Chapter 221 Entrusted by His Wife
As soon as the words were out, Myron Curtis strolled in.
Joseph and Mrs. Nash immediately greeted him cheerfully.
"Myron Curtis, what brings you here at this hour?" Joseph asked.
"Just came to see Eddy, nothing much," Myron replied, casting a meaningful glance at Eddy.
Eddy awkwardly touched his nose.
"Take a seat. Good timing. The young lady from the White family is here too. Let's get some minor matters out of the way," Joseph said.
"Sure," Myron agreed.
Amanda was ushered in, greeting everyone with impeccable manners that showed her breeding.
Joseph liked Amanda, a promising young member of the extended family.
It was just unfortunate that his son had already found a girlfriend.
"I hope I'm not intruding," Amanda said with a gentle smile.
"Not at all," they assured her.
Amanda's late visit was surely Jenny's idea.
"Please, have a seat."
Amanda picked up her coffee and took a delicate sip, the fragrance mingling with a subtle bitterness on her lips and teeth.
Her gaze lifted to meet Eddy's. "Eddy left in such a hurry today; I still had things I wanted to say to him."
Once upon a time, a beauty like Amanda could easily catch Eddy's attention. But now, his mind and eyes were solely for Holly Weiss.
"Didn't we cover everything this afternoon when we met?" Eddy asked.
"I thought Amanda wasn't the type to cling to things," he said, a note of displeasure in his voice.
Amanda smiled faintly as if she hadn't detected the discontent in Eddy's words. "I don't like to cling to things, but Mr. Nash personally came to my place, the White family residence."
"Even if you already have a girlfriend and plan to settle this matter, shouldn't you at least protect my dignity?"
"What if word gets out? People might think I'm unwanted."
Amanda sounded a bit wronged.
Joseph rushed to say, "Amanda, I didn't handle things properly."
"I didn't know the kid was taken; I thought he was still single, so I approached your father."
"It's all my fault," he admitted.
Amanda shook her head gently, "It's okay, it's not a big deal."
"Besides, do you really think of me as someone unreasonable?"
Joseph waved his hand dismissively, "No, of course not."
Amanda was known for her considerate and gentle nature, a fact well acknowledged by the major families.
If Amanda was being unreasonable, then who in this world could be considered rational?
"This misunderstanding with Eddy, I know it's a mistake."
"But I still need you to visit my father in person and explain things to him."
Joseph nodded, "Absolutely."
"As for Holly, if there's true love between her and Eddy, I naturally won't object," Amanda spoke softly, pulling a smartphone from her pocket. "I'd like you to listen to a recording."
"I'm leaving Eddy."
"I'm not leaving Eddy."
"Eddy is the only son of the Nash family; sooner or later, everything will be his."
"And what's his will be mine."
The short dialogue silenced everyone in the room.
Holly Weiss's arrogant and haughty voice filled the space, causing Joseph's face to darken.
This woman... Wasn't she obviously after the money?
Was she eying the Nash family fortune even before marrying into the family?
Eddy and Myron Curtis, who knew Holly, understood she wouldn't mean such things; she likely said it in a fit to irritate Amanda.
"Eddy, this is the girlfriend you chose?!" Joseph barked angrily.
Eddy's brow furrowed, ready to explain.
"I absolutely won't allow such a gold-digging woman through the doors of our Nash family!"
"Dad!"
Amanda sat poised, her expression unreadable, a faint smile playing on her lips as if she considered herself above the unfolding drama.
Myron Curtis cast a cold glance at her before speaking up, "Why on earth would Amanda need to test someone with money?"
Gently twisting a stray lock of hair, Amanda's voice remained steady.
"Regarding this matter, it's true that I was in the wrong first."
"I admit it."
"But I did it because I know too well that the women in Eddy's life never last long—all of them drawn by money."
"That fact is clear to everyone, even if left unsaid."
"I thought Holly was the same, so I tried to send her away with money."
Joseph’s respect for Amanda grew..
"Amanda isn't wrong—if a woman can't even withstand this simple test to enter our Nash family..."
Myron Curtis interjected with a cool detachment, "So, you believe that this Holly is a gold-digger?"
Joseph arched an eyebrow, "What else?"
Myron Curtis's lips curled slightly.
If not for his wife entrusting him with this task and the fact that Holly Weiss was her best friend, he wouldn't have bothered himself with these matters.
For him, power was the best way to silence a person.
"Do you think your son is a fool?"
"Or do you think Holly is the fool?"
Frustrated, Eddy retorted, "If you're going to help me, why insult me?"
Puzzled, Joseph asked, "What do you mean by that?"
"Your son changes women like clothes. Does he not know if they're after his money?"
"If Holly lacked confidence in their relationship, she would have taken the twenty million and run."
"Not risked it all on the chance of m arrying into the Nash family."
Joseph fell silent.
Myron Curtis's words struck a chord.
Amanda offered a slow smile, "Does Mr. Curtis speak for Holly because she's your wife’s friend?"
Myron Curtis looked at her with an impassive stare.
"What if I do?"
Amanda cast her eyes downward.
"Everyone knows."
"Mr. Curtis, you've always been one to help your own, even if they're in the wrong."
His brows furrowed, the atmosphere grew heavy.
Yet Amanda seemed unafraid, sitting calmly, exuding a gentle and unassertive air.
But no one knew that within the palm of her hands, a thin layer of sweat had formed.
Suddenly...
Myron Curtis's presence seemed to fade away as he leaned back against the couch.
"Does anyone else know about Amanda's years-long crush on Eddy?" There was a moment of stunned silence among the Nash family members. Even Amanda, always gentle and composed, couldn't hide a flicker of surprise that quickly crossed her eyes before she masked it. "Mr. Curtis, I'm not sure what you're talking about," she said, feigning confusion. Myron Curtis's smile grew, carrying a hint of chill, leaving Amanda puzzled. How had he learned her long-guarded secret?!
