Chapter 401 Shocking Gossip

Mike couldn't even lift his hand. His eyes were glued to the food in front of the caregiver. There were big ol' drumsticks and fish.

But the caregiver snapped, "What're you staring at? Eat your porridge."

Mike mumbled, "I... I want... want some meat, too."

"You can't even get outta bed. If you eat meat, you'll need to hit the bathroom. No meat for you." The caregiver grabbed a big drumstick and took a huge bite.

Mike was practically drooling with envy.

The caregiver scarfed down all the food, burped, and noticed Mike hadn't touched his porridge. "Seriously? It's been five days, and you still can't lift your arm? The doc said you broke your leg, not your arm."

With a sigh, the caregiver picked up a spoon and shoved it into Mike's mouth.

The porridge was gone in no time, but it didn't fill him up. Less than two hours later, Mike was hungry again. "Hungry."

"All you do is eat. I spend all day getting food for you." The caregiver rolled his eyes. "Fine, I'll order takeout."

As expected, the caregiver ordered a feast for himself, and Mike still got porridge.

Just as the caregiver finished cleaning up and was about to take out the trash, Juliet walked in. "How's my dad doing?"

The caregiver jumped and quickly put on a smile. "He's doing great, recovering really well."

"Good, make sure you take good care of him," Juliet said slowly.

Mike used all his strength to barely lift his head from the bed. "Juliet."

Juliet frowned and walked over, looking a bit ticked off. There were fresh bruises on her face, like she'd been in a fight.

Juliet lifted her chin slightly, her eyes showing a hint of disdain. "What's going on? After all this time, my dad still can't talk properly?"

"The doc said it needs to be taken slow, at least another week," the caregiver said with a grin.

"Alright then."

"By the way, Ms. Weaver, could you settle the food expenses for the past few days?" The caregiver handed her the bill.

Juliet looked at it and her tone shot up. "Why is it so expensive? Nearly four hundred bucks in six days."

The caregiver sighed. "Patients need extra care. Nowadays, even a bowl of soup outside costs a lot. I've been saving as much as I can, just eating porridge myself and giving him the good stuff."

Juliet pinched her brow in frustration. She hadn't expected Mike to become such a burden.

When Mike heard the caregiver say this, he made a muffled sound in his throat. It seemed like he was denying something. "I didn't..."

All that food was eaten by the caregiver; he hardly got any of the good stuff.

Juliet waved her hand. "Alright, I get it. You can go now. I have something to discuss with my dad. I'll give you the money later."

The caregiver replied, "Okay."

Once the door was closed, Mike prepared to complain. "Juliet, I..."

Juliet grabbed Mike's hand, her face showing some sadness. She ignored his words. "Dad, you don't wanna stay like this forever, do you? Look at how much you've been through. If it weren't for Luann, would you be like this? But she doesn't care at all. How can she get away with everything?"

Mike's eyes were wide open, bloodshot from days of no sleep. If he used to just dislike Luann because she was Shirley's kid, now he was even more wary of her because he knew Luann had found evidence. Although he didn't know why Luann hadn't exposed him yet, he knew she wouldn't show mercy.

"Dad, why don't we take this chance to make a big deal out of it? We can sue her for not paying your medical bills, saying you're seriously ill. If Luann doesn't want this to blow up, she'll be scared. After all, she cares about her reputation. Before I came, I talked to a lawyer. With Luann's current financial situation, she'd have to cover all your medical expenses and support, which would be at least a few million bucks. Dad, what do you think?" Juliet's eyes sparkled. If there wasn't something to gain from Mike, she wouldn't have come all this way. Even Brianna didn't bother with him anymore.

Hearing about money, Mike's mind finally started working. "Alright, you... you handle it."

Juliet grinned. "Then I'll have someone send a lawyer's letter to Luann."

Juliet was clearly prepared. As soon as Mike agreed, she started getting ready. She initially planned to blackmail Luann privately, spreading the word to scare Luann into giving her some hush money. But Luann pretended not to see it.

So Juliet directly tagged her on Facebook: [Although I don't want to use public resources, things have come to this point, and I have to say something. Luann, our father is seriously ill, suffering from cancer and a car accident that left him disabled and bedridden. I've spent all my money on his treatment, hoping you could help, but you've been avoiding it. Now, I have no choice but to sue you, hoping you'll take responsibility for supporting our father!]

Then, Juliet posted some hospital bills and pictures of Mike's current miserable state.

[Shocking gossip! The successful Luann is completely indifferent to her own father?]

[Oh my God, is this the so-called rich people being stingy?]

[So unfilial, such people will be punished.]

[Did Juliet really sue Luann?]

[Fake news! Anyone who knows Luann knows she's a person of great character!]

[Exactly, it's obvious Juliet's just spreading rumors. I just said a few words, and she deleted my comment!]

[The sisters are publicly confronting each other. This is a big drama, waiting for the follow-up!]

[Just wait, there might be a twist (after all, don't jump to conclusions about anything involving Luann)!]
