear.

“Atone for what? What do you have to atone for? It’s clear both of us were in the wrong! It wasn’t just you involved in this. Why should you be the one to bear it all?

“What good does dying do? Does death settle everything? Sure, you die, and you're free of burden, but what about those of us who care about you?”

Juliet looked at him bewildered, her chest heaving with distress.

“Is there still someone who cares about me? Didn’t you stop coming to see me a long time ago?”

Wilber paused. “I...”

Juliet's eyes grew resolute as she wrapped her arms around Wilber's neck and kissed him fiercely.

Wilber leaned back, trying to dodge her advances. "Juliet, what are you doing?"

Before he could finish, Juliet's kiss became even more intense.

She pushed him down onto the couch, her small hands sliding down to unbuckle his belt.

Moans filled the living room, stirring the imagination.

Wilber's eyes fluttered open.

The room was pitch black.

He gazed at the woman beside him with a complicated look, then got out of bed somberly and walked to the window, lighting a cigarette.

What had he done?

He had come to confront Juliet Weaver, but how had he slept with her?

Wilber took a few harsh drags of the cigarette, causing discomfort in his chest.

Footsteps approached from behind. A pair of tender arms encircled him from the back.

Juliet's face rested against his spine.

"Wilber, I know what you're thinking. Let's pretend today never happened, okay?"

His eyes were a mix of emotions. "Yeah."

Pretend it never happened. It would better for both of us.

"I should... go then. Bye, Wilber."

As Wilber stepped out the door, he glanced back.

Juliet was standing barefoot by the window, smiling at him.

Wilber clenched his teeth and left.

As Juliet watched his car drive away, her expression gradually turned somber.

Her phone rang. It was James.

"There's a big client tonight. Play your cards right, and you could land a supporting role. You in?"

Juliet was silent for a moment. "James, what do you mean 'play your cards right’?"

James chuckled, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

"You know what I mean. There’s no need to spell it out."

Juliet simply responded and went to take a shower, then changed into a beautiful outfit.

This was no longer a matter of concern for her.

After all, she had been with many men before meeting Wilber.

And now she could get paid and use it against Luann.

Why not?

Meanwhile, Luann was in a fierce chess game with Myron.

They were well-matched, and every move was lethal. Neither of them wanted to give in to the other.

Myron gazed at the innocently beautiful face before him and asked casually, "So, is that all there is to the Wilber Gilbert situation?"

"It depends on what Juliet does next," said Luann with a smirk, capturing Myron's knight with her chess piece.

His lips curled into a faint smile as he retaliated without apology, taking one of Luann's pieces in return.

"It was clever of you to incite a feud between the two families."

He had made the Gilberts loathe the Weaver family merely through words.

The seeds he had planted would someday take root and grow.

Luann nodded in agreement. Taking down both families with the Curtis family's power, or even her own, was as easy as lifting a finger.

But what fun would it be to swallow them whole right away? Watching them squirm in the palm of her hand was far more entertaining.

Even if they united against her, to Luann, they were nothing more than ants trying to shake a mighty oak tree.

Prey, after all, is far more amusing when you crush it slowly, watching its agonized struggle.

"Checkmate!"

Startled back to reality, Luann raised her eyebrows in surprise as she surveyed the chessboard.

"Alright, you win," she conceded.

Myron's clear, deep-set eyes glinted with a cunning spark. "What's my prize?"

Luann's smile was coy, and her eyes danced. "What kind of prize would you like?"

Suddenly, Myron tackled Luann to the ground. The chessboard scattered, pieces rolling across the room and tumbling far away.

A husky, magnetic voice rose slowly. "Can I have this as my reward?"

Luann tilted her head slightly, delivering an incredibly gentle kiss to the corner of his lips.

That kiss ignited all of Myron's passion.

There was no turning back.

Myron grasped Luann's delicate wrists and drew them above her head.

Click—

The crisp sound echoed in the air.

"Huh?" Luann opened her eyes, bewildered.

The furry handcuffs looped around her wrists made her face flush crimson.

"Myron Curtis!"

"You're so naughty!"

To think the man who always seemed so upright had a side like this...

Myron's handsome face brimmed with affection, his long lashes touching with emotion as they lowered.

"Be a good girl," he whispered. "Let your husband take care of you."

He reached for the sleep mask Luann used for her midday naps and gently placed it over her eyes, covering those beautiful orbs.

Darkness fell upon her in an instant.

It was as if she was lying on an ocean's surface, waves surging one after another, unable to find calm.

The night stretched out, so very long.
